Kalac
Oddo-Nesta-Kaladze-Jankulovski
Gattuso-Pirlo-Gourcuff
Seedorf
Gilardino-Pato

I would like to rest some players, but we need the pts.

I hope we will put on a good performance but I doubt it considering that the match with Arsenal is just 2 days later... why is this game on Sunday!?!?!?! This can't be right... unsure.gif

Posted by: acid911 Feb 27 2008, 11:15 PM

Crucial encounter. But with the kind of tactics I've seen from our coach, and the play we've been putting up lately, I'd bet on and be happy with a draw. Unless a lucky goal sees us through to a win, which seems highly unlikely. sad.gif

Let's hope for the best, though, as always! cool.gif

I think Milan will have more of a real starting XI for the Lazio game (sorry, dst, I count Kaladze as part of that XI).

Lazio's been doing very poorly this season. They'll want revenge for the hammering, but even so I feel quietly confident about this game.

I'm certain that we'll be seeing a fairly strong Milan lineup, even with Arsenal coming up soon after that. Hopefully we can put up a better performance in front of our home crowd. I predict 2-1, though it won't surprise me a bit if we manage to scrap with a draw. wink.gif

Exactly. I hope Kaka doesn't start /or/ play at all on Saturday [which seems to be the case]. and maybe we should give Pato a time to breathe?! he's been playing every 3-4 days whenever available. we NEED his pace against Arsenal. I hope for a Gila-Paloshi or something like that on Saturday...

Posted by: Tennie Feb 28 2008, 09:20 PM

I'd imagine that one of the former Lazio captains (Nesta or Oddo; Favalli doesn't count since he's sitting out a ban for yellow card accumulation) will play the majority of this game. Lazio are really struggling in Serie A but they're not going to be an easy team for Milan - at least the type of Milan we saw in Sicily yesterday - to beat.

Yeah, the scary side of Milan. I can only hope we see the good side fielded against Lazio, the one that plays positively and has a desire to win - not draw. Guess we'll know in a couple of days time. unsure.gif

I'm expecting Nesta and Oddo to start, but I hope Nesta gets a breather at HT because he is vital for Arsenal.

C4 preview

Milan welcome Lazio to the Meazza with open arms as the Rossoneri look for a repeat performance of their stunning 5-1 victory against the Biancocelesti last October. Carlo Ancelotti’s side relinquished fourth place at bogey side Catania on Wednesday evening and cannot afford to slip up if they are to qualify for the Champions League next term.

The European champions were sluggish at the Massimino. Paolo Maldini captained a starting XI, including Alexandre Pato, with an average age of 32 to a dismal 1-1 draw. The absences of Kaka and Pirlo were telling as Milan lacked any creative spark and had to rely on the individual brilliance of Pato to get a result. Ancelotti said: “It was a missed opportunity. We took the lead and I am disappointed we could not manage it better.”

Fiorentina’s defeat of Livorno means that the Rossoneri cannot relax against Lazio ahead of their European tie with Arsenal on Tuesday. The home side have to win if they are to keep step with the Viola. Milan’s run-in is tougher than the other contenders vying for a final Champions League spot – the Rossoneri go to Udine on the final day of the season and have yet to travel to Juventus, Roma and Napoli.

Milanisti woes are compounded by the suspension of Giuseppe Favalli and doubts over the fitness of Rino Gattuso, Kakha Kaladze and former Laziale Alessandro Nesta. Milan’s home record of only four wins out of 12 would give heart to Lazio if only they were decent on their travels. Delio Rossi’s outfit have only won once away all season and the Aquilotti haven’t been victorious at the San Siro in Serie A since 1989 when Maldini scored an own goal.

It’s been an odd campaign for Lazio who, this time last year, were enjoying a run of eight consecutive victories that incredibly led them to third place and a European berth in spite of a penalisation levied for involvement in Calciopoli.

But the Champions League damaged the club’s domestic form. While competing in the group stages between October and November the capital side lost four games in a row and are still struggling for consistency. January signing Rolando Bianchi is trying to help the team turn over a new leaf – he got his first goal and three points for the Laziali against his old club Reggina in midweek.

