O.k, but when was the last time England beat on of these in a knockout game? It warks both way. You need to beat them also and if you can't you go to penalties where England lose.

Damn you, you're right. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I wouldn't mind playing Germany, I don't see them as a threat. We won the most recent game and the most recent competitive game.

Just remember three words.

Football's Coming Home. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I'm not convinced. Having one good tournement, which was in your home country, doesn't mean alot. Just look at Korea in '02.

Admittedly they're better than when we last played, but so are we. I suppose we'll see when we play next month. Nobody can use the excuse 'it's only a friendly'.. When has anything between us been anything close to friendly?

Yeah, should be a good game. I meant in the last year. Since the WC Germany playing pretty good while England worst than usual (draws with Israel and Macedonia, losing to Croatia and playing bad generally).

Ah, I see.

Yes, Germany are doing what we can't. They're beating the average teams, which we're not (No offense). And destroying minor nations, while we're either drawing with them or playing very poorly.

But I guess I'm just typically English when it comes to our NT. Ultimately confident. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

You should. Croatia getting very good results and Russia playing better and better every time (Plus they have Hiddink) so qualifying will be much harder than usual.

Say that again when we're champions of Europe (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I really think our team can win it again after 1996. It's a long time without an international title, and our team is IMO the best since the 1990 WC. We don't have as many international stars as England has. But we have a lot of young and evry talented players who want to become regular starters in our squad.
And about Germany only beating small teams. We beat Argentine in the WC although everyone said we wouldn't have a chance against them, and a few months ago we DOMINATED the Czechs.
About that small teams. A good team has to beat those teams, a few years ago Germany also s@cked against small teams. Drawing against Latvia (I think it was Latvia) in the Euro 2004 was surely no fun, and winning 1-0 against Faroes Islands (still can remember Rudi Voellers funny speech after the game "There are no small teams left in Europe..."). But for the first time in years our team is playing football and wins matches...so grant me the pleasure (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Actually, I remember that game quit clearly .. Argentina's GK got injured (abbadabadabad (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ) then they brought on Athletico GK (forgot name) .. That was when Germany started to score ...

Though Germany were favorites throughout the tournament, Argentina could have progressed, but because of the GK, they were held back.

Well, Pekermans arrogance to substitute Riquelme and others surely was a big mistake. But I guess we would have also beaten them with their best squad and Abbondanzieri (guess that was the GKs name) because of our passionated game. Argentine had the better team but or will to win was stronger IMO. That was the difference.

^^

Well what is done is done and Germany knocked them out ... But I was just pointing out that I still remember the game and the fact that I was pissed off (opps (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) that their GK, Abbondanzieri (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) , got injured ... That was definetely the turning point in the match. The Athletico keeper was a joke TBH.

But, whats done is done (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And Germany had a very good squad too, but Argentina showed the best football in the tournament, remember against Seria (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The turning point was when Pekerman turned the team into an anti-football (aka Liverpool) machine! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I didn't mean it in a bad way. I was just saying you're beating who you should, whereas we aren't. I was actually saying at the moment you're probably better than us. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

We both have something to prove at the Euro's.

Germany: Failed to make the knockout stages in 2000 & 2004
England: Failed to make the knockout stages in 2000. In 1996 and 2004 a Villa player missed the decisive penalty, I just hope a Villa player doesn't get picked this time round. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

You're right...since 1996 Germany only played awfull Euros(hard to admit for a big fan of the NT as I am one). Englands campaign in 2004 was very good IMO. They had a good team...and what a player Rooney was back then (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Too bad they lost that PK shootout, cause I really think they could have achieved a lot more.
A few words about England and the WC 2006. To be honest I thought they would win the WC this time. All that top class players, even more than Brazil had IMO. But they never really managed to get into the tournament. Dunno why. Now they've got McClaren who doesn't really have an idea of the kinda football he wants to play, which is IMO more important than the players (and as I said...judging they're individual skills Englands players are a lot better than Germanys).

I really don't know what went wrong with this World Cup. Euro 2004 we were superb, but it just didn't seem to catch on.

Germany are very unpredictable. Just look at the last two World Cups.

You lose 5-1 in Munich. Make the World Cup Final.
You lose 4-1 to Italy as a warm up for the WC. then make the semi finals.

I think you're more of a 'team' than England, alot of our players are very individual.

I'm sure you'll make the semi finals of Euro 2008. Anything can happen from there.
