AC Milan - Milanfan.com _ Matches _ Champions League - Group Stage Day 2 - Zenit - Milan

Posted by: han2503 Oct 2 2012, 02:54 PM

Hoping for a bit of improvement from what we saw on Saturday. Not holding my breath. This is probably the toughest game of the group considering the location and the players our opponents have.

Hoping to see this lineup for the game

Abate--Mexes--Zapata--De Sciglio
Boateng--DJ--Monto
Robinho--Bojan--SES

Posted by: X-Offender Oct 2 2012, 03:14 PM

^ De Sciglio is injured.

Here's TMW line-up for tomorrow:

Abbiati; Abate, Bonera, Mexes, Antonini; Montolivo, De Jong, Nocerino; Boateng, Pazzini, El Shaarawy.

If only Allegri had the balls to play Bojan over Nocerino. If only...

Han my man, you know you have a history of costing us points when you open up match threads .. So if we don't get the 3 points, Im dropping the blame from Allegri and place it on you 96.gif

As for the game, I hope han doesn't jinx it dry.gif tongue.gif

I hope we do good in this one.

Lol, why are you guys pinning the bad results on me??

Kurt opened a couple, mike opened one as well, none of those were wins IIRC.

The point here is, God himself could open the thread and we still wouldn't see an improvement, and I'm not just talking about the result here

We are gonna get such a beating from Zenit. It's gonna be an eye-opener to the management.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Oct 2 2012, 11:45 PM

We gotta win. We really gotta win. Zenit is one of the strongest sides in our group, but fortunately for us they're in a bad moment as well. Let's hope our 'gameplan' finally falls together. Forza Milan.

Probable line-up: (4-2-3-1) Abbiati; Abate, Zapata, Mexes, Antonini; De Jong, Montolivo; Emanuelson, Boateng, El Shaarawy; Bojan.

http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/milan/?action=read&idnet=bWlsYW5uZXdzLml0LTkyNjUw

Finally a pure 4-2-3-1! Let's see how the team will fare.

FORZA MILAN!!!

Posted by: William405 Oct 3 2012, 04:01 PM

Looks good!

Posted by: Danny Oct 3 2012, 04:03 PM

If that is our team, then in theory bar Pato and De Sciglio it's the strongest one we could put out. Let us see if Allegri actually wants to play our best team!

PS: that's exactly the midfield I play in Pro Evo. And defence bar Antonini.

Official:

Abbiati, Abate, Bonera, Zapata, Antonini, Montolivo, De Jong, Urby, Boateng, El Shaarawy, Bojan

Zenit line-up: Malafeev, Anyukov, Hubocan, Lombaerts, Criscito, Fayzulin, Shirokov, Witsel, Bystrov, Kerzhakov, Hulk.

Posted by: KillerMax Oct 3 2012, 04:53 PM

I don't like it. At least play Emanuelson on the left.

Posted by: X-Offender Oct 3 2012, 04:59 PM

Why Bonera over Mexes? You can never be satisfied with this coach. Anyway, the line-up overall looks good. Let's see what we can do.

URBY!!!!!!

URBYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Lucky goal!!

Btw, I hate that he's being played on the right. FFS Allegri, he's not Messi.

Either play him on the left or put Robinho instead of him on the right.

And the fact that he's playing Bonera over Mexes mostly proves my point on Allegri's man-management issues

Posted by: han2503 Oct 3 2012, 05:15 PM

Really like what I'm seeing in terms of our shape and how we're stretching out play.

Hopefully Allegri doesn't decide to mess around with things along the course of the game

Posted by: han2503 Oct 3 2012, 05:21 PM

Finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Allegri can win me back over if he continues in this path after this game. The only problem right now is Urby walking the line on the right without any clear input

There was never much 'concentration' to begin with prior to this game. Our goals came from mostly individual moments. Let's see how this game pans out.

We suffer set pieces tremendously.

It's puzzling, really. And not just tonight. We usually start well, but after the first 10-15 minutes we get lost. Can't blame Allegri on this one. The players need to wake up!

Posted by: Ry4n Oct 3 2012, 05:49 PM

Good game so far but i feel will get a draw if we don't keep the ball more.

Great goal by El Sha !

Posted by: han2503 Oct 3 2012, 05:53 PM

If we had just withstood the pressure and went into the break at 2-0 I would have been confident of a win. Now that goal has recharged the Zenit players. Couldn't have come at a better time for them

Posted by: KillerMax Oct 3 2012, 06:01 PM

I think we withstood pressure very well for long enough. But we have to be able to keep possession to get out of pressure at SOME POINT! Which we didn't do and it inevitably lead to a goal.

Agreed on that bit, the problem is; aside from Monto we do not have anyone who's really calm on the ball so he can spread it around wisely instead of kicking it at someone else just so they can get rid of it.

Yes, you can. Great result, we played some good football at times, which is definitely an improvement from recent games. Though there's still a long way to go.

Posted by: han2503 Oct 3 2012, 06:58 PM

The most important thing to work on at this point is possession. I don't know what Allegri has them doing in training but it definately does not seem like it includes any of that in it!

Posted by: X-Offender Oct 3 2012, 07:01 PM

Despite the mistake in Zenit's second goal, Abbiati was by far MVP. De Jong was pretty good, too. We played an amazing first 15-20 minutes, but then completely fell apart. It's been a recurring trend in this season, along with the awful set pieces positioning. Zenit had plenty of chances, they didn't deserve to lose.

