Juventus F.C. vs AC Milan

Serie A 2007/08 - Week 33

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Stadio Olimpico di Torino

Time : 19.30 (UK); 20:30 (IT)

Super difficult game but with our situation we cannot lose points anymore. We should build on Cagliari game and make last decisive run in the league.

Posted by: Darunia Apr 6 2008, 04:26 AM

No defenders for this game =/

Kalac
Cafu Bonera Maldini Favalli
Gattuso Pirlo Seedorf
Kaka
Inzaghi Pato

Although I wouldn't be surprised if Carlo used x-mas tree with Pato the lone striker, although Inzaghi's brace may have earned him a starting spot. If Favalli can't make it then Simic starts in the middle and Bonera will probably be moved onto the left.

Posted by: Habitant Apr 6 2008, 04:32 AM

yep i really do despise the zebras, lets beat em!

Posted by: kurtsimonw Apr 6 2008, 05:28 AM

We haven't got a reliable keeper, we've barely got any defenders. I see nothing but a Juve win to be honest. 2-0.

Posted by: Devillito Apr 6 2008, 06:40 AM

The team knew more than anyone else that we need a victory.
There is no margin for error.
Just take a few leaps of faith mate!!

Prediction: 1(Milan) - 0(Juventus)

If Klinsman or Wenger would be our coach, Kalac would probably be on the bench against Juve, and Dida will get his chance.

I'm trying to be optimistic, but I just can't... Juve win.

Posted by: han2503 Apr 6 2008, 11:50 AM

Our defence will probably prove to be the reason why we won't take full points from this one. Especially since we barely even have one left...

It will probably look something like this

Cafu--Simic--Maldini--Banera

Cafu was hardly impressive yesterday but he is the only choice unless Carlo is will to play Brocchi there, which imo would be better then Cafu, he is fast, can cross and marginally good defensively. Atleast I would be more at rest with him there instead of the Cafu we saw yesterday

I would really like to see Bonera in the center again, but at the moment we have no choice, Maldini would be better suited playing next to Simic since Bonera and Simic are too much alike and have never really impressed when playing together.

And I don't think Maldini can handle a full game against Juve playing as a LB, especially since he will most likely have to play a full 90 minutes since we have no other subs for the defence

Posted by: redbabies Apr 6 2008, 12:00 PM

^^^
I hope Simic plays too, but I doubt it!

Posted by: gal_kenny Apr 6 2008, 02:19 PM

is nesta available for this game?

Posted by: Tennie Apr 6 2008, 02:26 PM

No, Nesta's suspended for the game. He picked up a 2-game ban last weekend unfortunately. The defense is going to be...a little scary for this one.

Posted by: maldini03 Apr 6 2008, 06:02 PM

Maybe our savior Digao will play.
We are very lucky to have him.......

tongue.gif
Juve is tricky they give up a sillygame to Reggina but peform against the big teams. We do have a good setup with Seedorf Pirlo and Kaka in the midfield with a quick Pato up front or a sly Inzaghi.

If we play like we need the 3 points which we do and we play do or die i think we can play the Seedorf card because they will have to play Sissoko on Kaka and Camoranesi on Pirlo Seedorf should be freed up to get the ball to Pato who will easily be able to take the Juve defense. Its the monster they have for a keeper im worried about.

If we put all of the pressure on them and their defense they should crack alowing us to attack quickly. No silly mistakes at the back and an on form Kaka we could win 1-0 or 2-0.

Without the cards going our way they could easily win 2-0 dry.gif

I'm sure Pato would be honored to beat the best 'keeper in the world. cool.gif

As for this game, if we want a win we must attack... constantly. considering our defense situation we cannot sit back and defend at all. so no silly Christmas tree for this one, Carlo...

Yes, we have to put all of the pressure on the Juve defense because lets face it they are poor and have no skill when it comes to players like Pato who can run at them. Chellini and Legrotalie IMO arent skilled at all they use brute forse and tricky fouls to stop attackers. We also need to have Seedorf ready to play because Kaka wont get an inch and Pirlo will not be allowed to move.

Zanetti's hurt - got hurt in the Genoa game and hasn't played since then (early March). According to the Juve website, he's still not training with the team.

No news on Nedved yet.

There's talk that Milan may appeal Nesta's 2-game ban and try to get it reduced to 1 game so that he'll be available for this one.

