Nedved denies defeatism claims
Monday 18 June, 2007

Pavel Nedved has denied declaring that Juventus are unlikely to qualify for next year’s Champions League. “I never made any forecast.”

http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/jun18j.html

So, what do you think; how far can Giuve go?? I think they will fight for 3rd/4th place. They can't challenge Inter/Milan/Roma for the scudetto but let's wait for the transfer window to end first and then we'll have a better view.

Posted by: Portikins Jun 18 2007, 06:51 PM

TBH I think it's too soon to say "3rd-4th-7th-no Europe"... there are 2 months where they can build a nice squad.

I'll wait for the transfers until the 1st of the September to predict anything.

I'm curious about the centenary-buy that Moratti said. rolleyes.gif
Tévez? coff coff Riquelme? coff

Well, maybe it's Camoranesi, Porty. He's got an Argentina passport too, after all. smile.gif

Juve will go far next season. I hope they do go far, cuz they have suffered a lot in Serie B. They deserve better than the merda IMO

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Jun 19 2007, 05:45 AM

I think Juve will enter the fray as a Viola level club. I don't think they can land all the big names they dream of to be honest. And I see a very very strong challenge from Viola this season. They have reeled in some exciting talents. Also I don't see Ranieri outfoxing Prandelli. Juve to get a UEFA spot though, unless extensive injuries rip them apart.

Posted by: kurtsimonw Jun 19 2007, 07:35 AM

If Juve do manage to hold on to Trezeguet, I don't think they need to land too many players at all.

Juve do have some decent defenders, except JA Boumsong of course, he's the Worlds worst. Chiellini has looked dominant at U21 level, yes I know it's U21s, but he's made alot of players look like U12s out there.

In a stupid weird way, being relegated has helped them. Instead of loaning their young players out, they've just fielded them, not only do they gain experience, but also learn the system that Juve use.

They are my pre-season favourites to WIN the title. Obviously when the season starts alot of transfers can be made and I'll re-make my prediction. But I think they'll be right back up there. Who wouldn't with Buffon at one end and Alex at the other? wink.gif

Posted by: LaPalma Jun 19 2007, 09:58 AM

I think that Milan team will win it this year...It's about time.
I dunno about Juve...with their current team they can be happy if they qualify for the UEFA Cup, not more. But you never know which players they're going to sign in the summer.

Ranieri isn't as bad as people make out, after all, he did take mid-table Chelsea into the Champions League. This was before the Roman empire, too. wink.gif

Juve need time. They can't compete with Inter/Milan yet. Plus they have Ranieri biggrin.gif The CL spot would be a success for them.

Juventus sign Iaquinta – official

Serie B champions Juventus have completed their expected swoop for Udinese striker Vincenzo Iaquinta.

The 27-year-old has been linked with the Turin giants for some time and has today completed an £8m move.

"I believe that I am the right age to realise this dream,” said the World Cup winner. “I like pressure and I cannot wait to start this new adventure.

"I have grown up year-on-year and after seven seasons in Udine the moment has arrived to make a jump in quality.

“I now need to test myself with a challenge that only a great club like Juventus can offer, in Italy and in Europe.”

Iaquinta, who has signed a five-year contract in Turin, scored 14 goals in Serie A last term and may have been brought in to replace David Trezeguet at the club.

“He is an important player, another World Cup winner who will help to write history at this club,” noted Juventus director general Jean-Claude Blanc.

“He is a professional who we welcome and a player who will add experience and quality to a squad which is enthusiastically hoping to offer fans the satisfaction they deserve.

“There is no doubt that this is another forward step in making a competitive squad on our return to Serie A.”

Born in November 1979, Iaquinta arrives after his development at the Stadio Friuli. He has also enjoyed spells at Padova and Castel di Sangro.

Juventus are also reportedly close to signing Empoli midfielder Sergio Almiron and Gabriel Milito from Real Zaragoza

Though many would disagree with me .. He is a good striker and scores consistently. Lippi didn't just play him (at the WC) just for the hell of it. He could be one of Juve's best players

Moratti conferma Cruz

Moratti confirmed Julio Cruz stay for next season.

Question: It will be as 4th, 5th or 7th striker? rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Jun 19 2007, 02:57 PM

Try a double digit number Portyboy, after the Suazo thing...Galliani might as well have pooped on Moratti's face. Heh heh. He's gonna do something crazy...Inter will implode if they ain't careful.

Darn I want at least two more signings.

Posted by: Tennie Jun 20 2007, 03:44 PM

This is just not being Moratti's week.

The Italian press is reporting that, as a result of the overvaluation of players (remember the issue with Brunelli in January, which also involved Fester, but Fester was cleared of wrongdoing), Inter didn't have the appropriate fiscal health (the language is technical and I'm not sure enough on the language to quote details, but it has to do with the club's finances) to register in Serie A for the 2005-2006 season.

This could mean big trouble for the Merda.

Iaquinta is a poacher. He can't create much and is very slow. Here is his all time record:

271 games: 77 golas

Suazo is a SS/ ST. He is physically strong and the fastest striker in Serie A. He creates and scores. Here is his all time record:

264 games: 105 goals

You have to be either blind or biased to not realize which is the better choice.

IMHO Suazo is ten-time what Iaquinta is. But Iaquinta is like an inbox-striker. David is more a SS.

If Gila continues his 'awful' Milan career at the same level for 6 years, he'll be Milan's 5th all-time top scorer. Stats are what you make them.

So how does an awful player play 8 years and become one of the teams greatest scorers in thier history? Stats are silly.

That's so funny and so incorrect.... rolleyes.gif Stats = Facts. Especially for a striker. And you seem to know a thing or two about them as with Lampard's case. Gila has confidence struggles. He is a different example. Just like Oliveira . If Suazo can't produce the goods, he will be shipped off. Yes, I use stats alot myself, it helps put a point accross.

But a player is only as good as his most recent season, both Suazo and Iaquinta scored the same last season. More than half of Suazo's were penalties.

I do think Suazo is better for us than Iaquinta as he'll fit the team, I just don't think he's good enough.

