Serie A In Debt

An analysis by the Italian daily newspaper 'Il Sole 24 Ore' has discovered that the total debt of the Serie A teams amounts to 380 million Euros.

A worrying result has come out of the analysis carried out by 'Il Sole 24 Ore', where it was found out that Italian football is in red, with a loss of 380 million Euros in the past season.

The team with the worst balance is Inter, with a loss of 181.5 million Euros, almost half of the entire Serie A losses, and in 'second place' we find Juventus with a loss of 36.5 million Euros.

The other big Italian team, Milan, has a profit of 2.48 million Euros, thanks to the sale of 42 million Euros of Andriy Shevchenko which allowed the European Champions to end in the green side of the balance.

The club with the best balance is Udinese, where the Friulani ended with a profit of 6.5 million Euros.

This proves yet again that the finances in Italian football are disastrous, a trend which has been constant for the past ten years.

The only positive note is that in the previous year, the total loss was of 407 million Euros, therefore there was a slight improvement in the balances, even though it is not enough to auspicate a bright future yet.

That's damn good business for ya. Sell Shevchenko for E40m, make an overall profit of E2m.

Im guessing that in Italy its more expensive to buy players and also cuz of the tax ??

What's wrong with Serie A is that the teams are not getting enough money by the league... In the Premier League, Derby County earned E80m as a result of their promotion and the teams the are demoted get E10m for expenses...

Different rules, different results... I wouldn't like to think that this policy is leading Italian football into a bog... but this could be the truth.

I think the Italian public lack the interest to go and watch the games for some reason. Selling out the stadiums would be a start, The Championship had more support than Serie A last season.

They certainly do need to be taken care of more, Serie A is for me, the best league in the World. It needs to start showing that, financially it's been a mess for a while and needs to get it sorted in whichever way it can.

@Jefri: I don't think it matters what league you're from, transfers will cost the same. You just convert the money from one currency to another.

Well last season was a weird one. But attendance is a big problem for Serie A. The stadiums are all old and not taken care of, including the San Siro. Then there is hype. Hype boosts attendance but apart from the Roman newspapers and broadcasters no one hypes up the league. Instead everyone's bringing it down!! They hit each other...


It has to do with taxes.

The grave problem IS the non-funding of the teams.

Milan said a year ago that they are trying to be a healty organization : Be able to stay clear of debts and not to be depending too much on Silvio. That strategy, I guess, is also has influence on our transfers.
