AC Milan - Milanfan.com _ Matches _ Serie A - Week 31 - Milan - Inter

Posted by: han2503 Mar 20 2011, 06:11 PM

The big one, we lose this one and it's bye bye title.

All I have to say is: Allegri get your head out of your @ss!!!

Posted by: X-Offender Mar 20 2011, 06:23 PM

Pirlo shouldn't be available for this one, but I'm still a bit hopeful about it. Pato should recover no problem. Either way, this is how I'd play:

Abbiati
Abate - Nesta - T. Silva - Emanuelson
Flamini - Van Bommel - Boateng
Robinho
Pato - Cassano

Enough with the three DMs. Enough with Antonini, Gattuso and Seedorf. I don't care if Emanuelson is not good defensively, there's no way he can be worse than Antonini. I hope Gattuso breaks a leg. No matter how hard he tries in every game, he's simply not cut for this kind of sport any longer. And Seedorf should just retire.

Posted by: acid911 Mar 20 2011, 06:32 PM

Not really feeling this one. sad.gif I think we'll end up with drawing this at best. 0-0 if Nesta and Silva show up.

Posted by: CHU-LIP Mar 20 2011, 06:56 PM

Robinho, Pato
Boateng
Pirlo, Van Bommel, Gattuso
Jankulovski, T.Silva, Nesta, Abate
Abbiati

^ Allegri said Pirlo won't be able to recover on time. sad.gif

Posted by: d'Arc.LP Mar 20 2011, 07:33 PM

I'd play like this :

Abbiati
Abate - Nesta - Silva - Antonini
Flamini - Vanbommel - Emanuelson
Boateng
Pato - Robinho

QUOTE (CHU-LIP @ Mar 20 2011, 06:56 PM) *
Robinho, Pato
Boateng
Pirlo, Van Bommel, Gattuso
Jankulovski, T.Silva, Nesta, Abate
Abbiati

Jankulovski was injured during the game with Palermo and is expected to be out for a very long time.

Posted by: han2503 Mar 20 2011, 07:59 PM

Isn't Zambrotta fit??? Personally I don't want Urby starting at LB, he doesn't really inspire any confidence defensively speaking, but if Zambro can't play I'd give him a shot anything is better then Antonini at this point.

I'd go with the lin-up X-off posted.

@ acid, a draw means we're still ahead, I'd take anything aside from a loss

Posted by: CHU-LIP Mar 20 2011, 08:30 PM

Pato and Robinho (sub in Cassano for I don't know who - could be a midfielder, could be Robinho)
Boateng
Emanuelson, Van Bommel (if he plays bad, sub in Seedorf) and Gattuso (Flamini could be subbed in for Furby or Rino)
Zambrotta (if we're behind, sub in Antonini), Thiago Silva, Nesta and Abate
Abbiati

Posted by: X-Offender Mar 20 2011, 09:13 PM

It's funny how you guys put Zambrotta game in and game out, but Allegri never plays him. biggrin.gif

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said at best. smile.gif Point sharing with inter at this stage (and with the team we may have to put up on the pitch come April 2) is not a bad thing, and like you, I'll take it with a smiling face. But seeing as how we have played since the start of the year, I fear for the worse. We have practically invited inter to the title dinner.

Sweet and sour meatballs! Never thought it would come to this from the 13-point lead we had. angry.gif realmad.gif Bah!

Posted by: X-Offender Mar 20 2011, 10:46 PM

Inter had a 13-point lead from Roma last season and managed to be climbed over five weeks from the end. Yet they managed to win it. It's not a tragedy. What worries me is Allegri. He's going to lose us this championship with his asinine decisions.

He is one lucky duck, I'll give him that. sleep.gif dry.gif Mr. B has been known to make things difficult for any and all coaches, going by our history. The management, I feel, is quite and waiting for the derby game it seems. They gave Allegri a lifeline even though he fudged up the CL (no quarters, means little revenue from Europe).

I am sure he knows that no Scudetto = the exit door. But what matters is how much the guy is willing to adapt and adopt. Little, from the evidence so far. If we end up with 3 points in this match somehow, it still won't be the ticket to the title. Either way, I feel it will go down to the very wire. If the stupidity (or naivety) of the coach can get us this far down that we have made it a title race, then it could very well be a close, close finish come week 38.