Ah well. Everybody has their own opinion, people disagree. It'd be less entertaining if we didn't. tongue.gif

Well, Suazo is definitely a step higher in quality from Iaquinta. Still, Suazo will be coming in to replace Borriello. And is unproven in the BIG stage, will he choke ? That is my 'main' question rolleyes.gif

Is he good enough ? Well, the club already have Gilardino and Oliveira who are firing blanks for the most part of their season .. So I guess I can't be too confident this time around wink.gif But remember this, he isn't the 'star player' that Milan are after cool.gif

This thing stuck on mind the past couple of days: After our CL triumph, Carletto said that now everyone wants to join Milan. Well, it seems to me that most players are a bit reluctant to join Milan and more willing to be a part of the other part of the town, Inter!

I think this is because they see greater future for the current Inter squad than they do for Milan's... but it could only be me... unsure.gif

Official: Caracciolo Joins Sampdoria

Forward Andrea Caracciolo has officially parted ways with Palermo and moved to Sampdoria.

Sampdoria have announced Andrea Caracciolo’s arrival after losing Quagliarella to Udinese.

Caracciolo was already set to leave the Rosaneri, as his relationship with the fans and coach Francesco Guidolin had become strained, and the ex-Palermo forward has revealed that he didn’t think twice about joining the Blucerchiati (blue-ringed).

"This was not the first time that my name had been linked with Sampdoria, so it was this long-running interest that flattered me," said Caracciolo.

"When I was offered the opportunity to complete the negotiations, I took less than a second to accept.

"I am truly happy to be here. This will be a very important season for me, one where I must really prove a point.

"There are several fine players here and more will arrive. The Sampdoria project is an interesting one and convinced me immediately."

Ranieri: This is my Juve
Sunday 24 June, 2007

Claudio Ranieri discusses a trident attack, aiming for a Champions League place and why Juventus will be “a real pain for everyone.”

The former Parma and Chelsea boss will lead the Bianconeri back into Serie A after their year of purgatory in the wake of Calciopoli and he has ambitious plans for 2007-08.

“At the very least we are working towards a Champions League spot. When we met the club immediately said there was the money to bring them back to where this side was accustomed to being – as high up the table as possible. The directors kept their word,” he told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’

This week alone Juve have signed Sergio Almiron from Empoli, Lyon’s Tiago Mendes, World Cup winner Vincenzo Iaquinta, Cristian Molinaro of Siena, Piacenza’s Antonio Nocerino and Domenico Criscito from Genoa.

“Both Tiago and Almiron have the technical abilities, but also the determination and work rate needed in that midfield role. They have the personality of a leader.

“These players mix the offensive and defensive play and are also as versatile as I had requested. They’re two real Juve players and that comforts me, as the midfield is the brain of the team.”

The Tinkerman is already planning several options in his line-up for next season and the transfer campaign isn’t over yet.

“Considering their versatility we could have Almiron, Tiago and Cristiano Zanetti in a three-man midfield. Or Pavel Nedved, who can play a central role with those two.

“As for defence, I am more than covered on the left with Molinaro, who I faced at Siena and noted he guarantees great pressure down that flank, Criscito and Giorgio Chiellini. On the right I’m fine with Alessandro Birindelli and Jonathan Zebina.”

With David Trezeguet refusing the latest contract extension, the shape of the Juventus attack is up in the air.

“Why can’t Iaquinta play alongside Alessandro Del Piero and maybe even Trezeguet? I am curious to see what the pre-season period will tell me,” explained Ranieri.

“I have been tracking Iaquinta for six years and complimented him after a friendly between Udinese and Chelsea, as even if he was a little rough, you could see he had the characteristics of a great player.

“In fact, now he is a World Cup winner. I like him because he never gives in and fights for every ball. This is the Juve spirit of the warrior that we need.”

The ultimate Bianconeri fighter is Nedved, but next week the player will announce whether he’ll retire or continue playing for another year.

“Like everyone, I hope he’ll stay. He suffered in Serie B, so why should he not take this team in hand and lead them back into Serie A? I think he will continue, as he is like those batteries that never run out of charge.”

There are reports this weekend that Juventus have approached Fabio Cannavaro to tempt him back to Turin after a year at Real Madrid. Ranieri’s comments on their future transfer plans suggest this is the case.

“We haven’t finished yet, as we are still missing something in defence,” explained the Coach.

“A central defender needs to be a leader, someone who commands the area, has the tactical intelligence to point the way and allow the other defenders to be aggressive.”

The current World and European Player of the Year certainly seems to fit the bill.

Roma rage over Inter-Chivu talks
Sunday 24 June, 2007

After the David Suazo chaos, Inter have again been accused of an illegal approach, this time to Roma’s Cristian Chivu.

It is well known that the Nerazzurri are interested in the defender, but Barcelona are close to a deal – according to Spanish newspaper ‘Marca’ with the official announcement coming on Monday – and a new saga could develop.

‘Marca’ insist that the Romanian will move to the Nou Camp in exchange for £8m plus Ludovic Giuly.

Today ‘Il Romanista’ alleges that Coach Roberto Mancini telephoned Chivu personally to convince him to choose Inter instead.

This infuriated the Giallorossi, who have already felt the burn of these unorthodox transfer techniques this season.

“Roma will never go behind another club’s back,” stated general manager Rosella Sensi.

“Roma have chosen a professional approach and will stick with it right to the end. Inter have chosen another and we respect their decision.”

It is claimed that if Chivu does turn down the move to Barcelona in order to join Inter, then Sensi will report them to the FIGC and FIFA for an illegal approach.

There was a hint of this problem earlier this weekend, when transfer guru Ernesto Bronzetti revealed the background to the negotiations with Barcelona.

“Roma thanked Barcelona for not going directly to the player first,” he told ‘Radio Radio.’

It would be the second time the Nerazzurri have been involved in controversy for contacting players under contract this summer.

Cagliari already revealed that Roma had asked after Suazo back in February, but had kept their promise to the club not to contact him directly until the campaign had concluded.

“Roma were the side who requested Suazo in February and I asked them not to contact the player, as I was afraid it would distract him,” revealed Cellino on ‘Radio Radio.’

