Maignan out for 2-3 weeks FFS! We're left with Tata in the league and Mirante in the CL.

Well, in all honesty we played relatively well. Napoli didn't do anything aside from the two goals, we had the better chances but flunked them. It happens, but it goes to show you that our attacking problems still persist. CDK has been massively underwhelming thus far. Alexis is mediocre, and Messias is utter garbage. I'm starting to agree with you Han, we should have never renewed him. Did you see him last night? Serie C level. I read we might go for Ziyech in January. Please let it be.

Were the better team throughout.

It's clear that Napoli are going to be our main rivals now imo. Over the course of the season we'll come out on top. 100% sure of that

Napoli will fumble like a bunch of idiots like they always do. I don't even count them.

Should have been an easy win. Napoli were sh*t but we made them look good thanks to Pioli?s choices. The loss is on him.

It would have made sense to start Kjaer and shift Kalulu, but to drop Kalulu and play Calabria still at RB?? F@cking strange.

I understand Krunic, Pioli trusts him implicitly and we can't have both Messias and Alexis starting

I can't understand Krunic. It's one thing having him in CM, but on the wings??? Why not try Adli? What's Pioli's problem with Adli? He's been constantly ignoring him despite a wonderful pre-season. In a match when Leao, Rebic and Origi are missing, someone with Adli's qualities would be very useful. Yet we get the usual Krunic BS. I'm not happy.

Why not Kalulu to cover Kvara FFS???

2 slow players on the right, and Kalulu not playing, is there something wrong with him or is he on the bench?

He's on the bench.

Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Theo; Tonali, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, De Ketelaere, Krunic; Giroud.

Weird to see Kjaer starting ahead of Kalulu, and also Krunic on the wing WTF! Thank you, Pioli. I guess you really must hate Adli.

Maldini, yesterday was asked on the status of Leao?s renewal.

His comments: We already started talking a long time ago, with Rafa, Bennacer and Kalulu. I always believe that what the player wants counts for a lot in these situations.

If I?m not mistaken, I think this means its more likely Leao will leave this summer and possibly Bennacer, if they dont agree a renewal before then.

You always tend to jump the gun and get overdramatic about such comments. This is football. Saying that a contract renewal requires the willingness of both parties is the most normal thing to say.

Leao and Bennacer will renew 100%. Bennacer without the shadow of a doubt. And Leao is worth way too much to be left hanging by a thread till his contract runs out. One way or another the club will earn from him, be it in football performances or cold hard cash. And personally speaking I'm not too hot on Leao. If a 120m offer comes for him I'm all for selling him, IF that money can be reinvested in other players.

3-1 FT

Appalling first half, average second. Got the win barely trying. Really unhappy with the overall performance, but at least got the 3 points.

And agree re the goal. Was it judged as a Giroud offside?

Yes! When Giroud wasn't even in the ball's trajectory, the defender simply headed it away as he would have naturally done in any situation. I repeat, one of the most asinine disallowed goals I have seen in my life. Even worse than Kessie's from last year against Napoli. Nearly cost us the 3 points.

Gonna suck without Leao against Napoli, especially since fucking Rebic is out injured as well. And Origi keeps having these muscular issues way too often. A failed signing this far. Thankfully Napoli don't have Osimhen either.

The ref tried everything in his power tonight to f*ck things up. CDK goal is one of the most ridiculous disallowed goals I have seen in my life. Leao red was idiotic. At least he had the courage to give us that pen otherwise I would have cursed him for life.

Also, the Samp players, what a bunch of fucking clowns. Diving and putting their hands on their faces after every contact. Leao first yellow was only because the Samp c*nt got a little flick on his chest and fell down crying like a little b*tch, obviously with his hands on his face. I hope they get relegated.

He'll find more joy and space out wide. It's in the centre where he gets bullied. Alexis is just as capable as Messias of having a major stinker btw, I think he offers a bit more but we really have a handicap on that side. There is not harm in trying different things out.

I wholeheartedly disagree. For me Diaz on the wing would be the most useless thing on the planet.

It don't matter. They showed to everyone how to approach games like these, regardless of how awful Liverpool are. I'm sure we wouldn't have won so convincingly had we faced them.

QUOTE (han2503 @ Sep 6 2022, 10:02 PM) *
The European mantality is key. We just lack the know-how in the CL imo, and Pioli also is a factor here. Plays it too cautiously.

I think Salzburg were really good in the first half. Pressed us very well, quick, good movement. Better than the majority of Serie A team we face if we're being honest here. 2nd half they completely dropped off and Pioli f@cked it up with the changes.

He needs to try Brahim on the right side. Simple as. He's not doing it in the middle where it's congested, his turn of pace and close control would work better wide. Messias is garbage man. A Serie B player playing in the CL and we expect him to produce something... Alexis was probably our best player

Calabria as well, he's a good Serie A player, but he's not a top CL level player, he get exposed athletically in these types of games.

No no no man, Brahim on the right would be even more useless. He'll be pushed and bullied like a 10 year old.

I think Saelemaekers is the least worst alternative there. At least he's unpredictable. Messias entered the pitch tonight like an old ex-footballer in one of those legend charity games. Absolutely appalling.

But let's not try to focus just on that right side. A lot of things didn't work out tonight. If it wasn't for Leao we wouldn't even have scored any goal.

Crap performance. Once again we fail to produce anything meaningful. I really fail to understand our gameplan sometimes. We play these games like we're playing against Sampdoria.

Very lacklustre performances by many players, CDK above all. Completely anonymous. And don't get me started on Pioli's subs. Pobega, Brahim, Messias, all so so sh*t.

We could have used someone like Adli tonight but of course Pioli had to prefer Balotelli-Toure over him.

We lack a European mentality, simple as. Salzburg were OK but nothing exceptional. We could have won with a decent performance.

Salzburg-Milan tonight!

I don't know why, maybe because I grew up with Ancelotti's Milan which dominated the Champions League, but these games hype me up like crazy, regardless if we're playing Real Madrid or Viktoria Plzen.

QUOTE (han2503 @ Sep 4 2022, 01:52 PM) *
I don't think that means we'll keep following the Elliot way completely though. Elliot is a hedge fund, they wanted to flip the asset for good money. They brought the right people in, limited costs, made the club successful again within certain parameters. Their strategy was for a short term ownership and selling again

RedBird are and investment firm. They're going for a more long term strategy. They want the asset to grow, become successful, self-sufficient and profitable. I think that will mean that money will be invested at first to help make sure that we reach the ultimate goal of being profitable.

Also, exceptions were made under Elliot like Zlatan, or big money moves like Leao, Tomori and recently CDK. If they believe the player has great upside, they'll take the risk. Leao imo is that big exception. He's a star, and not jus any run of the mill Serie A star, he's a 100+ million player. You don't just let that disintegrate into nothing. Zlatan was out of our wage structure, we can easily shift that over to Leao. Bennacer can easily be given something similar to Theo. That's all very doable and wouldn't effect our salary structure at all.

Exactly. Gazidis' words shouldn't be taken as a simple copy/paste of Elliott's previous conduct. The strategy will be similar in the sense that it's imperative to maintain a debt-free capital structure and increase revenues, but RedBird want this brand to increase in appeal over the medium-to-long term. Hence, I expect a gradual change in certain aspects like the salary cap and the spending budget. RedBird is gathering important investors and they have the money, so I'm very optimistic about the future.