We could win this one, and draw the next two. sad.gif That is the sorry state of affair. For some odd reason we have still not gelled together and progressed as a team. Injuries? Over the hill players? Weak (or no) tactics? Take your pick.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Mar 21 2011, 05:52 AM

Im not sure we can win ... they are in optimal form. The progressed into the QuraterFinals of the CL, they have been on a very positive streak moving from +10 points difference to just +2 from us.

All that said, I hope for a magical performance from the lads to get the 3 points.

Posted by: arivanjj Mar 21 2011, 06:34 AM

You know that's what's gonna happen. You've seen the way the team's been playing. My only hope is Leo screws it up for Inter.

We have no play from mid-field to attack. If we play Boateng deep, we lose the defensive battle in mid..not to mention we have no treqqies. Nesta is losing his touch..these past few matches. We have no LB. And without Ibra we no longer have mutant ninja awesomeness! sad.gif

This is gonna be a hard one.

Posted by: Ry4n Mar 21 2011, 07:34 AM

I'm hoping just not to lose at this point , draw or win would be fine.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Mar 21 2011, 07:48 AM

I might be over-simplifying, but my theory is that your weakness musn't be so bad that their strengths can exploit it and vice-versa.

We know Inter have a weak defence...but we don't have a strong attack to exploit it...especially with our injury problems in mid-field and lack of Ibra.

And while we have a strong defence, Inter's attack is not so weak that we can easily perform a shutout.

Can we win? Sure. Can we lose? Surer! wink.gif

I'm pretty sure Pato is going to score if he plays. My gut instincts about Milan don't often let me down. However I'm not feeling the win. I've not been confident with Allegri at the helm ever since our tie with Real Madrid when I found him to be not able to the task. The last few weeks have shown him to be even more clueless than I suspected

Posted by: Ry4n Mar 21 2011, 05:28 PM

Calm down people. We're still in first place and will remain there for at least another two weeks. This is the same team that's spent most of the season at the top so it's not like we're incapable of winning something.

Allegri hasn't impressed me too much with his selections in the last few games but let's not forget that the players too haven't performed to their capabilities. It takes two to make things work. Ibra's stupidity means we don't have him at an important time but why can't someone else step up? It's not like we have only one striker in the team.

How likely are we to get Pirlo and Ambro back for the derby at this point? We need a few experienced heads who've been in this situation before.

put it this way, i would rather be in this position with Allegri at the helm but guys like Pato, Binho & Cassano def need to bring their A Games from now on out 'til the end of the season regardless of Ibra imo

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Mar 21 2011, 08:14 PM

How do you expect me to calm down when Ibra goes MIA and Pato ironically gets injured... Then you have a midfield made up of eggs that even Mourinho wouldnt be able to make a scramble with. Add to that the already blistered defense and the fact that han openned this thread .. You still expect me to calm down?

That's not true. Boateng can be as good defensively just as Flamini and Gattuso. He only needs to be disciplined in order to maintain his position properly, which I think in such important games comes off naturally. Look at his performance against Tottenham. The guy was everywhere and with a half-distorted ankle I might add. Hell, if Eto'o can play as fullback, then Boateng can play as midfielder just fine. He is a box-to-box after all.

Posted by: samira Mar 21 2011, 08:58 PM

I really hope Leo keeps playing Inter like the did last night..
The were some problems with the team when they were playing against Lecce and the had stars like Eto'o Sneijder and the midfield at least tongue.gif Playing Emmanuelsson and Pato against Bari was amazing, I hope to see it again.
Show the people AC Milan is not all about Ibrahimovic..
Im hoping on a draw

FIRST SESSION BEFORE THE DERBY

MILANELLO - The Rossoneri got back to training at Milanello this afternoon, after having the last two days off.

The team practised on the central pitch of the Milan sports centre.

Starting at 15.00 CET, the goalkeepers and the ten non-international outfield players warmed up without the ball before going through some ball possession and tactical drills.

Just before 16.00 CET, Massimo Ambrosini came out to run some laps. As for Andrea Pirlo, the playmaker, who got injured on February 11, went through an intense training session based on runs at varying pace.

The Rossoneri’s next practice is scheduled for tomorrow morning, while sessions on Wednesday and Thursday will be held in the afternoon.

You are all right guys, they are in a good moment, we are in a bad moment. The result? We play bad, they play bad, they win, in the last two games we didn't.
What I am trying to say is that we are in a bad moment, and it's normal to play in this way, they are in a good moment, but still they are not expressing a spectacular game.