“They waited until the end of the season and acted in a very professional manner, but Suazo already had a deal with Inter. Unfortunately, the respect Roma showed me could well have penalised them.”

That same technique created chaos after Milan agreed a £10m transfer with Cagliari for the player, only for them to back out several days later upon realising he had already signed for their San Siro rivals.

Inter are also in the headlines after an investigation was launched into their financial practices, alleging the club was not stable enough to qualify for the 2005-06 season.

Today financial newspaper ‘Il Sole 24 Ore’ claims that the Nerazzurri have the worst economic problems in Serie A, running at a loss of £122m this year.

The debt is covered by an increase in capital performed by oil baron Massimo Moratti and the shareholders.

Juventus ran at a loss of £24m following their demotion to Serie B and the consequent loss of several sponsorship contracts.

Of the ‘big’ clubs only Milan made a profit at £1.6m thanks to the £30m sale of Andriy Shevchenko to Chelsea.

In Serie A the healthiest finances belonged to Udinese, who ended up with a profit of £4.4m.

thats true but at the same time one of the main reasons we won was because of the signings during the winter, and i'm not too sure our season would have ended if it wasnt for them. we were playing horribly so ronaldo and oddo were big boosts. yes they prooved a point but "once saved, always saved" doesnt apply here because things can change very quickly. besides changes are a normal part of any team whether they are winning or losing.

Adriano has reiterated his desire to stay at Internazionale, but also revealed that if he did leave, then he would remain in Italy.

The Brazilian striker has been strongly linked with a move away from Inter after going through a difficult campaign with the Nerazzurri.

However, Inter supremo Massimo Moratti is keen for Adriano to stay and he looks set to remain.

"If Inter agree I would like to stay at the San Siro, I consider Inter my home," Adriano told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"If they were to sell me? I would set only one condition, I want to stay in Italy. I would accept their decision, but I would also ask to decide my next destination.

"In any case, I want to stay here because Moratti has faith in me and I want to prove him right."

Livorno grab Dhorasoo

After agreeing a deal for Francesco Tavano and Fausto Rossini, Livorno have also captured ex-Milan midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo.

President Aldo Spinelli had hinted at the next big signing in an interview with ‘La Repubblica’ newspaper this morning.

“A very strong midfielder of great prestige. There are too many vultures circling, so I can only confirm he is a famous French international.”

Now the media in Italy claim that man is Dhorasoo, a former Olympique Lyonnais and Milan player.

Although he featured in the 2006 World Cup for losing Finalists France, Dhorasoo was out of contract after he was sensationally sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in September.

The midfielder was booted out of the club for calling Coach Guy Lacombe “a liar” and has also launched vitriolic attacks on French boss Raymond Domenech.

This would be his return to Serie A after an unsuccessful season at Milan, where he made just 12 appearances in 2004-05.

During his time on the sidelines, Dhorasoo was linked with Bolton, Lyon, Parma and had a trial with Fulham.

Livorno have also reportedly signed Juventus youngster Francesco Volpe on a co-ownership deal after the striker returned from a loan spell at Ravenna.

It has been an exhilarating week for the Amaranto, who also picked up Tavano from Valencia and hitman Rossini from Catania.

“For Tavano we worked in silence and the news only leaked out once everything had already been signed, otherwise he would have been snatched away,” added President Spinelli.

“He is the ideal player to replace Igor Protti and partner Cristiano Lucarelli. We have finally found a Number 10 worthy of Protti.”

You guys remember him rolleyes.gif

He was pretty impressive for PSG too, but he is probably in his mid 30's .. I used to like him, he was a great sub. Never complained, and when he was on the field, he was always full of energy and a great team player.

Tevez No Longer A Target, Chivu A Possibility – Moratti

Inter president Massimo Moratti has confirmed that the Nerazzurri will not be signing Carlos Tevez this summer.

Moratti is a known admirer of the West Ham striker, but the club’s signing of Cagliari star David Suazo has ended their interest in the Argentinian.

"Tevez is no longer a target, we are fine as we are in attack," Moratti confirmed.

Moratti went on to speak about AS Roma defender Cristian Chivu who the club are battling with Barcelona to sign.

"Is today the day for Chivu? They have been saying for two weeks that it's the day for Chivu, but I won't be meeting Rosella Sensi (Roma general manager) today," Moratti said.

"Talks are still open and Inter are ready to make their best offer. If it goes well we will be happy; if not, we're fine as we are. But Roma have to want to sell him first. No one is going to snatch him away.

"There are various clubs interested in the player, the one who makes the best offer will bring him home. We can all want things, but there are always economic limits.

"I will speak to Dr Sensi on the phone, and then we will see, but there's still a month and a half of the transfer market to go, and the Chivu matter is not tremendously urgent for us."

It's much better for us that thay have Suazo than Tevez.

Tevez 'turns down' Inter
28 Jun 2007

West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez appears to be leaning towards staying in the Premier League after declining to meet Internazionale's deadline.

Tevez is weighing up his club future and has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Inter and Real Madrid.

Inter had expressed an interest in signing the Argentine, but president Massimo Moratti revealed earlier on Thursday that Tevez was 'no longer an objective'.

According to the forward's representative Kia Joorabchian, Inter had set a deadline for the player to make a decision on a move to the Serie A champions.

Joorabchian admits Tevez was not willing to meet that demand, particularly as he seems keen to stay in English football.

"Inter put a deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the Premier League, so he was not prepared to meet that cut-off point," said Joorabchian in a statement.

Tevez, who has yet to rule out staying at West Ham next season, is currently in Venezuela on Copa America duty with the Argentine national team.

Joorabchian also dismissed suggestions that Tevez has been offered a £100,000-a-week contract to stay at Upton Park.

He added: "He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true we are still talking and hope to come to some arrangement."

Serie A dates revealed

The Lega Calcio has released the schedule for Serie A next term – and there’s bad news for Roberto Donadoni and the Azzurri.

The FIGC had originally asked for the campaign to begin on August 19 to help the Italy squad to prepare for the crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers against France on September 8 and Ukraine on September 12.

