still in disbelief

england (as stupid as it is) at least lost a country that could possibly do a good job of hosting the world cup.

we lost to Qatar....Qa freaking tar. they had a chance of creating a fan base that would dwarf all other fan bases around the world. but they chose not to. chose to take the money and run instead.

just stupid. absolutely stupid.

the little faith i had in FIFA has been kicked square in the nuts.

thanks Blatter...i hate you

I'm definitely becoming an Israel for for the 2022 qualifying, would love to see them qualify for Qatar.

Guys Don't be so selfish...This country is closer to my counter so their is hope that I go to the world cup by then.It will be great(I'm from Lebanon).Although,I would have preferred going to England but that would have been more expensive,I think.

And there we have a voice of reason!

Its the same as this year, its the same as 94 in US, and Korea, they are trying to bring even more countries into the football world by putting it on their doorstep.

Russia, as a host, has the potential to be a total nightmare, but also has the potential to be fantastic and i believe it is a very brave decision by FIFA. Qatar, as people have stated, the environment (heat) could be a major issue for some teams but we have had the same before with high altitudes etc, so its up to NT's to prepare in the proper way, just as it is the same for teams used to high temps/high altitudes to come and play in cold and low lying countries so those arguments should cease.

As for people that posted WC 2010 was a failure??? Why, tell me why it failed. I really enjoyed watching what games i could, especially the SF NT, yes the vuvuzela's were annoying but there was a lot of good football to watch and i really enjoyed it, as i did the last one and the one before that. But then i didnt watch the england games as i like to watch football (IMG:style_emoticons/default/devilsmiley.gif)

Yes taking a competition to a place that has never qualified for the tournament, sounds so reasonable. They want to make new friends and take the game to new places go take it to Iran (who have qualified), or N.Korea or a really poor nation, would they? No chance, why? No money.

As far as I'm aware no-one would really do harm to themselves coming to our country our European countries (where it isn't even cold in the summer) not the same as potentially getting heat exhaustion, heat strokes etc.

No disrespect to South Africa but they clearly didn't have a clue what was going on. The 'supporters' just blew those damn things all match long and danced about, they weren't interested in football, to be fair they probably got the tickets for free. FIFA couldn't even sell out stadiums by giving the tickets away over there. The quality of the football overall in general compared to previous tournaments was terrible, bar perhaps Germany and a few of the Argentina games but I don't think you can blame that on them too much.

It's not about being selfish. I would not even be able to watch 75% of the WC if it was in Oz, but I still wanted it there.

If you want to know why South Africa failed, your more than welcome to talk to a mate of mine, he missed 2 games that he paid for because the transport in the country is nothing short of a joke - Russia will have the same issue.

The heat really is a big factor for Qatar. The naivity of the bid is embarassing. Who gives a **** about air conditioned stadiums? Is that where everyone is going to be all day, every day? The country is simple too hot for regular people.

South Africa had very few people come into the country for the WC, it was a disaster, Qatar will do even worse. Because neither nations fans will pay to see lesser teams, SA proved that. At least the US would sell out pretty much every game despite their huge stadiums.

Sour grapes there my friend. The "They want to make new friends..." Comment is just ridiculous, it does not matter if the country has qualified or not, if they can host the WC and that that country doing so will open the football world to even more countries then it is a good thing IMO!

You say no disrespect to South Africa and then you go and disrespect the people that live there, and to be fair at least the vuvuzela's drowned out the utterly biased english commentators, who we in the UK have forced down our throats every major competition that there is. And make no doubt that those same biased commentators will mention 1966 within the first minute of every single england international game that is televised, even friendlies. And CL games as well. These commentators who have no knowledge of players outside of the overrated EPL should not even be employed in television. Or at least not in programs broadcast to the entire UK!

What are you on about? How can it be sour grapes. Obviously I'm dissapointed that England didn't get it but I've wished Russia good luck the whole way through the thread, including immediately after the draw (check it out if you want). You do actually realise that Qatar won the World Cup 2022, not 2018? You do know this right? And you do know that England didn't actually bid for this event. So how is it sour grapes, please tell me? As for the they want to make new friends bit, that was what Mr Blatter said right at the end of the draw, I'll try to find a video or something. That's the main reason Russia & Qatar got it so how is that 'ridiculous'?

You do also realise that the majority of the footballing world (apart from Qatar) are actually bemused by this decision, above the Americans and in particular the Aussies. Therefore it's not just English 'Sour Grapes'.

I disrespected the people who lived there, by saying they don't follow football in a somewhat normal way?! That's what they did, I didn't make anything up, that's what happened, that's not disrespecting people!

I agree some of our commentators are a little narrow in their knowledge, especially when it comes to Italian Football and in particular ITV, but that happens all over the world.

From all the candidates that were up for 2022 you can not tell me that it would've been more successful anywhere other than the US. Personally, I don't think any country could put together a more successful World Cup than the US. 1994 still having the largest attendance ever is proof enough (with a smaller group of countries participating).

The difference between a US World Cup and a Qatar World Cup is mind blowing. It's not even close. FIFA are idiots, plain and simple.

There is no question that up until this morning the US and England were by far the front runners. It wasn't even close. Something happened to change that. And that's why I've lost faith in the entire system. They're doing everything in their power to kill one of the great competitions in the world.

You needn't have bothered responding to it, Ash, but you did a good job in practically rubbishing his entire post. Had his post had any relevance at all, then fine, but he just comes accross as your stereotypical xenophobic sweaty with an inferiority complex.

Anyone that thinks Qatar would have done a better job than the US is mad. The negatives for the US are the size and te fact they've had it before. Both of these are somewhat redundant though as multiple countries have had the WC twice, so why not the US? The size factor is reduced as in the 1994 World Cup they regionalised the grops so the distance needed to travel wasn't much.

Can anybody give me any good reasons why Qatar should have beaten out the US? The fact they've never had it before means nothing, hundreds of other countres haven't.

It's a joke. Oh well, I'm busy summer 2022 anyway.

There are 0 reasons. And the travel thing is bogus...if our infrastructure worked in 1994, it would easily still work now with a much improved system.

Don't mind them, it will be an amazing experience to have a World Cup in the Middle East. I am looking forward to it as well and hope to be there to experience my first ever World Cup (IMG:style_emoticons/default/king.gif)

Exactly.

To be honest guys, you say it's all about money, but if it weren't, you could do the friggin' thing in a single city. You just need two stadia and a few balls. It's football, not rocket science.

The US world cup would have gotten bigger attendances, yes, but the Qatar world cup will give a chance to thousands of people of witnessing a world cup... And that's worth it. And while I didn't mean that in a financial sense, it makes lots of sense financially as well.

Cheers to Russia and Qatar!