The comeback of Tommaso Rocchi to the team – and the scoring charts – after injury and the return of Valon Behrami from suspension give Delio Rossi plenty of options to break an almost 20-year duck at the San Siro.

Keep an eye on: Alexandre Pato (Milan) – Younger by seven years than his teammates on Wednesday, Il Papero has lived up to the hype. He has netted five times in eight games with both feet and is responding well to the added responsibility that came after Ronaldo’s injury.

Last season: Milan 2-1 Lazio

Form guide: Milan (W W DW D) Lazio (D W L W L W)

Milan (probable): Kalac; Oddo, Maldini, Bonera, Cafu; Ambrosini, Pirlo, Brocchi; Seedorf; Pato, Inzaghi

Lazio (probable): Ballotta; Radu, Cribari, Siviglia, De Silvestri; Manfredini, Ledesma, Dabo; Meghni; Pandev, Bianchi

Long and meandering pre-match press conference by Carletto today.

Highlights:

*No Kaka, though probably for the Arsenal game
*Ditto Nesta
*Pirlo may or may not play; it'll be a game day decision
*Gilardino may play
*Pato can do more than has been seen in games

The referee for the game will be Domenico Celi, one of the new young refs. He's refereed 11 games in Serie A, none for Milan so far.

Nothing more to say, with an average age of 32, what does the future hold? Players like Gourcuff not being given enough time to build confidence, same as Bonera (then Carletto admitting that he wasn't treated fairly after seeing him shine!), what's up? Can anyone answer me this question? what does the future hold?? Probably it would take losing to Arsenal for the management to wake up!!

Posted by: acid911 Feb 29 2008, 04:49 PM

No Kaka, though probably for the Arsenal game (Sounds good)
Ditto Nesta (Ditto)
Pirlo may or may not play; it'll be a game day decision (We might not live long enough to regret it if not)
Gilardino may play (I'm okay with that)
Pato can do more than has been seen in games (We already know that, you silly rabbit)

What surprise me is no mention of Gorcuff, even at this do or die, crunch stage of the season. rolleyes.gif Granted he's low on confidence and maybe his technique is different than what Carlo wants, but still we need creative players to motivate our stagnant midfield. We need attack minded approach if we want to stay in the race for fourth place. I only hope Gorcuff shows courage and stands up against his problems.

Posted by: Tennie Feb 29 2008, 05:06 PM

I'll probably get slated for saying this, but...well, I'm just not all that impressed with Gourcuff. His first touch is great, but not his second and I'm not at all sure of his attitude.

I do trust Ancelotti to do the best he can with the players that're at his disposal. There's got to be some reason why he's not fielding Gourcuff more frequently and if it comes down to it, I trust Carletto more than I trust Gourcuff.

That said, onto today's training (from acmilan.com's italian page): Talk followed by warmups and then a practice game. Seedorf, Nesta, Pirlo, and Kaka trained separately.

We obviously need some sort of playmaker on the pitch. If for whatever reason it's not deemed appropriate to start or play Gourcuff on Sunday, I wouldn't mind seeing Carletto give a shot to Kingsley Umunegbu from the Primavera. From what I gather, he's an AM with a lot of potential.

Posted by: acid911 Feb 29 2008, 05:31 PM

You're right on more than one count, Tennie, but it defies logic going in with such low creativity in the midfield in these crucial encounters. They way we play, we need more than one playmaker to really mount an effective attack. The team looks decent when both Pirlo and Kaka are playing, but we're toothless when they're not. sad.gif

Some may not agree with me here but from the games we're played in the league this year, apart from one or two good performances, we've been lucky to get away with 3 points. Scoring goals in the last quarter of the match (against mid-table teams) is not the way for World Champions to play. Not to mention we failed to keep the lead is worrying in itself.