However, Donadoni and Co’s request fell on deaf ears and it has been decided that the big kick-off will be on August 26 instead.

There will also be no midweek rounds between the end of October and the end of February, as asked for by the Italian Players’ Association.

The Italian Super Cup Final between Scudetto winners Inter and Coppa Italia holders Roma will be played at the Stadio Meazza on August 19.

Sneijder Close To Fiorentina Move  sad.gif

The Ajax player is set to join the Viola according to 'Firenzeviola.it' after the midfielder had asked the Dutch side to be transferred.

Fiorentina could be making another important signing in the next few hours as Wesley Sneijder is set to join the Tuscan side according to the latest transfer speculation.

The highly technical midfielder, who had asked for a transfer in the past weeks, was on the short list of the Viola for a long time, and finally Fiorentina have decided to go for him and try to sign him up.

Ajax are asking for 12 million Euros for the player, whose contract expires in two years' time.

The player was on the verge of signing for Valencia, but these latest transfer speculations seem to indicate that the player is set for a Fiorentina move.

This could be an excellent move by the Della Valle club as he would further reinforce Cesare Prandelli's midfield line, the coach having made no secret of the fact that the Viola are targeting a Champions League spot this season.

Chivu opens Inter door

Friday 6 July, 2007 ::: channel4.com

Roma defender Cristian Chivu’s future is still in the balance after his agent revealed he is considering Inter.

Despite approaches from the Beneamata and Barcelona, the Romanian stopper appeared to have chosen to move to the Bernabeu when the Giallorossi agreed a £13m deal with the Spanish champions.

However, contract negotiations with Real fell through and the ex-Ajax star is considering his options once more with Inter back in the frame.

“We spoke to Roma director of sport Daniele Prade’ and now the Giallorossi know that Cristian doesn’t intend to join Barcelona or Real Madrid,” agent Giovanni Becali stated.

Chivu is now believed to be weighing up whether he should join the Nerazzurri or stay put until his contract expires in June 2008. Then he can leave on a Bosman, allowing him to demand a higher signing on fee.

The 26-year-old’s wage request has taken Real by surprise and President Ramon Calderon is pondering his next move.

“We’re having to give the Chivu transfer serious thought because the demands are much higher than we had expected,” he admitted.

Meanwhile, Spanish newspaper Marca could be facing legal action after printing reports that Inter chief Massimo Moratti has already paid £1m to agents in the deal.

What a pig Moratti is. Nobody pays directly some millions to the agent, just the fee he gets from the transfer BUT NO, Moratti PAID him some millions to convince Chivu Inter is a better option than Barcelona or Madrid.

Posted by: Tennie Jul 6 2007, 10:13 PM

There are reports out that the Zebras have reached agreement with Deportivo for the transfer of Portuguese centerback Jorge Andrade. The deal's said to be in the 10m or so range. Andrade is quite good.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Jul 6 2007, 10:16 PM

A good defender .. He would do well in Juve.

Posted by: Tennie Jul 6 2007, 10:33 PM

I think so too. I'm really glad he seems to have recovered from that knee injury that kept him sidelined for months.

In other Zebra news, there seem to be problems between Nedved and the club and this is why Nedved hasn't renewed. According to his lawyer, it isn't a question of money, playing time, or anything like that: it's a matter of rapport with the Juve management.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Jul 7 2007, 01:19 AM

Milito is also very closely linked to the Bianconari .. Milito and Andrade would be a leap in quality for Juve's backline ..

They are really working to get the team back on it's feet. Now hopefully they can take 6 points off of Inter for us biggrin.gif

Anyway...this is more gossipy than anything else, but a couple of Italian sources are reporting that Nedved's contract renewal talks with the Zebras have completely broken down and that the Merda have started showing an interest in signing him.

FRED SET FIOR ITALY

IT'S ALL over for Freddie Ljungberg at Arsenal - but he must take a £30,000 a week pay cut to join Fiorentina.

Swedish midfielder Ljungberg, 30, who is on £60,000 a week at Arsenal, will follow Thierry Henry out of the door as Arsene Wenger prepares a big shake-up of his squad.

Italian giants Fiorentina have agreed a £5m deal with Arsenal and offered Ljungberg a four-year deal worth £30,000 a week.

AdvertisementIt would mean a 50 per cent pay cut for a player desperate to stay at Arsenal, but who has been told he has no future at the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester City last night made a new enquiry about the midfielder after they realised he was on his way, while Sunderland have also been in contact. But Ljungberg now seems sure to quit the Premier League for Florence.

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino and club president Sandro Mencucci were last night locked in talks with Ljungberg and his agent Claes Elfalk. It is a massive personal blow to Ljungberg, told by Wenger in January to start hunting for a new club because he had become a bit-part player due to his catalogue of injuries.

Arsenal last night unveiled their latest new signing, Bakari Sagna. The 24-year-old defender, pictured at the Emirates stadium following a medical, arrived from Auxerre for around £7.5m. The Gunners have beaten off strong competition from all over Europe to get their man - and it is a major success for Wenger, who has signed him despite uncertainty about his own future.

The Frenchman is also close to signing Caen's young striker Yoan Gouffran biggrin.gif , who is likely to join Arsenal and then be loaned back to the French club for a year.

The Gunners are also chasing Newcastle's Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins, who has a £13m buy-out clause in his contract. Martins is understood to be very receptive to the move and Wenger believes he can make up for the loss of Henry to Barcelona.

Arsenal have already signed Croatian international Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb for £8m.

And Wenger has been given substantial cash to spend by the Gunners board.

That should help appease disquiet among Arsenal fans following Henry's departure, the imminent departure of Ljungberg plus the power struggle which saw the departure of former vice-chairman David Dein.

Arsenal is getting weaker, and for now only trying to replace guys like Henry and Freddie with young and inexperience players.

