Starting formation: 4-3-3

Donnarumma
Rodriguez-Romagnoli-Caldara-Abate
Biglia-Kessie-Bonaventura
Suso-Higuain-Hakan

I think you have Rodriguez and Abate on the wrong sides. Also I don’t think Abate will start. I’d say Calabria to start the season but I wouldn’t be shocked if Conti overtakes him (assuming he’s healthy). Abate will probably be third choice and I’d be fine with seeing him leave in the winter. I think he was rumored to be interested in going to MLS.

Castielljo doesn't convince me. We should have signed Bernard. How come we let him go to Everton?

Bernard got a crazy high salary from Everton. Something like 6 million. He’s not worth that much.

That was simply a beautiful performance. Met Roma blow for blow in midfield. The defense absorbed everything and made it look easy. Romagnoli was everywhere. The attack was opportunistic and fairly clinical. Cutrone continues his streak of being in the perfect spot at the right moment. Calabria was incredible. He still loses the ball occasionally but he's such an intelligent player for his age. Gattuso has every player on the squad playing their heart out. It was a joy to watch. I haven't said that about a Milan side in a long time.

Well this result will help the goal differential! Ugly at times but I’ll take an ugly 4-0 any day. Important three points. Nice to see Cutrone in the right places and Borini grabbing a goal.

New team or old team. It's near Christmas and this excuse is getting old. I mean the management clearly set a goal: reaching a CL place. Now, this is looking further and further. How long should we wait for the new team to gel?

The team isn't playing well but this is hyperbolic. It's not even November let alone Christmas.

I don't even feel angry right now, just completely disappointed. We should do better, no excuses. We did better last season with that sad excuse for a team. Montella has a lot to answer for.

Same here. I was angry earlier when the goals happened but now I'm just drained. Such a disappointing display. Montella really needs to get the defense sorted out. Play your best damn eleven already. We need to gel and fast.

What a joke! If we don't pull one back in the first ten minutes then Montella needs a beating.

Man o man do we look awful. The most impotent possession I've seen in a while. Montolivo is apparently incapable of anything other than standing over the ball for a century before passing backwards. Borini can't beat a man to save his life. Suso has been completely invisible. Just all around bad. Montella needs to make some changes and put his boot up some backsides.

Gabbia having #46 and Zanellato having #45 is slightly confusing

Suso making an impact immediately. I wonder if Fassone can manage to sell Mauri somewhere before other directors have a chance to watch this tape? Clearly the worst midfielder on the roster.

There's a clear gulf in class between our new transfers and our old players. Zapata, Mauri, Antonelli are nothing compared to Musacchio, Kessie/Biglia and Rodriguez.

After seeing the first-half, I'll take Rafinha at this point. Mauri is not good enough even as a back up.

Agreed. God help us if we ever have to start all of them on a consistent basis. I liked what I saw from Locatelli, Cutrone, and Zanellato. Zanellato plays a lot of very simple balls but he's pretty tidy.

But your last sentence is really untrue IMO. Clearly you haven't seen enough of Paletta and co. Then a 10 men Crotone would have been faced by a 10 men Milan.

This is the key bit to me. Paletta and Zapata rarely ever looked comfortable or composed for the length of a match with the ball at their feet. Ball handling might not be a traditional skill for a CB but it is clearly very important in the modern game, especially with the tactics that Montella wants to employ. Bonucci and Musacchio looked very confident both defensively and in position. Not once did I have the half heart attack that routinely occurred with Paletta and Zapata last year.

He was OK. Didn't have much work to do considering Crotone were almost nonexistent in attack.

Exactly. The true tests will come later as we start playing tougher competition. For now, I'm satisfied with how composed the back line is compared to the Paletta-Zapata combo we dealt with far too often last year. I'm also happy with the nature of his leadership so far.

And what is a "super external attacker"?

I assume it's a poor translation of winger. Hopefully some one for the left wing or someone capable of covering both wings.

I really like the kid, I think he can be versatile as well

But do you guys think it's a good idea to keep him and leave him on the bench for the majority of the time? A striker like him needs to get a lot of minutes. Crotone (incidentally (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ) really want him on loan, which means they'd be playing him a lot.

I'd love to keep him for rotation, but what I'm asking is what would be best for him? Going out for a season and getting a lot of games or staying with us and integrating into the team slowly?

I think that depends on how much rotation Montella is going to have. Theoretically we could have a lot of games to cover if we go deep in the Europa League and Coppa. He would definitely get more playing time at Crotone but would it be better to get playing volume or for him to be well integrated and grow in this project? I think he and Silva could be good at super subbing for each other every other game but I'm not sure if that will work with Kalinic incoming.