Getting back to Gorcuff, I really hope it's not his attitude problem. I'd be pretty disappointed myself if I came on the last 5-10 minutes in a match, and players like Brocchi were preffered - when clearly the lack of creativity is hurting the team. Look at Paloschi - we tried him, and know that we have someone to fall back on in case of an emergency. Still like you said, if it came to trust I'd trust Ancelotti. Not very much, but I still like him. tongue.gif

(call up list from the news ticker on acmilan.com's italian page)

Hrm. Well, I was partly right, it would appear. No Kingsley but a whole host of other Primavera have been called up for the game. Carletto's taking the Gooner match midweek VERY seriously.

PORTIERI: Fiori, Kalac, Offredi;
DIFENSORI: Bonera, Darmian (n.36), Digao, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Maldini, Oddo;
CENTROCAMPISTI: Ambrosini, Caraglia (n.39), Emerson, Gattuso, Gianola (n.35), Gourcuff, Seedorf;
ATTACCANTI: Aubameyang (n.94), Gilardino, Inzaghi, Pato, Paloschi

Before anyone asks, it's Willy and not Pierre; this, according to the squad list-with-pictures-and-jersey-numbers on acmilan.com.

Caraglia and Gianola are both 18 and both local boys; Caraglia's scored a good few goals for the kids this year. Darmian's good in defense and I wouldn't be surprised if he was bumped up to the senior team this year.

EDIT: Darmian and Paloschi are two of the 3 Milan kids called up this week.

Posted by: nuh Feb 29 2008, 05:46 PM

is daramin that gd ??....and do u think there is a video that i could watch from him ?

Posted by: Tennie Feb 29 2008, 05:53 PM

Eek, videos? I'm not a good person to ask about those. Technology is scary for me.

What I can say is that I saw Darmian play in the Udinese game last May -- it was Billy's farewell game and the last home game before the CL final. He impressed me -- and apparently he impressed the papers too, as Gazzetta gave him a rating of 6, which is pretty good for a kid.

Posted by: zdrossoneri Feb 29 2008, 06:57 PM

I want Darmian to play tomorrow! really curious to see why he's so highly-rated.

Posted by: Darunia Feb 29 2008, 07:21 PM

I'm surprised Maldini is called up, he played on Wed and never plays two games in a row.

I expect

Kalac
Oddo Bonera Kaladze Jankulovski
Gattuso Emerson Gourcuff
Seedorf
Pato Gilardino

Maybe Ambro for Gourcuff. Both should see time, Brocchi/Pirlo/Kaka not called up.

QUOTE (Tennie @ Feb 29 2008, 05:06 PM)
I'll probably get slated for saying this, but...well, I'm just not all that impressed with Gourcuff. His first touch is great, but not his second and I'm not at all sure of his attitude.
*

I'm 100% with you. There is something wrong with Yohann. Carlo would have given him an oppotunity otherwise - hell, he scored in his first CL match, did well at the beginning, etc. But it looks like Carlo crossed him out for a reason. It's not that Ancelotti is the most stubborn coach in the world; and it's not like Carlo adores Brocchi. But for some reason he gives even a mediocre or bad Brocchi the advantage.

QUOTE
We obviously need some sort of playmaker on the pitch. If for whatever reason it's not deemed appropriate to start or play Gourcuff on Sunday, I wouldn't mind seeing Carletto give a shot to Kingsley Umunegbu from the Primavera. From what I gather, he's an AM with a lot of potential.

I agree, but we all know that it won't happen. Look how Paloschi did well, and how hard he finds playing time.

One thing bothers me - this season is a bad one, clearly. Some players will leave, some others retire. We are struggling to finish 4th. But I understand why and do not complain much. I'm fine with Carlo in 08/09 either. But what I don't understand is why doesn't Carlo experiment more? Honestly, why doesn't he try Ibrahim Ba out (prepared to be laughed out.. tongue.gif )? I mean, not that Ba is the end of the World. He played with Milan, has experience, maybe he would bring something, let's say against a crappy Empoli or Reggina team? Or why not like Tennie suggested, Umunegbu? Or Willy? Why don't we try playing Gila-Palo-Pippo in one, or I dunno...

You are thinking of a 4-3-3 right? Unfortunately that cant work with those strikers. You need Palladino/Quagliarella/Di Natale style forwards for that to work, as you usually have 3 MC's or 1 DMC + 2 MC's, if that happens there is no width, therefore teams can easily deal with attacks

CARLO SEES THE LIGHT!!!