Wouldn't hold my breath, though.

Posted by: kurtsimonw Apr 7 2008, 04:06 PM

I hope the Italian FA anything like the English one then. If you make an appeal without any good reason, they extend the ban. And I don't really think we have valid ground to make an appeal if I'm honest.

(from acmilan.com's italian page)

Today's training:
Pato, Janku, Favalli, and Emerson worked in the gym. The rest of the team - including Rino and Sergio - did the regular training, including ball possession drills and an 11x11 practice game.

Posted by: Darunia Apr 7 2008, 04:48 PM

Sergio is back.. finally. We may need him if all our other LBs are out.

Posted by: m1ke Apr 7 2008, 04:55 PM

Does anyone know what happened to Pato?

Posted by: Tennie Apr 7 2008, 04:58 PM

I think it's a thigh strain, Mike.

Posted by: m1ke Apr 7 2008, 05:17 PM

Ouch, a thigh strain? That's pretty bad - even a small one usually causes you to be out for around 3 weeks.

Posted by: kizo Apr 7 2008, 07:00 PM

There is chance that Nesta plays this game, the decision will be made Friday

"Will Nesta play? It will be discussed on Friday at noon, we hope to have him against Juventus." Galliani

so he isn't banned for two matches. he is injured.

Posted by: dst Apr 7 2008, 07:03 PM

I'm expecting a Bonera - Simic - God - Favalli defence line-up. Or maybe Bonera in the center as he's played more matches than the Croat.

Agreed. I'm usually a decently optimistic person, but even I'm not too sure we'll be seeing Dida anytime soon, what with only a handful of matches left till the end of the season. Oh well, that's the way with Carlo, I reckon. dry.gif

Kalac is back to his usual self (7-8 goals in last five matches), and while everyone here appreciates what he's done these last couple of months, he seems to have gotten out of his purple patch. Confident, yes. Dependable, maybe. But he's not quite the keeper he was at the start of the year. Still, I hope he puts in a great performance this Sunday.

After all the pieces fall to place, I'd very much hate Dida's last match in Milan be Inter, December 2007. sad.gif

MILAN - Pavel Nedved talked about his conditions after leaving the hospital at Palermo, where he had been recovered after clashing heads with Guana yesterday: "I feel better today, better than yesterday. I was in the hospital, but everything's OK - the Czech player said - sometimes my head still spins. I was a bit scared."

"Galliani also said that a decision over whether Alessandro Nesta will play against Juve will be made on Friday at noon. The defender is struggling with injury.

"Will Nesta play? It will be discussed on Friday at noon, we hope to have him against Juventus."

I think goal.com is wrong, it's bout Nesta getting his suspension dropped to 1 game instead of 2, not injury.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Apr 8 2008, 09:57 AM

So now we all turn against Kalac? Hmh,..

Don't wanna harp you with that but,..I told 'y so..Kalac is sometimes good, but he makes mistakes that show he isn't a whole season keeper and first team player. Dida should now get his chance and stay with us at the end. If we wanna sell someone it should be Kalac, now that he is worth something (even after that Cagliari goal). We should also install Coppola as 3rd and this should be it!

Now for the game...anyone knows the score Carlo has against Juve and Ranieri?

Juve is the same ol' Juve some years ago, I mean the same style and mentality, but not that quality players. Iaquinta IMO will be the biggest problem, I hope he don't starts.

We just have to win this one and play with the same mentality as against Cagliari.

Double training session for Milan today. The morning session has taken place; it was all individualized work. Afternoon training will take place in...just over 90 minutes from when I'm posting.

The Zebras have an afternoon training session today, at which the conditions of Pavel Nedved and Cristiano Zanetti will be evaluated.

EDIT: Nedved's had another CAT-scan and has been examined by a neurosurgeon. He's been passed fit to resume activity and will train with the Zebras tomorrow (Wednesday). [from the zebra website]

It's a shame this game falls when it does - it could have been a great physiological boost to gain some points on Fio if we had an easier fixture. Although saying that, not many fixtures have been 'easy' this term.

You've got to admire Juve in the way that they've bounced back from last year. I still don't consider their squad to be the 3rd best in Serie A though, which I guess is a compliment to how well they've done this season. I know we can win this game if we play like we know Milan can, but I've no idea which Milan is going to turn up.

It'll leave a bitter taste if Inter beat Fio and we fail to capitalise on it.

