I'd like to see him come off the bench against Genoa... he should know them pretty well.

Borriello: Everything but the goal

QUOTE
Marco Borriello is pleased with the way he is playing for Milan, even though he is yet to open his Serie A account this season.

A revelatory 2007-08 campaign with Genoa earned Borriello the call to San Siro but his start to the season was delayed by injury.

The talented hitman was a crucial figure in yesterday's 4-1 rout of Lazio and was happy with the way he played, albeit without finding the net.

“The adrenaline has been pumping and I'm really happy,” Borriello grinned.

“I was delighted with my performance but the only thing that was missing was a goal. My teammates helped me and were always there to link up.

“It feels really good to be here at Milan. I feel important here and it's a unique sensation.

“The fans were also important - I can feel that they are close to me and they always give me a boost.

“I hope that I'll be able to make them cheer by scoring some goals in the future.”

Blog: Goalless hero

QUOTE
Marco Borriello didn’t get his name on the scoresheet, but Giancarlo Rinaldi insists he was the key man in Milan’s 4-1 win over Lazio

(IMG:http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/blogs/borriellogr460.jpg)

Some people seem to have missed a vital point about Milan’s Sunday night triumph over Lazio. Dazzling goals from the likes of Pato and Kaka appear to have blinded them to a star performance. He may not have found the net, but Marco Borriello was absolutely key to the victory.

The former Genoa man has given the Rossoneri something that they lacked. He is both a target man and a willing worker – something which Carlo Ancelotti has not had at his disposal for an eternity. It was thanks to his efforts that a lot of gaps opened up for the 'flair players' in the Milanese ranks.

If he can maintain this form it would be a real redemption story for the boy in red and black. Throughout his early 20s the club never had any faith in him and sent him out on loan across the country where he failed to prove the doubters wrong. Then, in 2006, he failed a drugs test and was later moved on to Genoa.

Bizarrely, it seems to have been the making of him. He has come back a more determined player – perhaps realising the gift he had risked throwing away. His time with the Rossoblu pushed him back into Italy contention and that should continue if he keeps playing for Milan in such barnstorming fashion.

It would be ironic indeed if he was to eclipse the likes of Ronaldinho and Andriy Shevchenko in the weeks ahead. Of course, it is early days but the signs were encouraging. Big Marco was willing to fight for every ball and allowed a new route of attack for the Rossonero midfielders. His attitude, compared to some of the big earners, was very refreshing indeed.

Nobody should be getting too carried away since one victory over Lazio will not turn around Milan’s season on its own. However, if Borriello could turn out to be a 20-goal man this season at San Siro it would raise his credibility considerably. At the moment, he is just another one of those strikers who has flourished in the provinces. By moving to Lombardy, the stakes are a lot higher, but he could well find himself picking up a few major trophies in the years to come.

Big time! We have been missing a player with his characteristics for years... It's so refreshing to have a player upfront who will not go down with ever challenge and who is not a cry baby. Forza Borriello!

So it seems that Marco has broken up with his girlfriend Belen Rodriguez. Belen was on a reality show (Isola dei Famosi) for 10 weeks, during which time she had a 'flirtation' with one of the guys on the island. She's back in Milan now and is living in the flat she and Marco used to share. Marco, it seems, is now living in a new flat a couple of blocks away.

I saw the news of their breakup and Belen's flirting with that guy on Canale 5 the other day (it was a ~15 minute special!), I was wondering what was that all about.

I have to admit, Belen is so HOT! I feel for Borriello...
