I can't say much about it. I'm going to be there and I just hope to survive watching it... cry.gif

THE MALDINI LEGACY WILL GO ON!

Posted by: Tennie May 18 2009, 08:05 PM

Fishdoll and I will also be present.

As for squad news, not much today as it's a rest day.

De Rossi is suspended for Roma.

Today's training has taken place.

After warmups, there was work with the ball, including ball possession drills, and then a practice game.

NESTA and GATTUSO trained with the team. 96.gif 96.gif 96.gif

Borriello did some running and sprints. Bonera did some running.

So this morning's training has taken place.

It was all individual work, with various groups working in the sand pit, running in the woods, doing sprints, etc etc etc.

There will also be an afternoon training session.

So you let dst open the thread...

I'me just saying if we lose, don't go blaming it on Carlo and the xmas tree

We know who the culprit is here tongue.gif

I think as a fellow mod, I'm required to stick up for his sorry @ss...

But if he's on the roof and by some chance encounter you see him there and accidentally nudge him off...

haha. And it IS windy on the roof of the Duomo.....

So, to business. The afternoon training session has taken place. Tactical work, drills, and practice game. Nobody mentioned by name in this report so can't gauge if Nesta et al are making progress.

The ticker on acmilan.com's italian page has just announced that the team will be wearing the new jersey for this game. Hopefully the white collars won't be too ugly.

What do you mean ? They will be wearing 3rd kit or the some kind of kit of the next season ? wink.gif

They'll be wearing the 09/10 jerseys.

Yea I've noticed other teams doing it before, namely Chelsea.

I guess from a marketing standpoint it makes sens, but I just prefer waiting. But what ever.
This way it could grow on us sooner...tongue.gif

Posted by: Tennie May 20 2009, 11:24 PM

They're going to have special commemorative jerseys for sale at the stadium, with special badges and 'Maldini 3' on the back. It'll be the 09/10 jerseys.

Posted by: MizNelson May 21 2009, 12:37 AM

They're going to make a big thing out of this (something about Paolo also taking a lap around the pitch?), much like Billy's sending off but on a far bigger scale. I wonder if that includes tossing him into the air?

Posted by: Tennie May 21 2009, 12:49 AM

The curva will almost certainly come up with something special.

There will be giveaways at the stadium -- Panini stickers from Il Capitano's previous seasons as well as scarves (I think. might be a charge for these things).

The lap at the end of the game is traditional, I think.

It's going to be quite a show.

Posted by: MizNelson May 21 2009, 01:04 AM

I'm willing to bet that most of the Milan faithful aren't even going to the stadium for the actual match itself. smile.gif

Posted by: Tennie May 21 2009, 01:09 AM

Why?

Posted by: dst May 21 2009, 01:20 AM

Of course, no one's going to watch Milan play against Roma, they are all going to watch Maldini's last home game. cool.gif

Posted by: MizNelson May 21 2009, 02:59 AM

QUOTE (Tennie @ May 20 2009, 05:09 PM) *
Why?

It's all about witnessing history (his last home game) and the postgame Maldinifest. Therefore, for some the match itself will practically be an afterthought.

Posted by: Tennie May 21 2009, 03:05 AM

You mean there's a match on Sunday? wink.gif

Joking, joking. For me, the match is really secondary to be honest. I'm one of those going to see Maldini.

Am just a wee bit disappointed De Rossi is suspended for this one. Was hoping to see whether or not he really has a Teletubby tattooed on his arm.

Best picture I could find. It'd be kind of hard to see it anyway during the game, since it's under his sleeve.

(Is Pirlo burping next to him?)

Posted by: Tennie May 21 2009, 03:55 AM

Okay, that definitely looks like a Teletubby. smile.gif Not sure what Pirlo's doing - unless he'd just scored? He kisses his ring finger after scoring goals.

Fishdoll thanks Didafan!

MILAN - In occasion of Milan-Roma, the Rossoneri will go on the pitch with the new official shirt of next season.

Posted by: Cuore Rossonero May 21 2009, 08:26 AM

Can't wait for this game, but i'm not thinking about Roma 1%. It's all about Paolo. warriorsmiley.gif

Posted by: Tennie May 21 2009, 05:17 PM

So, today's training.

Warmups and stretching, ball possession drills, and then practices at lateral crossing with Dida and Kalac in goal. Borriello trained with the team. (Nobody else was mentioned by name).

Fv*k Senderos! Send him back where he came from, let him go add nothing to someother team!
He hasn't been showing much promise.
We want to better our team, not stay the way we are!

Posted by: Coldest May 22 2009, 12:34 PM

Yeah, someone has said, that Rijkaard would best chose... I couldn't agree more. It would be very interesting to see how this Barca's ex-coach change the formation of ac milan, and starting line-up too. For the next season...

i was goona come to milan for the first time, to see the greatest of player wave goodbye to football, but Milan's security "staff" cancelled our trip with agency as it will be something like "one person/one ticket"...i don't really get the cause, but i'm really really sad at the moment...anyone knows more about this maybe???