Posted by: dst Apr 8 2008, 03:46 PM

Imagine if we beat Juventus, Inter and Fiorentina drew and Roma got all 3 points! Now that would be sweet! biggrin.gif

Posted by: m1ke Apr 8 2008, 03:54 PM

^^ I'd still consider that a bad result for us! Inter have to beat Fio - I don't think we're in a position to cheer on Inter's rivals when we're 4 points away from a CL spot with 6 games to play unsure.gif

Even if Inter win, Fiorentina will have to fall again in the following games... it makes no big difference. What matters is that we win all games left if possible so that we take advantage of any occasional slip-up of theirs or pray that they lost points too when and if we do...

Posted by: Tennie Apr 8 2008, 04:32 PM

Afternoon training has taken place. Rino and Sergio trained with the group. Favster ran sprints - which I take as a sign he may be available if needed. Pirlo and Pato worked in the gym but I'm pretty sure they'll both be available. Janku and Emerson also worked in the gym and probably won't be.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Apr 8 2008, 06:16 PM

It's wierd how sometimes the players we don't count on, turn out to be big trump cards.

This is kinda unrelated...but I remember last season, and we were not going great shakes at all (CL or League) and the board kept saying, We need Ambro back...it's vital...blah blah...and I went Pffffftt...but it turned out to be true.

Now this season, they say Pippo's injury and they seem to be being proved right as well. unsure.gif

I mean in the footballing theory sense (let's not get into the politics of Galliani and co. discussion)...but I wonder is there something about these players we don't know of. For instance, when Carletto says in his interview after 7 long years....that now he knows fully what his players can and cannot do...I think that's a deeper statement than most people give credit for biggrin.gif .

Here for instance is where I think a lot of managers differ. I believe that Capello, Spalleti, Prandell, (now) Carletto, and SAF (I think this is his biggest USP in the EPL) do know this, while others like say...Rijkaard, Schuster, dare i say Mourinho unsure.gif don't.

Wenger is somewhere in between. He knows what his players can do at their best. But he is totally blind to them being at their worst. biggrin.gif

I also believe this is what makes a coach do great things with what seems to be a weak team.

Juve v Milan.....maybe two strikers for this one...we'll look to press them in the beginning and then take a striker off for a DM. Usual tactic. If our players have continued the good work from Cagliari (and not hit a plateau) we might have a chance...

But the Milan team's performance this season, has been as predictable as a roulette wheel. So I'll not make any prophecies.

Posted by: dst Apr 8 2008, 06:36 PM

This is when we found our form last season (game at Bayern...) so I hope it is the same now.

I certainly disagree with the Mourinho part. If there's something this guy does better than anyone else it is bringing the best out of his players.

I don't think he had his players completely. It's one thing to make the guys who like you play for you...but wasn't he kicked out..coz a lot of people didn't like him and I mean players.

Another training note from the land of the Zebras: Del Piero trained separately today.

Actually, his last match was against Napoli back in mid-January, in which he was pretty good.

People tend to forget that a practice injury coupled with Kalac's completely unexpected 15 minutes was what got him benched.

Very true. Everyone kept saying that last season we were amazing in the KOs of the CL, but what everyone keeps forgetting is the fact that we were luckluster against Celtic and the only reason we went through is because of Kaka (who this time was struggling through injury and wasn't in shape) and the fact that we were playing Celtic not Arsenal or any other top team for that matter.

So last season if we had gotten a tough tie like this season we would have probably gone out due to the fact that we only started hitting top form during this time of the season

For what it's worth, here are the probable lineups in today's Gazzetta (they'll probably change in coming days):

ZEBRAS
Buffon 1
Grygera 21
Legrottaglie 33
Chiellini 3
Molinaro 28
Camoranesi 16
Tiago 30
Sissoko 22
Salihamidzic 7
Trezeguet 17
Del Piero 10

MILAN
16 Kalac
2 Cafu
3 Maldini
24 Bonera
27 Serginho
8 Gattuso
21 Pirlo
23 Ambrosini
10 Seedorf

IMO this season has been the lack of a really good Left back to play day in day out like Marek. He was amazing last season , we all know hes had so many long lasting injuries this season. I think this is one of many problems we have had this season, Our fullbacks havent been consistent and somtimes i dont even think i can see them on the pitch, i hope Marek gets well soon! he did get some really good match winners last season and i hope he can do the same in 2008/2009

Yes, any news on Pato?