If Birmingham would beat Villa and finish before them in the table then it's enough for me. It won't be that hard. Last year Villa took 11 place with 'empires' like Reading and Portsmouth finish higher wink.gif

I'm almost certain we won't have an awful '2 wins in 18 games' streak in the middle of the season. This year, without that we'd have been top 6, no question. wink.gif

About Arsenal, it's very poor management, you can't replace Bergkamp, Vieira, Pires, Henry and Ljungberg with young players. Fabregas will never be Vieira, and he's one of their brighter youngsters. The way they're going, they will be a long way off the pace for many years to come.

Juventus Win Scudetto...Of The Fans

The 'Gazzetta dello Sport' reported the results of a recent survey in Italian football where it emerged that the Bianconeri are the most followed team in the peninsula.

Not even the demotion to Serie B football pushed the Old Lady's fans away, as according to the latest survey about fans, which has been reported by the 'Gazzetta dello Sport', the Juve supporters have 17.4% of the Italian population siding with them.

In second place we find Milan with 12.4% and then Inter with 11%. The rest of the teams are far away, with Napoli finishing in fourth place but with just a bit more than half of the Nerazzurri fans.

According to this survey, Inter has the highest number of fans between the ages of 45 and 54 years, probably due to the 'Grande Inter' of the 1960s.

On the other hand, Milan has the highest number of young fans, under the 24 years of age, due to the triumphs of the Rossoneri in the past 20 years king.gif

One curious fact is that the team which has been most abandoned by its supporters is Inter, which is probably due to the club failing to win a lot in the past 20 years biggrin.gif

The Juve players have a very curious method for renegotiating their contracts. First there was Trezeguet with his hand gesture and tantrum. Then there was Nedved with his accusation of the management not respecting him.

Now there's Chiellini, who went on a major rant about the club not respecting players who stayed with the club when they were in Serie B, how he wants to feel he's 'important' and that if the club doesn't want to show respect (presumably by guaranteeing a startind spot), he'd be happy to go to Liverpool. LIVERPOOL.

Ranieri has called Chiellini's outburst childish, but...you've got to wonder wtf is going on in Turin with three quality players having serious issues with the management. Are the Agnelli family THAT tight-fisted?

Problem it's that Juventus miss a big leader behind the club since Gianni Agnelli.

Now with the Elkann's (Agnelli's grandsons) it's not the same. Gianni was their "Silvio Berlusconi". He loved Juventus. Lapo and John Elkann no.

Posted by: Tennie Jul 18 2007, 01:16 AM

I miss Gianni Agnelli. I always thought of him as a Serie A equivalent of Vito Corleone - the benevolent dictator sort who took care of his family. It's unfortunate for Juve if they really are managing to alienate all these players and it isn't just a ploy by players/agents for more money.

Paparesta: Punished Because I Did Not Help Juventus

The referee spoke to the prosecuting attorneys on the 7th of June and revealed how he was suspended for a whole month following a Coppa Italia final match which hindered the Bianconeri.

In the Calciopoli investigations, referee Gianluca Paparesta told the prosecuting attorneys Filippo Beatrice and Giuseppe Narducci about when he was suspended for a whole month by Bergamo, just because he did not favour Juventus in the second leg final of the Coppa Italia final which ended in a 2-2 result and helped Lazio win the trophy.

"I was convinced, and still am, that the reasons for my forced period of inactivity are due to the fact that I did not guarantee favours to Juve in that match and, on the contrary according to others, I damaged them."

Paparesta also went to explain why his father, former referee Romeo Paparesta, received mobile phones and SIM cards. According to the Italian international referee, Luciano Moggi wanted a help to have duties in the designation sector.

Adriano: My alcohol nightmare

Adriano has revealed the reason for his excessive partying and how Massimo Moratti helped him out of this nightmare. “I will repay Inter.”

Once considered potentially the greatest striker in the world, the last two years have seen L’Imperatore spend more time making headlines in the gossip columns than the sport section.

“I miss my father so much. He died in the summer of 2004, but it seemed as if my mind only registered his absence some time later,” he explained to the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’

“I hadn’t seen him die, so when I returned to Italy to play, it felt like in a certain sense he was still here with us. I started suffering when I went to Brazil for my holidays. He wasn’t there and I so wanted to be with him.”

That was the start of a spiral that took Adriano further and further away from a stable home life, something he in fact craved.

“I argued with my girlfriend Daniela, who was expecting my son, and started to go to nightclubs and bars. Above all I tried to wash away all my problems with alcohol.

“I drank a lot and couldn’t help go out at night. I had to, otherwise I couldn’t sleep at all. It became impossible for me to stay at home. I felt so alone.”

The Brazilian fell badly out of form, gained weight and was excluded from the Nerazzurri side after a row with Coach Roberto Mancini.

He seemed set to leave Inter for Real Madrid, but President Moratti never lost faith in his favourite hitman.

“I looked into my son’s eyes on his birthday and all the clouds disappeared. I realised we had to get back together and be a family again. Today I have rediscovered my family, my girlfriend and my responsibilities,” continued Adriano.

“This is what gives me the certainty I can give back to Moratti everything I took away from him in this period. I must thank him for the patience he had with me.

“It is wonderful to know that, especially in the most difficult moments, your President still counts on you. He was at times tough with me, but never let me feel alone. I will repay him, not just with goals, but with effort, hard work and sweat.”

Hope he'll fully recover.

He played yesterday in their pre-season with the first team and scored. It's their best kid out there. Ribas, Maaroufi, Fautario, Slavkovski and Andreolli are the other top young talents in Inter.

Matrix: Emerson not welcome

Tuesday 24 July, 2007 ::: channel4.com

Marco Materazzi says that he does not want Emerson to join Inter after the Brazilian’s statements dating to last year.

El Puma is a reported target for the Nerazzurri with both fellow countryman Adriano and Coach Roberto Mancini stating their admiration for the midfielder.

“I don’t want him here, last year he insulted Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira because they had chosen Inter and now he wants to do the same,” Materazzi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I don’t like this attitude, I would prefer it if he returned to Juventus,” added the world champion.

Emerson had criticised his former teammates, as he believed their move to Inter represented a betrayal, and had stated that he could "never do such a thing to Juve.”

However, Materazzi is ready to greet Cristian Chivu, who he hopes will soon join the Italian champions, and is pleased with President Massimo Moratti’s new signings so far.