I don't know what to make of our game. I mean, the starting formation was solid, but we just couldn't keep the pace and concentration. And these are all pretty young players we're talking about. Someone must talk to them.

We played some good football in pre-season too. I still think the loss to Madrid caused this disastrous start.

Just saw El Sha's goal, brilliant! I love how just when everyone was beginning to doubt him he turned it around like this. at the same time I miss the days when Pato would score such goals. that said, I hope when he returns he doesn't get in El Sha's way and affect his form (I mean unintentionally, of course).

This game was identical to CSKA-Inter of last season. Inter scored two early goals then, but CSKA equalized, only for Zarate to score the winner for Inter late in the second half. Zenit-Milan, same story.

yeah he was incredible.

I think Bojan was rather selfish in the game taking shots when he could have passed among a few other things i know he wants to show what hes got but assisting counts also.

Posted by: KillerMax Oct 3 2012, 07:34 PM

Yeah Bojan is acting childish and selfish. So many points during the game he had a chance to make a good pass and he tried an unsuccessful dribble or some other move and mostly failed. He seems to have a spoiled attitude. Allegri needs to slap him on the head and let him know that playing for the team counts first!

Posted by: KillerMax Oct 3 2012, 07:40 PM

Two positives from the game:

  1. Allegri finally seems to be gaining some success in forming an identity within this new team, however green and vulnerable it may be, it seems to finally show itself in unison. Now it needs to be stretched out for the whole duration of the game.
  2. El Shaarawy's goal was sublime!

Yep. Like I said, after the first 20 minutes we crumbled apart. Abbiati saved our faces.

Posted by: Ry4n Oct 4 2012, 03:27 AM

Having a trust worthy GK is always a boost for the defense hopefully Zapata and Mexes , Abate step up a bit more...I remember when we had Kalac i mean he had some good spells but sometimes he was a liability and the defenders knew it. Not to **** on Kalac hes a great guy.

Posted by: rip Oct 4 2012, 04:13 AM

Our performance will not improve as long as we are playing this formation. We dont hav a proper trequartista. and Yet Allegri insists on playing Prince there, despite saying that Prince is better as a CM a few weeks back. Personally i would go with 4 3 3 or 4 3 2 1.

----------------De Jong
Nocerino/Prince-----------Montolivo
-----Bojan ---------------SES
---------------Pazzini

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Oct 4 2012, 07:14 AM

I don't know. Zapata is looking good, but every single match he makes a few totally displaced tackles. He's like a world class Kaladze, amazing up to the point when he yanks up everything.

What worries me is that we can't manage to play even a single total good game. We have too black wholes - periods where we simply cease to pressure and enter a mental/physical decline.

Posted by: han2503 Oct 4 2012, 12:53 PM

The point here is CONSISTANCY!!

There was a significant improvement. And I commend Allegri, because of this imrpovement.

However, he will only get my praise if he remains consistant and continues on this path for the following games, because that is the only way that we'll see consistant improvement from this team.

So if he screws around with the formation and the players that played well in the position that was assigned to them, then I'll know for sure that he does not know what the f*** he's doing atm and has no idea of how to mange this team

Posted by: Danny Oct 4 2012, 01:52 PM

First 20 minutes was the finest we've played all season. We were excellent and dominated the middle, and made chances. The best midfield we have was doing its thing. First goal was fortunate, second was inspirational from SES but the defending was dire. But we were playing like the home team.

Problem was in literally the blink of an eye Zenit took control. From the moment Abbiati made his first big save Zenit were all over us and it remained that way till full time - yet we got the winner and they did not.

If we can just keep the first 20 minutes going, and not cave when the opposition come back at us, this team has a little chance this season. Allegri picked a good team and frankly it worked. But Mexes' defending for the second was horrible.

It was a definite sign of progress and I credit the manager and players equally. But the one criticism on the night in terms of our personnel was that Prince's form continues to be poor.

First 20 minutes was the finest we've played all season. We were excellent and dominated the middle, and made chances. The best midfield we have was doing its thing. First goal was fortunate, second was inspirational from SES but the defending was dire. But we were playing like the home team.

Mexes wasn't playing...

I think it was Montolivo who was (for some reason) marking the scorer

Now we're criticizing Mexes even when he's not playing. Brilliant. tongue.gif

Montolivo and Zapata, yes. sleep.gif Pretty horrendous defending for the 2nd goal, agreed.

Sorry, yes, Monto, not Mexes. It was someone with long hair biggrin.gif

I think it was because Abbiati first came out and then they sort of both hesitated and back-tracked, thus him being completely unmarked and Abbiati in no man's land.

I just don't get why Monto was marking him to begin with

That's what I thought, too.

Abbiati has done that once this season can't remember against who but hopefully when a consistent defensive line up everyone gets more attuned with each other...

The point here is CONSISTANCY!!

There was a significant improvement. And I commend Allegri, because of this imrpovement.

However, he will only get my praise if he remains consistant and continues on this path for the following games, because that is the only way that we'll see consistant improvement from this team.

The Inter derby is crucial. If we lose this one, all improvement talk is down the toilet - we'd lose the last bit of self-security.

Well...yeah..we'd be more like back to square 1.