So, we can do it. I am sure we actually can, if we play the match as MILAN.

Ronaldo tips Inter for derby win

Brazilian legend Ronaldo has tipped Inter to beat Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on April 4.

The 34-year-old, who retired in February, played for both clubs in his fabulous career.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ronaldo said: “The derby is the derby, a game in itself.”

Pressed to pick a winner, he replied: “OK, I believe Inter [will do it] because they have found their own style of play again, but above all because of their confidence.

“I see a more confident Inter than Milan, and this can count.”

Asked if he feels that Inter would win the Scudetto in the event that they were to beat Milan, Ronaldo said: “It's difficult to say with another seven games still to play, but I really think so.

“You know what Leonardo has always said to me? That winning helps you win. Getting used to it is difficult, but then it's great. Inter have managed it only after a long time and lots of hard work. I really don't believe that they'll stop now."

I love how enthusiastic we are about this game... biggrin.gif anyway...

It kind of looks to me like the only one who is truly putting his all into the Milan cause currently is Adriano Galliani with not much of a budget at all. Silvio seems distant and disinterested most of the time and we lack proper funding for a club of our stature. We expect to win and be able to compete with Inter when our squad has some serious holes in it and the current age of many of our star players is more than we can afford. With sacrifice and grit we can win something, but this squad is very thin. Doesn't make it exciting for us fans that follow the club. I want great solid players that are exciting to watch. But I understand the club is not willing to spend right now.

Zambro played for primavera today (needed match fitness). I would play him as LB against Inter. No Antonini please.

Posted by: X-Offender Mar 26 2011, 09:24 PM

Zambrotta has not played a single game since November. No way I'd play him against Inter.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Mar 26 2011, 10:24 PM

I'm not sure. Neither Antonini nor Jankulovski sound as good solutions.

Posted by: X-Offender Mar 26 2011, 10:52 PM

Jankulovski will be out for a long time, so we're left with Antonini and Emanuelson. Personally, I'd go for the latter.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Mar 27 2011, 06:26 AM

I would rather have Bonera at LB. He is the safest bet, as we need to tighten up the back-line as much as possible.

Maybe something like this:

Abate - Nesta - Thiago - Bonera

Gattuso - MVB - KPB

Robinho

Pato - Cassano

What I wish for is a thrashing of inter and to put an end to a horrid four years of being on the chase!

Zambrotta is 34 years old, and comes from a 4-month injury without having played a single game. If you think he's the best option for leftback, re-evaluate your ideas.

Urby would be a problem for us defensively, while Antonini has turned into a clueless almost player over the course of the season, I'd go with Zambrotta, leave Urby as an option in midfield.

Zambrotta, is an experienced player who's come in and played huge games after long lay offs, it won't be much of a stretch for him, plus he'll have an entire week to work on his fitness

Zambrotta has been available for almost a month now. The fact Allegri hasn't played him yet means that either he doesn't trust him anymore, or he's not ready yet. I think it's a mix of both.

I really don't think that he doesn't trust him, as far as I can recall Zambro never made any mistakes this season to warrant any mistrust from Allegri.

I'm choosing to beleive that he wasn't fit before that, was he even called up for the last few games?

Also if he can trust Janku against Napoli after he hadn't played a game in nearly an entire season, I'm sure he can trust a player like Zambrotta

After ten minutes of warm-up, the squad got divided into four groups. Some worked on the sand, others did direction changes at varying pace, while another group did uphill runs in the woods.

At around 11.30 CET the team reassembled to work do a series of tactical exercises. As usual, a match amongst the squad marked the end of the session.

As for individuals, Andrea Pirlo, Kevin Prince Boateng and Mark Van Bommel went through all the drills, including the tactical exercises and the match amongst the squad, together with the rest of the team.

Massimo Ambrosini, Filippo Inzaghi and Daniele Bonera trained separately.

Trapattoni soundbytes from Football-Italia:

QUOTE
Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni thinks the title race will come down to a photo finish, but still believes Milan will hold on.

This weekend's Derby della Madonnina is being billed as a title decider with Inter just two points behind the League leaders at the business end of the season

Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Trapattoni said: “I like Max Allegri. He has been a wonderful surprise. In the summer everyone was convinced that he'd play five or six strikers to make Berlusconi happy. Instead Allegri has changed Milan's mentality. He has convinced his champions that first they must win the ball then try and fling it in the back of the net.