“I am happy for David Suazo’s arrival, we needed a man just like him upfront. Luis Jimenez? He is the new Stankovic,”
he concluded.

At least Matrix has the guts to say that. And I agree: Emerson should go to Juve.

Adriano calls for Emerson

Tuesday 24 July, 2007 ::: channel4.com

Inter striker Adriano has declared that he would be glad to welcome fellow Brazilian Emerson to the San Siro.

The Real Madrid midfielder has been heavily paired with a move to Milan over the past few months, but has recently become a target for Nerazzurri Coach Roberto Mancini as well.

“I hope he comes here, as well as Cristian Chivu, they are two great players,” Adriano told Sky Italia.

“I really hope Emerson joins the team. This decision is obviously up to Mancini and President Massimo Moratti, but it would be a pleasure for us to have him here,” added the Emperor.

Adriano hopes to make up for his disappointing form last season, when he mainly hit the headlines for his behaviour off the pitch, and is confident that he will prove his true value.

“I must work hard and have a healthier life style. The past year and a half was very difficult for me, but now it’s over. I am happy,” he explained.

“I want to win back the heart of our supporters. I promise I will live a normal life and will train well, I must work hard during the week.

“Mancini has always told me that if I train well, I can play a good match on the Sunday,” concluded Adriano.

apparently chivu will be an inter player tonight or tomorrow. we have 0 chance of winning serie a. inter were by far the best team last year and have gotten better since. we on the other hand have done nothing and will be lucky to make couple of signings and even if we get pato he isnt going to make an impact.

Even if we buy 1 of: Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Fred, Shevchenko, Drogba, Cavani, Quagliarella, Cassano... Inter will still have the best squad. By far: better, stronger, younger and with more options.

Now they sold the bluff that was Grosso and will get a world-class LB/CB like Chivu.
Suazo will add pace to their attack, so as Jimenez. Not even talk about depth in Inter squad... rolleyes.gif

Probably they'll get 1 or 2 more until the market close.

PS: Pato is going to be 18 in September. He isn't an option for the first 11. Quite obvious. Nor in Milan, nor Madrid, nor Inter.

how did they do in last seasons CL?

They might have a strong squad but that doesn't aways equal a great team. This coming season will be very interesting indeed as all teams will start equally and the Serie A will be stronger with the Likes of Juve and Napoli.

how did they do in last seasons CL?

CL is 12 matches for a big team. A league is about 40. And the CL is not every week...

That means what? We've a first 11 as good as Inter or any other team in the world. The problem is that we've 14-15 good players. Inter have 22 or 23. That's the difference: depth.

I know Inter is not the usual example... they're the team with more options for each place, in Europe. Probably only Chelsea, Madrid and Liverpool have a good number of players for each place that can be compared to Inter.

Milan, ManUtd, Barcelona, Valencia have great 11's. As great as or even beter than the ones above but if they've "a Kaka'", "a Ronaldinho", "a C.Ronaldo", "a David Villa" injuried... they've no options in the bench for that level.

In the other hand, if Chelsea has Lampard injuried they've Ballack. If Madrid have Raúl with a problem, Saviola gets in. Liverpool with Gerrard out? Alonso, Mascherano, Lucas Leiva [amazing young talent] and Sissoko are more than enough for the center-midfield. Inter have problems with Adriano? Suazo, Cruz, Crespo...

That's the difference.

Posted by: I_Rossoneri Jul 24 2007, 10:50 PM

If they have such a great team why did they suck in the CL, in fact they always suck in the CL - like Juve, perhaps there's a link wink.gif

Ibrahimovic Calls Emerson

The Swedish forward declared that he is expecting Emerson to join Inter.

Earlier today, Inter defender Marco Materazzi told the press that he is opposed to an eventual arrival of Real Madrid’s Emerson, as the stopper has accused the Brazilian midfielder of having criticized those players who moved to Inter after Juventus were relegated to Serie B.

However, Ibrahimovic has contradicted Materazzi’s statement, claiming that he is expecting Emerson to wear the nerazzurri shirt alongside Roma’s Christian Chivu.

“I am awaiting both Emerson and Chivu to come here and I believe that Adriano will be on top form very soon,” said the Swedish forward.

At last, Ibrahimovic spoke about Inter’s upcoming season and revealed his aim to win the golden ball award.

“This year we are first in line to win the scudetto. At the same time, though, I also want to win the Champions League and the golden ball award. My contract? I am absolutely ready to pen a contract renewal. I will stay at Inter for a long time, me and Moratti already have agreed to that.”

So now it's Zlatan + Adriano vs. Materazzi. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

look i dont see where CL comes in to play because we are taking about the scudetto race. there are many great teams that dont go far in CL. werent chelsea and man u much better than liverpool yet pool made the finals and they dint. dint inter pick us to pieces last year? the fact of the matter is inter are better than us no question about it. we had easy draws early (a joke of a group, celtic and bayern were the weakest knockout opp besides PSV) compared to the rest then against man u and liverpool we stepped up but that was 3 games!! not a whole season of 38-40 games which inter prooved themselves. and i can assure you it's going to be 10X harder this year to defend our title now that everyone wants a piece of us and thats considering if we get easy draws again. what we lacked in 04/05 and 05/06 was mainly depth, we did well in the big games and always screwed up against the lesser teams and that trend will continue with this team if we dont do something. and juve have been in what 3-4 finals in the past 15 years one of which we won in a lottery shoutout? i wouldnt call that sucking because you have to be good to make it to that many finals and in the end you do need luck.

And to be honest, you can't get more 'historic' in England than Villa, we were winning FA Cups and League titles before any of the teams you mentioned even existed. wink.gif

Then Nike have the likes of Barca, Inter, Juventus, PSV, Boca, Corinthians, Dortmund, PSG, Porto, Athletico and Valencia. All great clubs, mostly with great history.

I've always been more of a Nike fan, Villa just gives me more reason. I hope Milan do go Nike at some point, their kits would be much better!

FT in Old Trafford: Manchester 'Hyped' United 2-3 Inter

-I think the result was OK. Inter have a much better squad than them. If they were playing "for real" Inter would have hammered them.

