Roma vs AC Milan

Serie A 2007/08 - Week 28

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Stadio Olimpico

Time : 19.30 (UK); 20:30 (IT)

With the way Milan are playing now, I can't see how we can win at Rome. There must be some improvement.

Posted by: Portikins Mar 9 2008, 05:26 PM

Fiorentina-Genoa and Juventus-Napoli in this fixture.

We'll see. But I think it will be difficult for us to grab a point in Olimpico at the moment.

Posted by: Bluesummers Mar 9 2008, 07:37 PM

0-2 for roma, i'm looking past this match.

Posted by: Darunia Mar 9 2008, 07:39 PM

We got a week to prepare, and hopefully Nesta, Seedorf will be back for this one and we can grab a point.

in order to grab a point, we'll need a miracle from broccadinho. rolleyes.gif

I'd be very happy with a point from this one.

Posted by: redbabies Mar 9 2008, 08:09 PM

we become a different team when we rest a full 1-week.

i'm very optimistic about his fixture.

If Inter and Fiorentina lost I would not really mind us losing too! biggrin.gif

But I care more about Milan than I could ever care about Inter failing so... FORZA MILAN!!! devil.gif

No way we can win this one. everyone would be happy with a point I guess. but that will be very very difficult.

milan havent won against a good team all year, so i would expect us to win at least one game like this. i wont be too surpsied if we pull off a win, then again i wouldnt be surprised if they outclass us.

AC Milan's English language page is a source of great amusement for me. There's almost always at least one or two really bad typo/grammar/etc mistakes to give one a snicker.

There are MANY better-designed, more up-to-dated and accurate football club official websites out there. our website simply sucks [especially its Englsih section].

In any event, back to the game:

Today before today's Lega Calcio meeting, Galliani spoke with reporters. He apparently told them that Nesta, Seedorf, Gattuso, and Janku would be back and available to play against Roma.

Hopefully they're not rushing them back because it's an important game just like they did against Arsenal.

But if they are all sure that the players returning are at 100% then it's great news

Posted by: Darunia Mar 12 2008, 10:12 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if we played with two strikers if Seedorf isn't 100%, with a Gattuso-Pirlo-Ambro midfield.

I prefer a disabled Rino to Emo

Posted by: Tennie Mar 12 2008, 11:57 PM

Pippo, Janku, and Emerson trained apart from the group today. Everyone else took part in regular training.

Ronie observed training (there are pictures on acmilan.com).

As far as Roma goes, there's some question as to whether Mexes will be available and Giuly has apparently only just returned to training with the group.

Posted by: whoarethepatriots Mar 13 2008, 12:22 AM

Mexes is their Nesta, if he misses out we will be slightly more likely to breach their defence

Posted by: sansiro1708 Mar 13 2008, 01:26 AM

i dunno this game is so triky ...
imo opinion i hope we lose and fiorentina does also.
i dont want roma to lose track of the merda. i rather see roma lifting the champions and serie A . than inter the serie A

Posted by: Darunia Mar 13 2008, 04:24 AM

I kind of expect it to be a draw like last season or a close loss is possible as well. Hopefully Inter and Fiorentina drop pts.

Posted by: Bluesummers Mar 13 2008, 05:43 AM

i hope kaka is on his game and pato too. I expect gourcuff to recieve some time again, not much though.

Posted by: armisse Mar 13 2008, 07:57 AM

We must defeat them !

Posted by: Darunia Mar 13 2008, 07:16 PM

Nesta, Seedorf, and Janku are still training on their own, so its uncertain if they will make it. If they don't, expect something like this:

Kalac
Oddo Bonera Kaladze Maldini
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Kaka
Pato Gilardino

The fish doll would prefer Paloschi to Gila. 96.gif

The one minorly lucky thing about injuries is that Roma's got 'em too. Of their usual starters, De Rossi trained apart today. Mexes and Pizarro trained separately Wednesday, and on Tuesday Mexes ONLY did physiotherapy (Tonetto and Totti also trained separately on Tuesday).

(source: asroma.it and their 'today's training' articles. Milan's 'today's training' articles are better, even though the wooly caps the Roma players wear during training makes me snicker more)

Gattuso Pirlo Ambro and Emerson? Only Carlo would try that. Gourcuff for Gila maybe.

Here is Gazzetta's probable lineup:

Kalac
Bonera Nesta Kaladze Maldini
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini Kakà
Seedorf
Pato

Posted by: kurtsimonw Mar 14 2008, 01:56 AM

Kaka' on the left and Seedorf behind the strikers? That must surely be a mix-up.

Sorry!