I've also heard about this. Are there any prohibitons, that don't let organised groups on the stadium? That didn't happen on the last derbys, but now this. Is this true? Are there any prohibitons? I bet these are just lies...

Giocatori non convocati: Antonini, Nesta, Darmian, Mattioni, Cardacio, Viudez.
Giocatori indisponibili: Abbiati, Bonera, Kaladze, Borriello.

interestingly nesta is available but not picked and bonera again in injury list

Posted by: MizNelson May 23 2009, 07:32 PM

Why does Tennie's absence remind me of being back in school and finding out we're having a substitute teacher for the next week?

Posted by: CrazyMilanFan May 23 2009, 08:18 PM

MILANELLO - Before the team's training session this afternoon, ahead of Milan-Roma, last home match of the season and last match at San Siro in Paolo Maldini's career, a very special awarding took place. Adriano Galliani gave the Rossoneri captain the celebrative medal (with which the club celebrates each player's 100th game) for his 900th appearence in Milan's shirt. Maldini reached this target last Saturday at the 'Friuli' against Udinese, in the stadium where he made his debut in 1985.

Adriano Galliani started the awarding as follows in front of Milan Channel's cameras: 'Paolo Maldini has reached the 900 game milestone in 24 years. From the first, on 20 January 1985 at Udine against Udinese to the 900th, again at Udine on 16 May 2009.'

After these declarations, the Rossoneri team, who had gathered in front of the captain and Milan's Delegate Administrator, a long applause was given. Galliani then said to the players' group: 'I told Paolo that he has time until 6 July to change his mind and try to reach 1000 games..."
Adriano Galliani then continued: 'I saw an interesting statistic. Each time Maldini reached a 100th game, he played an away game. The 100th, the 200th and so on until the 900th, all away from home. It's a very interesting thing. I think Paolo has no equals in the world and nobody managed to play 900 official games in the same team like him. I think this is an absolute record that will remain in history. I don't think there will ever be a player in an important team like Milan who manages to reach this amount of games. I have no abjectives to explain what we think of Paolo, the numbers speak for him. And then his characteristics, which are unique in the world.

Paolo Maldini has another luck: he and his father lifted the Champions League as Milan captains. They didn't just win it, but lifted it as champions, 40 years apart. This will probably never happen again. Maldini's career is simply incredible.'

At this point there was more applause for the captain, who thanked everyone and promised to talk about his emotions after tomorrow's game.

Posted by: Zed.D May 23 2009, 08:46 PM

I agree with Galliani on this, no one will manage to make 900 appearances for an important club ever again! it's simply impossible in today's football.

Actually according to Booby McMahon of FOX Soccer Ch last night, Giggs would in fact have to play another 7 season to equal what Maldini has now done. At first the number seems shocking, until u do the calculations, and it seems accurate. wink.gif
What Maldini has done, is special... [so special that it does infact deserve another word to describe it]

As Sir Bobby McMahon also stated, to just simply refer to Maldini as the best defender of his generation cetrainly doesn't do him justice, as its more along the lines of 'best defender Ever.'

24/05/2009
MILAN: Dida; Flamini, Favalli, Maldini, Jankulovski; Beckham, Pirlo, Ambrosini; Kakà; Pato, Inzaghi.
ROMA: Artur; Motta, Mexes, Juan, Riise; Taddei, Brighi, Cassetti; Pizzarro, Vucinic, Totti.

Where is Zambro???

Posted by: CrazyMilanFan May 24 2009, 01:20 PM

very strange to see zambrotta out as for CB favilli to partner is good but it would have been lovely if nesta-maldini were playing for last time in san siro

Posted by: han2503 May 24 2009, 01:41 PM

Is Zambro injured?

I saw him in training yesterday on Milan channel he looked fine.

Hopefully he hasn't dropped him over Janku, because I know who I'd pick between the 2

Anyway, rest of the formation look good, glad to see Pato back in the starting 11 next to Pippo. I would have prefered to have Rino in midfield instead of Ambro, but I gues he's not 100% yet

some smell of fart why cant we just score please god make them play better after half time pleaseeeeeeeeeee unsure.gif

Posted by: Zed.D May 24 2009, 02:56 PM

I think Rino should come on not just because Ambro is not doing good. he can bring motivation back to the team

Ambro - Rino
Kaka - Dinho

I expect to see that

Posted by: han2503 May 24 2009, 02:59 PM

Kaka, Pippo and Ambro all looked really bad. Kaka is just looking way off his pace. He's losing balls and keeps trying to run at people but keeps getting blocked.

Pippo is not getting a look at the ball and somehow is still getting called offside every 5 minutes and it disrupts the flow of the play a lot. I would say leave him on if I thought he was going to score, but at this rate he doesn't look like he'd score if he stays on the pitch the entire day

Ambro, terrible performance, bad touch, bad passig, bad tackling. He's not the most gracful guy around but he's good at winning balls, but he's not even doing that right.