-Suazo-Ibrahimovic partnership is working good.

-United simply don't know how to play in 4-3-3. Why do the cnuts keep trying? They always get fvcked.

-Adriano... I dunno. A disgrace. That "kid" needs something. He'll be the 4th or 5th choice at Inter this season: Zlatan, Suazo, Crespo, Cruz?, Adriano.

Laursen, statistically, was the best defender in the EPL last season. wink.gif
(Lowest goals against while he's playing, and Villa never lost last season while he played).

They play alot more like Bolton in my opinion. They have the 'big guy' up front in Mark Viduka with quicker players like Martins/Milner/N'Zogbia around him. Fighters in the centre of midfield with Butt/Emre/Barton. So I think we'll be seeing the typical Sam Allerdyce way of play. rolleyes.gif

I saw the last 5 mins and it looks like the Referees were kinda biased to Juventus.
There was a chance where Roma couldve scored but was ruled offside, even though it was CLEARLY not offside.

FT 5-2 for Giuve!!

Came from 0-2 down: Vucinic, Mexes, Trez, Trez / Iaquinta, Del Piero, Zalayeta

It was a good game but no concrete conclusions can be made. No one can't say it will be like that in the championship. Especially for Roma. I hope they won't miss Chivu this season as much as they did tonight. And Panucci is not a CB, he never was. Let's see if Juan can cover the Romanian's loss... I think he's a very good player! Roma were also without De Rossi and Perotta, two vital members of their army...

Roma dominated the first half hour of the game until Giuve decided to turn it on. That's when Totti was lost and the Giallorossi were cut in half. Aquilani was left all alone to create something... Giuve were playing all alone from that moment on... Roma was no threat without Mancini and with Totti "absent" up front!

Biggest surprise was Almirón! The greatest for Giuve in my view. He settled in well and pretty fast. Criscito was very good too but like I said he didn't have much to do. If anyone reads this at Milan: please get us Aquilani!!!

Of course we had a sequel: Bimbo Fight 2: The Return... those two were kicking and pushing each other in every occasion. Nedved must be the most hated player in the league (by rights I must say)! The match was not really a friendly anyway... 6 or 7 yellow cards and numerous hard tackles... thankfully nobody was injured! And there was also this fan that jumped in the stadium and gave Totti a really warm and tense hug! Maybe Porty can tell in which lane he drives his car... tongue.gif

Zanetti doesn’t fear ‘Dinho
Monday 13 August, 2007

Inter captain Javier Zanetti has claimed that the Nerazzurri would be Scudetto favourites even if Milan were to sign Ronaldinho.

There are still rumours around the peninsula that the Rossoneri are preparing one final swoop before the start of the season, despite assurances from officials at the club that they have completed their business for the summer.

However, after an impressive transfer campaign that has seen the arrival of Honduran hitman David Suazo and Romanian defensive star Cristian Chivu, Zanetti believes his side should fear no-one.

“Suazo is a formidable player and he knows Serie A very well, so he can trouble everyone,” he told Il Giornale.

“Chivu has experience despite his youth and will also do really well. He is important because the defence comes first and then you build a winning side around that.

“Milan have 20 days left to make a move and they might, but I wouldn’t be scared even if Ronaldinho arrived – we are inferior to nobody.”

To conclude, the Beneamata’s fifth most loyal player - with 389 appearances – was asked his opinion on the growing number of foreigners playing in Italy.

“I don’t see that the influx of stranieri is weakening the game here,” the Argentine insisted.

“It annoys me when people accuse us of not loving the Inter shirt just because we aren’t Italian.”

Capello sees Inter double
Monday 13 August, 2007

Ex-Juventus boss Fabio Capello has tipped Inter to clinch the Scudetto and Champions League, with Milan their main Serie A rivals.

The ex-Real Madrid tactician is the latest expert to back the Beneamata to continue their dominance of the Italian game and doesn’t see his ex-club Juve as ready to challenge.

“Inter are ready to win the double,” he told the Press. “Their rivals in Serie A will be Milan and in the Champions League it will be Barcelona. As for the best signing of pre-season, that would have to be Roma for Ludovic Giuly.”

Capello was bitterly unlucky to be dismissed by Real in the summer despite winning the La Liga title.

The 61-year-old has now returned to Italy to work as a pundit on TV channel RAI after reportedly refusing offers from Russia and the US and maintains that he isn’t itching for a return a Serie A bench.

“I don’t want to be a club Coach again,” he revealed. “It would have to be a really amazing opportunity to change my mind.”

Meanwhile, rumours surfaced today in the peninsula that Spanish giants Valencia saw a £10m bid for Adriano refused by Inter President Massimo Moratti earlier in June.

Bianchi: Serie A still Number One

Rolando Bianchi looks forward to the Manchester derby, but insists, “Serie A is the best League in the world.”

The former Reggina hitman has had a splendid start to his career at Eastlands, scoring on his Premier League debut in a 2-0 victory away to West Ham United.

This afternoon he hopes to continue that run against rivals Manchester United, even if he is already noticing major differences between playing in Italy and England.

“It is the derby, but the atmosphere is different compared to Italy. The people don’t stop you in the street, as they live and let live, so the passion and rivalry is only felt inside the stadium. Here the pressure comes from the media, who really talk up the clash with United,” he told the ‘Corriere dello Sport.’

“It is wonderful to score on my debut, but that is not enough. I don’t want to be a flash in the pan in England, I am eager to leave my mark.

“Clearly I miss Serie A, which remains the best League in the world, but the Premiership is a great stage for me to show my worth.”

By Bianchi’s own admission, he only accepted the £8.8m move to Manchester City because “I was disappointed by the kind of offers I received from Italian clubs.”

Despite scoring 18 goals in Serie A last season and having a good start in Sven Goran Eriksson’s side, Bianchi has still not received a call for the senior Italy squad.

“It is a great dream of mine. I have a lot of work to do and the competition for places upfront is incredible.

"It is good for the Nazionale that we have so many talented forwards, so I believe it will be motivating for everyone. I want to leave my mark at Manchester City so I can earn a spot in the Azzurri.”