Bonera also made a terrib;e mistake in that game, when will Carlo ever learn that he is not a RB?? rolleyes.gif

Personally I would like to see us go out with something like this

Oddo--Nesta--Maldini--Janku
---Seedorf--Pirlo--Gattuso---
--------------Kaka-------------
-----------Pato--Gila----------

That would have been the formation we would have gone out with a couple of seasons ago and we would most probably win it. These days it's a whole different story so I'm expecting this formation from Carlo

Bonera--Nesta--Kala--Maldini
--Gattuso--Pirlo--Ambrosini--
--------Seedorf--Kaka---------
-------------Pato----------------

rolleyes.gif

Posted by: zdrossoneri Mar 14 2008, 09:23 AM

I want to see this:

----------- Pato ------------ Paloschi ----------

-------------------- Kaka -----------------------

---- Seedorf ------ Pirlo ------- Gattuso ------

Janku ------ Maldini ------ Nesta ------ Oddo

--------------------- Kalac ---------------------

Pato is our undisputed #1 striker and Paloschi is definitely more useful than Gila at the moment. besides when you make Gila angry by playing two school kids ahead of him, you're more likely to see a goal from him. so Gila on the bench, and the substitute of Paloschi in the second half.

Posted by: Tennie Mar 14 2008, 02:05 PM

Here are the call ups:

PORTIERI: Dida, Fiori, Kalac;
DIFENSORI: Bonera, Digao, Favalli, Kaladze, Maldini, Oddo, Simic;
CENTROCAMPISTI: Ambrosini, Brocchi, Emerson, Gattuso, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf;
ATTACCANTI: Gilardino, Pato, Paloschi

Dida and Seedorf are back.
No Nesta or Janku. sad.gif
Yay for Paloschi! 96.gif
This week, Kaka is a midfielder.

Posted by: Darunia Mar 14 2008, 02:22 PM

Oddo-Bonera-Kaladze-Maldini it is. Expect x-mas tree.

Dida's back finally recovered.

Posted by: Brian Birkin Mar 14 2008, 02:24 PM

The game against empoli spawned a good win even if the play wasnt all shining. Now we will face a difficult game, but nonetheless it makes a victory all the more glorious. I hope Pato can once again show his skills. I'm guessing we'll win 0-2.

We crashed out of Europe, so Kaka will be a midfielder until the end of the season. He's mostly listed as a forward in Champions League or when our army of strikers is out injured. innocent.gif

Whoa!

I hope you're right, but I can't see Milan winning this one 0-2. I think it'll be a pretty tight game, probably ending up 0-0 or 1-1.

Posted by: Brian Birkin Mar 14 2008, 03:27 PM

I agree it may be unlikely, but i figure why not a great performance by us?

Posted by: m1ke Mar 14 2008, 03:51 PM

We're certainly due one! This will be the first time in what, two months(?), since we haven't played a game every 3/4 days. Carlo has assured us that we'll see a 'different' Milan on Saturday night - I hope he's right. It's not necessarily the recent results that bother me, it's the lack of performance and we need to improve a lot if we're going to grab that 4th spot.

Posted by: redbabies Mar 14 2008, 04:03 PM

Without Nesta chances of conceding a goal are: 99% - and conceding two goals are: 80% sad.gif

We've certainly been due one for a few good months. laugh.gif But deep down I know things won't change so fast. It's not about the rest between matches, it's the lack of motivation. Last season, Ronaldo helped us immensely because he was motivated. And that proved the difference between our success in the league last season king.gif, along with the dream run of Kaka in Europe.

We haven't been the same Milan since Istanbul, since the 2006 scandal, and since Sheva betrayed us and left: the old 4-0 Milan, the 6-0 Milan, the 2-0 at half time Milan. Now it's just some sparks here and, a trance of a run in Europe there. Fingers crossed things will improve. wink.gif

but who knows, if we play at our potential then we can do it. We have had 2 month of continues football. Maybe this full week of rest might help us make the match at Roma a turning point into better things.

Posted by: Brian Birkin Mar 14 2008, 06:43 PM

We play good when we need to. Sure Fiorentina is still in the UEFA cup and might start dropping at the very end but that is nothing to depend on. If the players in Milan thinks about that the coming matches will decide wheter Milan is in CL next season or not then I'm sure we can get some good performances.

One other thing to keep in mind - and I'm sure it's in the back of the mind of the Roma players - is that the midweek game next week is Roma-Lazio. There's been some discussion about not playing players who are 1 card away from suspension v. Milan so as to have 'em available for the derby.

Carlo has been assuring us a different Milan since the christmas break and we might have gotten worse rather then better since then.

But as you said, this is the first game we've had in a while that we hadn't had to play in the span of 3 days form the one before it. Hopefully we'll actually put in a performance.

The fact that Pirlo has been non existing for the last month has been a huge blow and probably one of the big factors of going out of the CL

The more I see Ambro and Gattuso, the more worried I am about our future captaincy. I honestly think Nesta is our best bet after Maldini, what with him being his heir, and as calm as Paolo. And don't bring up that crap about him being Lazio at heart. If we can give a captains armband to a traitor tongue.gif, then we can sure as hell give it to Nesta. Kaka should wait in line. To play with this formation, we either need Pirlo to really step up or have a world class ALM to replace Ambro. It doesn't take a genius to figure out Ambro is clueless as an attacking midfielder...

