@Fillipo

I think you're being too pessimistic. To be honest, I don't see many of the problems you pose.

Firstly, our defense was not solid, it was utter shite. And we made some great, great improvements. Both Conti and Rodriguez thus far have shown that they're the real deal. Musacchio has been a pleasant surprise, and the addition of Bonucci brought a much needed leader and top player to the team. Not to mention Donnarumma's contract renewal. When we start playing 3-5-2, a defensive trio of Musacchio-Bonucci-Romagnoli with Conti and Rodriguez on the wings is top club material.

In attack we didn't sign a winger because I'm certain that with Bonucci's signings the club's plans shifted altogether, and the possibility of playing 3-5-2 became the priority. I agree that the lack of a marquee signing like Belotti or Aubameyang was disappointing for all, but still Silva and Cutrone are great talents and Kalinic is a decent enough back-up. Not to mention Suso, one of our best players.

In midfield we lack depth, but the starting material players (Kessie, Biglia, Bovanentura and Calhanoglu) are a huge re-assurance compared to who we had before. I understand your reservation towards Hakan, you know him better than us, but I still have high hopes for him. Plus we can still field a very good midfield with Kessie, Biglia and Jack even without Hakan. And they're all creative as well as hard-working players.

Overall, I think we have a very capable team for making the CL next season and winning the EL this one. If we obtain CL football next season (which I'm sure of) then you can only be certain that we'll keep improving this team with more important players.

I don't think I'm pessimistic at all. We almost hit rock bottom with the last few Berlusconi seasons. After such experience almost any mildly good signing campaign would do it.

I'm just not thrilled or stunned by our market success. I was sure Berlusconi would hand the club over to the right owner, so I expected nothing short of professionalism and strategy for our first season. Yet some signings seem redundant and even uninspired. The only true inspirational signings are Kessie and Rodriguez. Those are treasures. But Biglia, Kalinić and Musacchio were on Milan-radar even during the Galliani era, just we lacked money to close such deals.

What I expected was more of the Rodriguez kind of signings and less of the Kalinić kind signings.

Well, the APACF show was indeed a recap of the market with no new signings being announced.

Was nice to hear the explanations and responses to some of the questions, but none of the information was really new.

While the team isn't complete, I never imagined the transfers that came in this window. Didn't think I'd warm to the new guys either, but the way they've conducted things has led me to really respect both
Fassone and Mirabelli. Well done.

(Am pretty sure Willy A. lives in Gallarate. Exellent Instagram trolling there).

You do realize that we spent 230M in total, right? For that amount PSG signed one single player, whereas we signed 11, an entire new line-up.

Kalinic and Biglia were never linked with us before, only Musacchio. And how much did we sign him for? 18M. Don't forget that Galliani spent 21M for Bertolacci only two summers ago, so it's not entirely true that we never had the money.

We conducted some excellent businesses both in terms of player quality and fees. Of course you can't expect us to sign the James Rodriguez and Di Maria's of this world, just to name a couple of names, in our very first signing campaign of the new ownership. Especially without CL football. But this is the first step towards rebuilding this club and bringing it to the top again.

Musacchio, Bonucci, Conti, Rodriguez, Kessie, Biglia, Calhanoglu, Silva and even Kalinic are all exciting names compared to what we were used to signing every summer in the past 5-6 years. The team is there. Definitely not title-contender material, but good enough to bring us to the Europe that counts. One step at a time, my friend, one step at a time.

I side with Pippo on this. I've had enough of signing shiny player XXX only for the performances on the pitch not to back up the reputation.

There is no difference right now in defence over last season. On paper yes. Pitch? Only maybe at full back.

And the rest of the team is not proving itself yet.

Let's wait till time vindicates these signings, because saying we've done well after the shite performances we've seen so far is blind faith.

Wait till till the performances justify that faith.

I am yet to be convinced.

I strongly agree with X-Off. And Danny, you are so wrong mate when you say that the defence has no difference from last years. Do you want me to mention how many times qe lost points due to Paletta being a total moron getting red cards and Zapata making childish errors ?! No friend, we improved a lot, especially in the defense.