Finally Yoann starting.

And I'm glad he chose Emerson ahead of Ambro to start in the middle, he has been one of the most impresive performers in the team, and probably the only decent replacement we have to Pirlo, obviously they're not the same, but he has a much better range of passing then both Ambro and Rino combined

Our 3 strikers and Lazio's 3 striker.. creating nothing.

Very boring game.

Pato - Gila - Paloschi.. doesnt look like it'll work. Gourcuff had an okay start but hasnt done match. Oddo and Janku's crosses have been poor

Posted by: dst Mar 1 2008, 09:24 PM

Boring, boring Milan!! So painful to watch...

Someone has to tell Oddo that a full back is supposed to run when attacking and not sit there exchanging passes with the CB's... make a 1-2 for ****s sake, do something don't just stand there!! Argghhh!!!

... so damn annoying!!

Looking good?? laugh.gif ..this match is killing me. It's so boring and unattractive..

Just like I said before - Gourcuff, with or without, minor difference. But okay, he's now that Seedorf's gone the only creative spark. Btw. the first few minutes Seedorf and him looked really excellent. Seedorf started well today, it's sad he's out.

But Jankulovski and Oddo?? Both deserve a 4/10 till now. Can they cross? Jankulovski had 4 crosses - 2 were to far, 1 right at the hands of Ballotta, and 1 hit the first block. Really poor and annoying. Oddo was a bit better, but still, I'm gonna die if this will repeat at second half.

One more - Gilardino. Is he playing?????? It's over, finito, end, schluss,..I don't want to see him any more. He's just waisting our time. Move him over to Juventus. I really did defend him, but his work rate is so low, I just can't watch him without having guilty-feelings..

4 - 1 Atletico biggrin.gif

Posted by: Warchant Mar 1 2008, 09:30 PM

i dont think our strikers are to blame for this

from what i've seen..defense is playing very well, midfield...good enough...gorcouff looks much better.

the problem (which i believe has been a problem the past couple of weeks) are janku and oddo's crosses in the middle...they are absolutely terrible.

they haven't done the strikers any favors at all.

4-2 Eto'o now.

Posted by: han2503 Mar 1 2008, 09:31 PM

I think Yoann should switch to the middle, with Emerson and Rino play a bit behind him, something like this:

----Rino--Emerson----
-------Yoann-----------
---Palo--Gila--Pato----

We need someone in the middle that can direct the play, and Yoann is the only one on the field that can do something remotely similar to that.

Rino and Puma will be covering him so he won't have to do any defending like he is doing now.

Or maybe Pato isntead of playing as a left forward should move in the center behind the strikers, he can move the ball really quicky, I think he would do well in that spot.

And let's face it, if we are to win this tonight it will come from something out of nothing from Pato. He's the only one on that field that can produce a moment of brilliance. Hopefully he won't get injured because he needs to start against Arsenal

Don't give Galliani any ideas rolleyes.gif

If Gila goes then he better be replaced by a class striker that can gaurantee us a certain amount of goals every season. (Drogba/Huntelaar/Benzema) those are the only guys I would want if we were to sell Gila. We can't keep this sh!t up, we barely have a team anymore!!! I'm not defending him, because he had a poor one today. But he couldn't do anything on that header, he and Ambro got in eachother's way by going for it together and he was being puched as he jumped, so it's not his fault that he didn't make good contact

1) Gouri played a very good match. It's a position from which he now can be considered as a good alternative. He made the difference - +1 for Gouri

But this corner stealing is really stupid? He's not at Rennes anymore, he's im Milan. He's gotta learn to steal like a professional, or better just stop.

2) Janku and Emerson!? Injuried or?? Emerson played okay, why was he subbed?

What really irritates the cr@p out of me is the fact that we've p!ssed Serie A games off at will before CL ties, and not even acknowledging the fact that Arsenal could knock us out and we might not even make 4th spot because we saw it fit to p!ss games away for something that can easily be lost because of a bad night like a cup competition.