Hopefully these 3 will come off and get replaced by, Dinho, Sheva and Rino. Sheva and Pato looked great playing together in the firendly and I would like to see Carlo test it out today, I mean it can't be worse then what we already have on the pitch. Dinho also looked to be getting back to form from his recent outings and Rino needs to come on to bring some grit and so we could get rid of Ambro.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Carlo's tactical choices would be something like this

Rino for Becks @ 60min
Dinho for Pippo @ 75min
Snederos for Maldini @89min So that Paolo can get a standing ovation

It's frustrating how a Roma side which has been pure sh1te for many weeks comes and outclasses us in must win game like this. the same happened with Juve. they had been going through an awful form but came to San Siro and stopped us rather easily. how can it be any more obvious that changes are needed?

No way we'll win against Fiorentina next week.

At this point I'm hoping for a draw.

Hopefully whether we'll play preliminaries or not next season, it won't be Carlo that is coaching the team. I'm sick of his decisions. It's rediculous. Silvio looked p!ssed off today, hopefully he'll make the right decision.

Let Carlo go to Chelsea and take Seedorf with him

Let? He's going to Chelsea mate. It's done.

Unless Chelsea players are turning homo asking Mourinho things about Ancelotti...

Posted by: Fillipo Simone May 24 2009, 04:11 PM

Naah, Roma spoiled it all with their presistance, and of course, that stupid referee. It was so clear one of those 50-50 in-box-fouls should have been a penalty and Maldini should have scored, but no, instead he only had the courage to send off Ambrosini.

All in all a good match. Roma had 2 lucky goals, and Dida wasn't at his best either. Maldini's last San Siro match...and you really cannot say anything. All the talk gets for a moment irrelevant. It's just the stadium, the club and it's captain.

The last thing, the DIFF thing is the GOAL DIFFERENCE. That's what matters in Italy.

Therefore the 3rd place is safe, though is exactly the same to end 3rd or 4th. You gotta play the 3rd pre of the CL.

We have to win in Florence. Or at least get the same result of Juve against Lazio to be automatically in CL group stage.

He was really bad in the first half but really we wouldn't have scored had he not woken up and started playing, both goals came because of his assists and runs down the right.

Also, Pippo has lost all his mojo, we need to revert back to the Kaka, Pato, Dinho trident next week. We cannot afford to leave Dinho out.

We had just as much to play for as Roma had. Not only that we were giving our legendary captain a send off, and yet you're saying the players still can't find it in them to put in a decent performance??

Carlo made terrible decisions today. Why was Zambro dropped in favour of Janku?? That was the most ridiculous decisions I've seen him make in weeks. Kaka, again had a terrible game yet he doesn't dare to take him off, yes at the end he finally started to play well, but no one could have predicted that. He chould have come off at half time, simple as that

Well considering our defensive display I say it was a perfectly accurate result...

Yes the defensive wall was terrible in both free-kicks but aren't these things supposed to be practiced in training. Our defence has been cr@p for years now, and Carlo still hasn't adressed this problem. Shouldn't a coach be able to organize the defence, even if it isn't the best around?

And really, who would be? Maldini played his last match, that's important. Carletto lost many matches this season, I'm sure we've covered his mistakes very well so far, so...let's give it to Maldini this time.

Since 2005–06, if two or more teams end the season with the same number of points, the ordering is determined by their head-to-head records. In case two or more teams have same total points and same head-to-head records, goal difference becomes the secondary deciding factor.

It's quite possible Fiorentina makes it to 3rd if they beat us by 2 goals or more.

I don't know. There are Maldini, Favalli, Costacurta + the coaching staff with Tassotti; so many defensive specialists and oldies. I don't think it's up to the organization. I'm sure Mauro Tassotti is a very good defensive organizer.

But we must win our last game no matter what. not only for us, Genoa are chasing the 4th place and it'd not be fair if we went to Florence and didn't play to win. besides, we could take revenge for what happened last year! they went to the CL at our expenses, now it could be the other way around.

"C'è solo un capitano": il coro lo ha cantato tutto lo stadio, pensando a Paolo Maldini, ma la Curva ha calato la bandiera rossonera con nome e numero di Franco Baresi. Una contestazione del tifo organizzato che era già iniziato con uno striscione polemico, che faceva riferimento agli attriti avuti da Paolo con la Sud anni fa, in occasione del Capello bis: oggi, non era il momento più adatto forse per tirare fuori vecchie ruggini.

Regarding the goal difference vs head to head

It's on goal difference, especially if the official sites and lega calcio are putting us ahead of Juve. I wouldn't trust channel 4 or goal.com.

So next week, either we go play without a goalkeeper and get scored on a ridiculous ammount of times and Fiorentina better our goal difference or match it (this is when it will go to head to heads) and get third or we lose and still get 3rd because we have the better goal difference.

I can't see us winning at this point

you guys dont know yet?!?!?!?!?

They are so disgraceful, it pains me to retell.

Well they had a banner up saying "C'e solo un capitan --- #6 Baresi"
and they chanted some insults towards Maldini.
My stream cut off right after the whistle so gratefully i didnt have to witness this otherwise i'd have gone ballistic.

apparently he just hugged some players, Carlo, then went into the tunnel...

Why? What possible reason could they have for doing something like that?