Give this team 2-3 more months and we will see. For now we have to be pleased getting 3 points even if that means struggling. What I mean by 2-3 months is the time for them to get to know each other. But I am very confident that next year we will have a team compact enough to be the best Italy team in CHL and achieving most. Maybe not a final, but I can see us reaching the semis. Wait and see, the potential is there!

Wow, you've been castigating of Bonucci and even called him reckless yet it's ok now to be like that because he's not bald and called Paletta? You're a tad hypocritical here.

The difference is we haven't yet paid for the frailties. Hopefully we don't and they improve.

And don't call me wrong buddy, it's just my opinion.

Fassone: 'Milan spent over €230m'
By Football Italia staff

Milan CEO Marco Fassone revealed they were tracking Franck Kessie for a year and confirmed they spent €230m.

“Some of the first contacts we had with players who arrived this summer go back to last August. I remember (director of sport Massimiliano) Mirabelli went to see a game last year and he wanted to see Kessie play for Atalanta against Cagliari, so we were watching him for a long time,” explained Fassone on a livestreamed interview.

“There would be many anecdotes to tell about the transfers, but we’ll keep them to ourselves, the spice of life.

“Initially we had expected to pay less for transfers and more on wages, but we changed the balance. We spent over €230m and will put all of them on this year’s balance sheet, there will be no spreading out with loans or anything else.

“We thank the President, who allowed us to make an important splash on the transfer market. You see some huge numbers. We made some sales, and there might be a few others over the next few days, as some transfer windows are still open, and aim to eventually bring in around €60m from sales.

“We kept the commissions under control, under the five per cent mark, so worth circa €12m. The salary for the first team, which is very competitive, is €110-120m. Compared to the budget we had, we are actually better off and did almost everything we wanted to.”

This is (pretty much) a brand new team. To expect that it will start "clicking" immediately is asking for a bit much, IMHO. While time may prove you right, I think jumping to conclusions right now is premature. Need to have a little patience ...

Also, please compare this with what happened the last 5-6 years. Even the one year where we spent close to half of what we spent this summer with nothing to show for it.

Reckless? Where did I call him that? Can you quote me please? He had one bad game for which I fairly said that he did bad and expect better. I never use extreme terms like you use Danny.

QUOTE (Danny @ Sep 1 2017, 01:26 PM) *

Why do you say that? Its not a contradiction at all to admit that the team needs time to glue to each other, while I still think that in paper and in field this defense even at this time is better than last years defense. Me being fair and realist somehow gets you confused and you think I contradict myself. That's a side effect of having extreme thoughts, either somone is very good or very bad, nothing in between. As I said before, contrary to you, when a player plays bad - for example Silva few games ago I will rate him low and point out that for that game he looked bad, while I rated him high when he played good in the next game. For me, there are lots of circumstances before I judge a player, I would never dare to judge a player in general by just 1 game, and even worse, by even not see him play, like you did with Silva even before he played an official match.

You are the only one making judgements here Danny, and you have been called for that lately quite much (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

NVM, it's your opinion, I respect it, but when you attack mine and claim that I am showing hipocrisy or contradiction I got to give it to you straight. Cheers.

They seem to think that we had a great campaign as well: http://www.football-italia.net/109247/merc...t-success-milan

In the interview, I liked what Fassone said. He showed that he is really listening to the fans. As most people said we were lacking one more midfielder and a left winger.

In addition, Ambrosini said that the strikers will decide our season. And, I tend to agree because it is the area with the most variables for us. But, honestly, even there, I only see positives. Kalinic, in my opinion, should do really well with Montella. I'm expecting him to click really well with him! Cutrone is playing well, and I think Silva's class will in the end shine through. I think Silva is definitely in the plans of Montella,(let's not forget it's a 40million buy) but it's just going to take a bit of time to integrate.

I really would have liked one star in attack and another one in midfield, but like Fassone said...January is close!

Belotti, man, Belotti. We'd have had a top class scoring machine.