If we don't even make 4th this season then we only have ourselves to blame, especially if we get knocked out on Tuesday

About Gourcuff. He proved he is very good defensively and can only get better in attack. He made a lot of bad passes today but he also had some very good moments. Not positive and not negative attacking-wise but this was a good display overall. I think he should play in Pirlo's position, he's better in organizing the play from the back and is also good in tackling. Never going to be a great '10'/trequartista, he does not have what it takes.

He was at fault for the goal, his positioning was awful. And as soon as Carlo touched that back 4 Lazio started making chances, and imo, they had just as much chances to win it as us in the second half.

If Carlo wanted to rest Janku he should have put Favalli on in his place and not messed with the center backs in the middle of a game. Kala and Bonera were doing great together, I can't understand what possessed him to make that sub in such a crucial game

I couldn't believe that Oddo could score a penalty. I wouldn't lie, i was scared that he'll miss it.He's crosses are wack..I don't think he can see at all..

Gourcuff played good..but he still needs to grow..Only Brazilians and Italians are filled in Milan..Gila is one of the worst strikers today..He's ball control on d ground is 0..We need help!!

Sacking Magath wasn't a wise decision IMO. Ottmar didn't do much better than he did. Bayern have almost bought a new team. This won't happen here IMO. Bayern was always machiavellian about their players (with very few exceptions like Oli Kahn or Mehmet Scholl). If they weren't good enough any more...sell them! This even happened to stars like Elber, Makaay and Effenberg although the fans loved them (and this strategy is part of their success IMO). Can't see this happening @ Milan.

Gourcuff...wasn't too impressed by him. But in this current situation even the most experienced player would have problems to make an impact.

He's Kaka's brother, it was a contract addition. But till now he never had to play.

Ok, maybe a 7, but he did conceed and I give only 7.5 or 8 to keepers with a clean sheet.

But yes, we know that Sopranac is doing well,..

Ratings:

Kalac: 8
Oddo:6
Bonera:6.5

Gattuso:6
Gourcuff:7
Seedorf(for his few mins):6
Ambrosini: 6
Gilardino: 3
Paloschi:5.5

We should have won this match..There was no real playmaker and that cost us, we need a good replacement for Pirlo, at least when he's not playing..We need like Riquelme

He's stealing centimeters. Exactly, he's not getting anything from that except that he's breaking the rules and makes unneccesary complications. Last time I saw something like this, I watched the African Nations Cup.

Is this a racist comment?? Just kidding... biggrin.gif

Another question goes in my head right now - when did Digao surpass Simic? It seems like they really want Dario to leave and loose his spot in the NT.
*

It's really bothering me this one. Simic is a good player. Undoubtedly a handful of levels above Digao. And the treatment he gets from a club that's known for their excellent relationship with it's players, is disgusting to say the least! I don't get it... maybe it's a rule in Kaka's new contract that his brother has to play in some games?? rolleyes.gif

He should never have to play..He sucks big time..There are a lot of better players out there even in the premiership..

Not this is a "racist" belief. Why is a keeper only worthy of a 8 maximum?? I hate it how defensive players are underrated!

Seedorf's was not something serious, was it? I think him coming off was only a precaution... unsure.gif

Yea he was trying not to risk it so he could play in the ARSENAL Clash..So he wasn't risking it!!

Waait...

Buffon, Casillas and some other guys go till 10
Dida, Curci, Van der Sar, etc. till 9

But Kalac's maximum is 8.5. Belive me, he's partly Croatian, I know what I'm talking about.

Yes,...but now that Nesta and Maldini are rested, why didn't Carlo at least try put Kaladze on left and Simic-Digao, or Simic-Bonera in center? I mean even with Digao, Simic still should have been selected for this match.

You know my opinion on this matter...

Posted by: zdrossoneri Mar 1 2008, 11:20 PM

Gilardino was just... puke.gif and I believe there were two supporting strikers around him. but he was just ' puke.gif '. we must sell him this summer. he just can't fit in in Milan. end of story.

Pato was undoubtedly our best player [along with Kalac of course]. his technique is truly fantastic. shame he couldn't win us three points...