I don't really mind any of them personally, including Rino. But no offense to any animals reading this, Gattuso is compared to Rhinos for a reason. And we all know how good a captain material they are! biggrin.gif

But my only gripe with him is he might not bring calm and serenity to the post, which was evident from what little matches I've seen with Rino as captain. dry.gif

Yeah for the first 15 minutes...

Those first few minutes gave me hope that we might finally show up in a game. But other then that it's been all Roma and we have been VERY lucky not to conceed so far.

The probalem with Ambro is that he can't even make a pass that's longer then 5 feet without screwing it up.

Carlo needs to either bring on Yoann or Puma in his place. I think Emerson would be the best choice

Kaka needs to be faster on some occasions.

Favalli was worst on the pitch in this half.

As far as chances are concerned: We could have scored if Ambro would have been insted of Seedorf when Pato made that wonderfull cross.

I think the midfield is linking up better this game than it has for a while. Still not up to what I'd normally expect of Milan, but at least there's an improvement. Seedorf definitely showed up for this one, finally. Oddo is doing well defensively; it's the crossing that's still off.

I was worried that Roma'd be up 2-0 at the half. We're at least creating chances in the game and that to me is a good thing.

Yes, exactly. A minute or two back I was about to post how bad can it be, we'll draw at most (when we had a 1-goal lead). A couple of creative genius by the coach, and a panic button from the team, and Bob's your uncle.

De Rossi was right when he said they'd win this match. cool.gif To be honest, I'm not to worried, at least it keeps the heat on Inter. I'll be when Fiorentina wins theirs, though.

What did Carlo do?????????

Seedorf got injuried, and at that time we had 0-1

This is the first match this season I'm mad we lost and think it wasn't really deserved. Seedorf should have scored that one-on-one, and Pato, for the first time, was totally green.

Not like the Arsenal match, were he was "nowere", no today he just was the green 18-year old attacker.

Seedorf - superb. Pirlo - quite good. Rino - solid. Kaka - excellent. Ambro - mad.gif bad, real bad this time. Kaladze and Favalli - awfull. Kalac? Average. We can't blame him, but he's not first team material. Oddo was very good.

Totti was on the other hand a **** today. He should have been carded for his constant cheating - 2 handballs, 3 fouls, 2 simulations, XXXX times yelling at the ref. But he also made great assists and well,..won Roma the match.

It's not Ancelotti's fault really. Dammit, it's the stupid defense. We need Nesta back and Kala out.

Kalac 5
Oddo 6.5

What was he supposed to do???? He had only Brocchi..is that better then Emerson?

Posted by: redbabies Mar 15 2008, 10:42 PM

Tonight the last one to be blamed was Carlo Ancelotti guys.

Do you know what kind of players he had on the bench? Gila, Emerson, Brochi, Paloschi, Fiori, Bonera, and Simic!!!!!!!!

For Gods sake tell me, which one of them could come in and make the difference? f@ckin non of them.

On the other hand you could see what a super-team is Roma. They have subs like Vucinic and Guily which came in and both scored!!!

Gila again missed a good chance at the end.
Seedorf and Pato could have finished the match earlier if their finishing would be better.

Favalli cry.gif ... why is he a footballer at first place? How can he play for Milan???? He's the worst ever player I've seen.

Seedorf played a very good match, but wasn't 100% so had to come off.

We should buy a replacment for Ambro during the summer. Not that we should sell him, just let him on the bench. We need a very good left-midfielder in Ambro's place and that would change a lot of things in our display.

shame shame shame... we couldn't defend the resuld we had!

Don't tell me Ancelotti had to do something. Seedorf was tired and injured, and there was no other option. Or Brocchi maybe? Please,...

Ancelotti made everything allright, Roma had luck and the left part of our defense sucked utterly. Favalli and Kaladze had problems with Perrotta, Spalletti saw that and gave Giuly the chance. It's his fault not to have demanded one more attacking player, instead, he demanded EMERSON. Are you kidding me with this stuff? Of course it was his fault. He can't motivate the players anymore and he has messed up his tactics... This is not even the same formation we won the CL with last season. Ambro and Gattuso played more toward the center to free up pirlo to push forward and make runs and precise passes. Now Ambro is playing wide on the left and Gattuso is playing as a defensive winger... Pirlo is left all alone in the middle and has to dribble past 3 players each time he attempts to make an attacking move. These are signs of desperation from Ancelotti and co. The game plan has been thrown out the window and has been replaced by two extreme tactics: 1) ALL OUT ATTACK 2) ALL OUT DEFENSE

Both of which barely work because there is no strategy and everybody seems to be going one direction.

So, yes, it's Anclotti's fault above all along with the management.