Posted by: Besfort Apr 10 2008, 02:41 PM

I'm very optimistic for this match. We really have "unmotivated" champions in our squad, that now or never should prove themselfs in such a crucial match, like this one.

I think Kalac time's over. I want Dida between the sticks. I still trust his abilities to make the goal look like a small box for every striker that comes in front of him.
I hope Pato will be okay, and start/score which will be a great chance for him to prove himself that he's a player also for big matches, and scoring against Buffon, will surely make you a World-Class striker.

Our defense without Oddo, Nesta and Kaladze will push me to suicide every time Juventus will be on the attack.
But anyway, Bonera was really good as a right-back last match, and hopefully will make the same thing on Saturday night.

Let's get a 3 pointer and reach that cursed 4'th place.

Forza Milan !!!

Who's at home in the Inter/Fiore game?

Posted by: Tennie Apr 10 2008, 02:58 PM

I'm hopeful for the match. A whole bunch of people trained separately yesterday (including Pato) but I'm not sure there's real cause for worry on that account just yet. Today's training is due to begin any time now.

Camoranesi gave the interview today for the Zebras and - smart boy - he had only nice things to say about Maldini.

The Olimpico (formerly the Communale) in Torino is a really nice stadium. It's a good bit smaller than the San Siro, but the pitch is lovely (or it was 3 weeks ago) and it's a nice atmosphere.

I'd feel an awful lot more comfortable about this match if Nesta were available.

If Palermo can beat Juve we can beat Juve. Although they needed two great goals from Amauri and a wonder strike by Cassani.. Kaka can do the Amauri but that still might not be enough.

GOAL: Who is your all time number one hate figure, or object of amusement, from their lot?
Dino Distefano (Juventus): I don’t really hate anyone from their team. But Dida has been a joke ever since he joined the club. I can’t believe he is still there. I know he won’t play against Juve but he has been ridiculous this season.

and I'm very confident about that.

Milan's appeal for Nesta's suspension rejected...

Posted by: Tennie Apr 11 2008, 01:31 PM

Carletto's given his prematch press conference. (see acmilan.com's italian page)

Highlights include:

* Simic in the centre of defense
* Favster is back
* Pippo in attack

So probably a starting lineup looking something like this:

Kalac
Bonera Simic Maldini Favalli
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini Seedorf
Kaka Pippo

I'm hoping it's played like a 4-4-2 as it was v. Cagliari.

Zebra call ups for the game:

I convocati di Ranieri: Belardi, Birindelli, Buffon, Camoranesi, Chiellini, Del Piero, Grygera, Iaquinta, Legrottaglie, Marchionni, Molinaro, Nocerino, Palladino, Salihamidzic, Sissoko, Stendardo, Tiago, Trezeguet.

No Nedved.

Hmh...Favalli and Kalac. Does two guys trouble me a lot.

I'm not sure if we can evade this fight even with just a blue eye...What we need is Pato and Kaka, and a very concentrated midfield. Hope we'll see Superambro once more, just like Cagliari,..

Posted by: fresh_prince7 Apr 11 2008, 03:13 PM

So is pato in the squad?

We haven't seen kaka' and pato play together at full capacity..

Well RICKY is BACK! Was looking forward to seeing them tear up the juve defence. devil.gif

Been looking forward to this game all week, should be a good match with hopefully the right result.

So we have a bad keeper, no defenders, a tired midfield and no Pato for this game? Apologies if I don't sound too optimistic!

Posted by: mishie Apr 11 2008, 04:19 PM

No Pato but super Pippo in goal scoring form ( i know its only 1 game!) we know we need a win and this game is a big game and we have big game players so i reckon a 1-2 win and we will be level with the Viola after this weekend

Forza Milan!!

For me the most important match will be against the merda.

This one...I want to see Seedorf turn on the magic. But I doubt it. I think it will be a draw. Or a typical Juve last minute smash and grab. sad.gif

Goal.com are predicting a 2-2 draw. That situation helps Juve more than us, but would be disatourous for us if Udine, Doria and Fio win

Posted by: Brian Birkin Apr 11 2008, 08:22 PM

Now is another time to go for a win, I would like 2 players to play up front. I wouldn't be surprised to see a draw in this game but I think and hope we can win.