Thank you..I think since when he arrived in milan, we've been bad in Serie A..Maybe if we sell him, we'll be good again..

If Gilardino played against us, i don't think he'll touch the ball..

QUOTE
Seedorf out of Arsenal clash
Saturday 1 March, 2008

Carlo Ancelotti admits Milan aren’t at their best right now and Clarence Seedorf is out of action against Arsenal.

“I am only worried by the fact we are going into a match with a very strong team in what is not our best form,” said the Coach after their 1-1 draw with Lazio.

It was a second consecutive Serie A stalemate after the midweek 1-1 at Catania and Massimo Oddo’s penalty was needed to fight back from a Rolando Bianchi opener.

The first half performance in particular was very poor and the tempo was kept sluggishly slow.

“I have to say, though, that I don’t see teams in Italy and Europe who are much sharper than we are at the moment.” {{WHAT?? DEFINE 'MUCH'... rolleyes.gif}}

During this evening’s encounter Seedorf went off with a thigh problem in the first half and Ancelotti confirmed the Dutchman would not be available for Tuesday’s encounter with Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Lazio President Claudio Lotito – still the only member of the club who will speak to the media – complained that the penalty incident was unfair.

“I saw that at least four Milan corner kicks should have been retaken because the ball was outside the line and that includes the one that led to Oddo’s equaliser.

“We deserved to win, especially considering all the chances we had at the start of the second half. Milan only avoided defeat thanks to Zeljko Kalac’s great saves. He was decisive.”

I'm not so sure Seedorf is out. But I don't think he will be a big miss... he's not in a good condition right now.

As for the penalty... it was clear!

It ain't that Simple but puttin confidence in a person for more than 2 years is just too much. At least the confidence Carlo is putting in Gourcuff is good cuz GOURCUFF is trying at least but Gila is just getting worse!!

I sometimes wonder whether he watches the games.

He just seems to come out saying how great we are, even if we just don't look like we're ever going to score. He isnt a great manager at all.

Depends.

If we are going to field out Gouri and Kaka + Pirlo and Gattuso, yes.
But if it's gonna be something near the "triangulo della morte" - read Emerson-Ambro-Gattuso, it's very very bad. And Gouri starting against Arsenal..seems just very unlike.

Catching up a bit on the conversation. Re: Simic - he apparently pulled up with some sort of thigh injury yesterday or he'd almost certainly have played.

I'd also like to put in a word for Kaladze and Bonera. Kaladze was fairly good today - at least there were no Kaladzities - and Bonera was solid in the centre and did the best he could when he was moved over to the left. It's not his position and that much is clear to everyone, but I think he's at least been putting in effort. He was one cheap buy last year that's turned out to be a damn good investment.

EDIT: Janku and Emerson pulled up with injuries at the half, apparently. That's why they were substituted. In the interviews on acmilan.com's italian page, they don't seem to be sure whether or not Seedorf will be able to play against Arsenal. They DO seem sure that Kaka, Nesta, and Pirlo will be available.

What was up with Gourcuff's CKs outside the line? It was just stupid, it's not that big of a difference but now Lotito is complaining about it. I can't believe Seedorf got injured, he should've been rested for this one IMO cuz he had bunch of injury issues. Now we're going to play two strikers for arsenal?

Likely. I hope Pippo-Pato.

But yes, it was very stupid and not neccesary at all. We scored from a penalty, made on Kaladze in a action after a corner kick. So...it just gives Lotito space to complain. Very stupid.

it's funny how the only talk is about how poor gilardino is because i dont exactly see anyone else standing out. this team is so pathetic it's unbearable. actually they remind me a lot of the inter of 2 seasons ago that like drew half their games rolleyes.gif

I agree, especially the fact gilardino nevers gets quality service from the midfield...it showed when you have no decent sub for kaka and pirlo

according to him we should have a perfect record up to date, either we are unlucky, refs are against us or the opposition's GKer was amazing. seriously if the coach always tells us were doing great why should i care about improving? great way to motivate an already mega motivated team rolleyes.gif

I would imagine there's a difference between what's said to the press and what's said in the dressing room. These guys aren't blind and stupid. They know there are some serious problems.
