Desperately need to win this. Sassuolo are really doing some great things so far this season. It's going to be a tough one for sure, but if Rino wants to save his job and most importantly, if the players want to save their coach, than they absolutely have to win this.
If Sassuolo wins (which happened quite a few times now) Rino could be fired.
It's way too early to makes these kind of predictions and projections.
What I meant was that it's still too early to say it's down to Roma. We'll see how Lazio and Fiorentina will get along, maybe Genoa, Torino or someone else can surprise as well. Finally, who knows. Maybe Roma will pick up pace while Spalletti will once again start his usual team decline. Still early IMO.
But regarding Milan yes, we need to win this one and try to start a winning streak if we wanna compete for the 4th spot.
What bothers me is that Serie A became so predictable. No real major shake-up in years by now. Juve winning it, Napoli picking up the runner up spots,...
Kessie missing another huge chance
This is why we're not winning games, we don't have that killer instinct in front of goal, especially when Higuain is not there
Phew...
Yesss!!
Just some quick observations before I head off to bed
1. Our defense is worrying. We simply cannot hold on to a clean sheet. Romagnoli and Musacchio for me don't really click together. When Caldara is fit I really want to see him get into the first team. Also, the midfield needs to help out more in this regard. Kessie needs to be a bit more disciplined and Bona needs to contribute more. Biglia's positioning is the only thing that generally prevents our defense from getting outnumbered on most occasions.
2. This team needs to build up confidence and quick. We stated out shaky, you could see the trepidation in the players. When we scored, they were still edgy as we know what happened in the last 2 games, but once we scored the third the confidence was flowing. When Sassuolo started pressing us again and we retreated into our shell, we conceded, and then you could almost see the red lights flashing in our players' eyes. They were like "oh sh!t". They're not comfortable defending, they're not confident that they'll be able to clear their lines and Donna doesn't help matters either with his sudden fetish for punching.
3. I was happy to see that Rino was able to push off that wall he got backed into, we knew this could possibly spell the end for him. And if we had lost points, you would have questioned the players' dedication towards him. But I'm happy to see that they're very much still willing to fight for him. So this gives me hope that we can get out of the rut we've been in.
What I want to see in the next games against Olimpiacos is a more compact midfield and defense which play as a unit. Our attacking game is clicking, we've just missed that extra bit of ruthlessness in front of goal. We lost a lot of chances against Empoli and Atalanta and also today, and if we can't hold onto a clean sheet atm then we have to make sure that we score at least 75% of the clear cut chances we create. Now that we're finally seeing more fluidity in the attacking third I can't wait to have Higuain back.
I don't really think our defensive problems our down to Musacchio and Romagnoli. To be honest, for the most part they've both been good this season thus far. When we concede it's because the team as a whole it's not defending well.
Hopefully the players can build confidence upon this game and start believing in themselves more.