0-2

2-0 Juventus. It's a very, very poor Milan line-up that will be played.

juve will dominate milan will grind out an undeserved draw 1-1, subsequently destroying our hopes of making the CL. galliani will come out with post-game comments stating that nowadays the uefa cup is more prestigious than the CL and it will be a grand challenge for the red and black.

I wouldn't say no to a 1-1 draw, and franly it might not end our road to CL. Any loss apart from Juve and Inter will be the final straw. If we can manage to draw these two games we have a very outside chance of making the fourth place. dry.gif

Actually, his last match was against Napoli back in mid-January, in which he was pretty good.

People tend to forget that a practice injury coupled with Kalac's completely unexpected 15 minutes was what got him benched.
*

Ha, thanks for the clarification, Miz. And no it's not about being benched, it's whether he'll get a chance to come back that matters. Dida's still better than Kalac (even if by a whisker), and frankly I've become so numb with how our season's progressed, seeing Kalac between the posts until the end of the season doesn't sound as strange as it used to. huh.gif

Kaka out to conquer Juve

“I can see Milan winning in Turin and Inter beating Fiorentina, so on Sunday night we could be just one point away,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The longer the season goes on, the more anxiety builds up. I’d love to score my first away goal against Juventus, but I will not give up even if we don’t manage to close the gap in Turin.”

“I do not consider our season to be so very negative. We can still end up fourth and at the start of the campaign we won two very important trophies in the European Super Cup and Club World Cup.”

Posted by: Tennie Apr 12 2008, 07:17 PM

The key to this game is the midfield, I think. Whichever midfield does best will give their team a huge boost. Nedved not playing is good for Milan, but Milan's defense...well, they have Il Capitano. I remain hopeful.

We are playing finally good football but are still screwing it up because we can't defend if our lives depended on it

- Simic
+ Cafu

or switch Bonera to CB

Juve attack down the right, Del Piero tries to keep it in and Kaladze gives it away to Camaronesi who sends in a first-time cross that catches Milan out AND TREZEGUET WITH THE HEADED GOAL BUT SOMEHOW SAVED BY KALAC and Salihamidzic tucks away the rebound for 2-2! Milan are furious, they're convinced Salihamidzic was offside when Trezeguet made the initial header - and he looked it to me. You have to feel for Kalac as he made a wonderful save.

Y'all blame Maldini but do not mention that Salihamidzic was offside?

Kalac had luck, if it were a decent referee we would have seen a yellow card at least. But honestly...Pippo, Kaka and Ambro are doing great. Bonera too. But Pirlo..he has to wake up!! Loosing balls and playing everything with irritating ease.

Our defense..one of the worst jet. Dida should have started, Simic has one of his worst nights yet, and Maldini to be honest isn't doing well also.

Pippo score us a hattrick and let then Emerson and the boys in..

Favalli cost us on the first goal.. the lunge to no avail opened play right up. Simic and Kalac didn't help proceedings.

Maldini's lack of awareness started the 2nd goal conceeded, poor marking as well. Pretty sure he wasn't offside at first i thought he was, but when trezeguet headed he was onside. So no problem with the goal. Great tackle by kalac on him though, AFL like.. BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very entertaining game. Be interesting to see how we tire in the 2nd half.

Oh come on! it has been the entire defence's fault, Simic is being run down costantly and imo was 50% as fault for the first goal (the other 50 goas to Kalac for that horribly ametuerish split he did when he should have dived) and yes Paolo lost the ball but it was on the wing, someone should have been covering Trez and Salihamidzic and not let them get to the ball that easily

Paolo can hardly be held accountable for today if we don't get the 3 points, there are bigger culprits that we should be pointing the finger at.

As for Paolo losing the ball, yes he did that but so did Pirlo and Ambro has done it more then once today, so it's not only the "40 year old's" fault

What has his age has to do with anything man? I have the seen the players I mentioned make more crucial mistakes in one game than Maldini has made in the past two seasons!

Yes he was caught off-guard, it was his mistake! But why does his age have to be mentioned next to that? If he was 23 and he did that would it be less of a mistake? Del Piero snatching the ball away from him has nothing to do with him being 40 years old... after all out of the 5 players that tried to steal the ball away from Del Piero in that play he was the only one that made it... wasn't he 40 when he did that?

Pilro has made a couple of deadly mistakes... he must be 40 years old, it's the only explanation!
