You'd have Dida, Abbiati and Lloris in the ranks. That's about 10-12 million in wages, and another 5 million just for the transfer fees.

Gone are the days when 10 million was pocket change.

I can't see how Abbiati not moving would mean we can't sign Lloris. Surely we weren't going to use that many to finance the move, I'm sure we could find £5m from somewhere!

Exactly my thoughts.

I pretty sure if Dida or Abbiati were assured that they weren't going to be getting regular playing time, one would have realized their better option would be to move clubs.

Yep

I also still stubbornly believe that we could have kept Gourcuff, if only we assured him of regular playing time, and told him that Ancelotti (the bane of his existence) and Kaka (only person who could keep him out of the squad) were leaving. Galliani at least must have known the last two points (worst kept secret in Milano at the time) and its astonishing that he still couldnt persuade him, especially considering the great season he had.

His negotiation skills have been off for a while though e.g. Zambrotta for £8m

Galliani already spoke on it recently. Everything was done, including a deal with the player and his agent. But Abbiati's refusal to move to Palermo screwed that deal up.

Funny, he had no problem going to a zillion other clubs before coming back here.

Strangely enough, in 2004, he chewed out Carlo on his website for the latter supposedly blocking a move that would've sent Abi to Palermo. Go figure.

Not happening, because Milan are bringing Storari back for next season (against his wishes, I might add). Guess we won't learn.

Sel them all and get Viviano, Sirigu or Curci (we must sedate Zamparini for this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

Nope, Galliani confirmed "100%" that he was coming back next season, even though Storari was seeking a long-term stay over at Samp.

I think I'm beginning to remember something of this sort now that you remembered it, and I remember being very upset that we would keep the looser! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Yes he did. I think Palermo were possibly offering lower wages.

My comment was mostly about why we couldn't get Lloris that particular season. And now that he's at Lyon (a CL club) which has actually gone further in the competition than us, it'll cost us thrice as much as it did then to land him. Lloris is pretty much a closed chapter.

Storari?? As what? First choice? Second choice? Say Dida is going away..even then... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Storari is not a top GK. Neither are our other two most prominent options. I will not even consider Roma.
And I think they are all pretty inconsistent. I hope that all but one follows Kalac (out of our club) and the surviving one stays on as back up to a new (either top - already established or promising) keeper.