Moratti: Who needs Pato?

Inter lost out to rivals Milan on the signature of Alexandre Pato, but Massimo Moratti assures he prefers Mario Balotelli.

The Brazilian teenager was a prime target for Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona before the Rossoneri snapped him up for £10m.

“We didn’t really need him,” noted patron Moratti in the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’

“In recent months we had relaxed our interest in Pato for three reasons. First, it was a big investment and I didn’t feel like it.

“Second, Pato would have taken away space from a youth product who is doing formidably well – Balotelli. And third the Brazilian is not yet 18, he has a lot to prove. We have immediate objectives and so focus on players with experience.”

Balotelli has impressed in the pre-season friendlies so far. A family in Palermo raised the Ghanaian-born striker and at the age of 17 he is already 6’2”.

However, with Adriano left in the stands as a tactical choice for tonight’s Italian Super Cup clash with Roma, how much space can Balotelli realistically expect to have?

“Adriano is still a potential superstar and can be the decisive man. He needs to find himself again and get back to what he does best. He will struggle for a while to find a place in the side, but if he returns to the player he was three seasons ago, Inter will have a devastating extra weapon. I am counting on it.”

Yet Moratti is already looking elsewhere for more attacking players to bolster his squad – Barcelona’s Leo Messi.

“It is true that negotiating deals in Spain is more difficult by the different taxation laws, but it is also the case that some players have made that move. It depends on how much one wants to invest huge amounts,” explained the oil baron.

“At this moment in time Messi is not a priority, as I am very happy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is a complete player, a model professional and a striker who can yet improve. Messi is still very young.”

The crowded front line is set to be reduced a little by Alvaro Recoba, who is looking at other options for this season.

He has been linked with Napoli, Torino and Sampdoria, but recent newspaper reports had him in talks with Juventus.

“I haven’t heard from Chino yet and we will meet next week, as I want to understand what his intentions are. He is the one making the decision and it is precisely because of that I am certain he will not wear the jersey of our rivals.”

What a moron. If Moratti says it's a bad investment then we definitely did a right thing. rolleyes.gif

Vieira: I hate Materazzi

Sunday 19 August, 2007 ::: channel4.com

Patrick Vieira may be Marco Materazzi’s Inter teammate, but that doesn’t mean they’re friends. “I will never sit at a table with him.”

The furore over that infamous Zinedine Zidane head butt has flared up again ahead of the September 8 Euro 2008 qualifier with France.

Above all, now Matrix has finally revealed what he said to spark off that reaction from the former Juventus star, Vieira has rushed to Zizou’s defence.

“I think Materazzi is a great player who had an excellent World Cup and scored a goal in the Final,” said Vieira in an interview on French television TF1.

“There are those who love him and those who hate him. I will only say that, as far as I am concerned, I will never sit at a dinner table with him.”

Considering the two players have been teammates at Inter for a year and won the Scudetto together, that is an extremely damning statement to give to the Press.

The ex-Arsenal legend also had problems in the past with another Nerazzurri figure, assistant manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, but seems to have put that behind him.

France boss Raymond Domenech, who has been called by UEFA to provide proof of his allegations that Italy “bought the referee” in an Under-21 match in 1999, cranked up the tension further.

“That story has made a lot of noise over there,” Vieira told the French media. “They are trying to increase the tension because this game on September 8 is very important to them. It’s more decisive for Italy than France, as they absolutely cannot afford to lose.”

The two sides are battling for the leadership of Group B and a victory would catapult the Azzurri to the top spot.

“We must remain concentrated on the field and not think about anything else. I am not surprised they chose San Siro as the venue, this is a mythical stadium where there will be 80,000 fans.”

Chiellini faces unsure future
Wednesday 22 August, 2007

Unsettled Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini is in limbo just days before the start of the Serie A season as the Old Lady await a suitable offer.

The talented Tuscan sees his future away from Turin after a fraught summer that saw the 23-year-old argue with new boss Claudio Ranieri.

Chiellini has been regularly linked with Manchester City and there have also been rumours that Liverpool have made an approach, but no side has matched Juve’s asking price.

Now, with Juve preparing to start the season at home to Livorno on Saturday, Chiellini’s agent Davide Lippi – son of World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi - has explained that his client has fallen victim to his own value.

“There have been offers, but they haven’t reached the figure that Juventus have put on him,” Lippi explained.

“So all we can do is wait for a development, but at present there is no news. It is clear that the club rate him very highly and we expect them to treat him as they should.”

Ranieri looks likely to select Chiellini for the season opener and there is a strong possibility that the left-back’s future lies with the Bianconeri.

Materazzi out until 2008?
Thursday 23 August, 2007

Fears over Azzurri defender Marco Materazzi are growing with reports that he may be sidelined until the New Year.

Materazzi was stretchered off in Wednesday night’s friendly against Hungary after an opposition player fell on top of him.

The severity of the injury didn’t become clear until the 34-year-old lost consciousness and began vomitting on the sidelines.

The main problem is a ruptured vein in his thigh muscle which has occurred as a result of internal bleeding following a serious trauma.

While initial reports suggested that the ex-Perugia man may be out for around three weeks, it now seems that he faces a much longer road to recovery.

“It’s tough to give a good diagnosis at this stage, but we hope to get him back before 2008,” Azzurri doctor Andrea Ferretti revealed. “Maybe his return will be a Christmas present.”

Materazzi’s injury is yet another headache for troubled Italy boss Roberto Donadoni who saw his side mauled 3-1 in Budapest.

I have a feeling Italy won't qualify from their group (just like after 1982 WC). They are playing really bad and it seems like Donadoni can't motivate them. Plus they have some tough games to play and I can't see them winning away in Ukraine with such ability.

I have a feeling Italy won't qualify from their group (just like after 1982 WC). They are playing really bad and it seems like Donadoni can't motivate them. Plus they have some tough games to play and I can't see them winning away in Ukraine with such ability.

I dont think so, Canna was clearly at fault for two of the goals and Italy made an equally pathetic start to last season. Match fitness is crucial, and im sure in the end they will sort themselves out