“An illogical team has all of sudden become a title contender thanks to three words: spirit of sacrifice. Let's put it this way. This time Milan-Inter seems like a Champions League game and in the Cup the great Zlatan has never made the different. Eleven players must win the derby then Ibra will resolve the remaining games by himself.

“If Milan want to win the Scudetto they must stop Inter now in the derby. If Leonardo overtakes Milan the title race is over. The Nerazzurri would become like those American aircraft carriers that win all the wars. Unassailable.”

Yes, but Allegri would never play Van Bommel over Gattuso. So it's either him or Pirlo for the regista role.

Robinho: 'Milan play real football'

Wednesday 30 March, 2011
Robinho has praised Milan Coach Massimiliano Allegri ahead of Saturday’s derby with Inter. “With him you play real football.”

The Brazilian is expected to start this weekend, especially as teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended
“If I score the decisive goal, then I will dance the samba,” pledged Robinho on Milan Channel.

“This is a crucial moment in which we cannot afford to make a mistake. We just have to win, as it’s the only way we can think of conquering the Scudetto.”

The Rossoneri’s lead at the top of the table has been cut to just two points, so Inter would be the new leaders with a victory.

Robinho appears to have found his form in Serie A after a difficult spell at Manchester City.

“I like Allegri, as with him you play real football, the kind that I like. We play with the ball to feet, spreading the play down vertical lines quickly.

“Among all the Coaches I have worked with, I’d say Allegri is the best when it comes to the concept of football.

“In terms of my growth as a player, Fabio Capello was very important at Real Madrid. He’s a real sergeant with a fist of iron and has no favourites, talking to everyone the same way.”

Milan trio winning fitness race for derby

Alexandre Pato, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Mark Van Bommel look fit for the Milan derby after today’s training session.

The three players were all in doubt for Saturday’s Scudetto showdown at San Siro due to injuries.

Pato and Boateng picked up minor problems last week, while Van Bommel left international duty with Holland early.

All three took part in today’s full training session and therefore seem ready for the big game this weekend.

Andrea Pirlo and Pippo Inzaghi were the only players still undergoing separate training schedules.

Pato could well start with fellow Brazilian Robinho, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended.

LOL, yeah. laugh.gif So true!

he's had the worst attitude IMO this year. with his overcelebration of un-aimed shots going in. He laughs around when he completely fucks up and prays when his touch fails him instead of getting it back.

Posted by: acid911 Mar 31 2011, 12:30 AM

Totally agreed. sleep.gif But then again, most of us knew what we were getting when the management splashed 18 million on this player. What he adds, what he brings to the table, the overall quality. I have followed this guy long enough to know that this is not the man we need, not Milan quality

Good enough cover though, from the bench, and that's that. sad.gif He can pretty much add value to the team after the 60th minute, but to expect him to lead us when the going gets touch (CL knockout matches, anyone?) is foolhardy. Let's see how he fares on against inter. I have very little hope, though he is free to prove me wrong by scoring or winning us the match by making an assist or two.

As far as attitudes go, yeah, Ibra is not far behind, I am afraid. Player of the season for me: Thiago Silva!

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Mar 31 2011, 05:44 AM

You need grafters. I like Robinho. He's changed himself a lot for us. Unfortunately the way our team is structured without Pirlo....too much hinges on our attack. Any mistakes/off days from our strikers cost us big.

I don't regret the money spent this transfer window at all. I regret we couldn't strengthen our fullbacks and our midfield creativity..but that's okay. I trust Galliani to make the good deals when the time is right. I always have. biggrin.gif

Same attitude over and over again. Robinho this, Robinho that. Seriously, if you thought we signed Robinho to lead us to glory, you were wrong from the beginning. He's not a match winner. He doesn't win you games single-handedly, like Kaka' or Ibrahimovic. No, he's more of a team player. If the team underperforms, he doesn't play well either. But to say that he's not Milan quality is rather blasphemous. He was insanely brilliant at Madrid when he was just a kid, then he got lost a bit in Manchester (not much of a surprises really). He was Brazil's best player in the last World Cup. He is very talented, and he works his @ss off in every single game. Sure, he's not been outstanding this season, but that doesn't diminish his qualities. And his contribution so far this season has been respectful.

I've criticised Robinho a lot this season, but I cannot argue with this.

Yes his finishing is p!ss poor, but aside from that I really don't see anything that warrants criticsm. His movement, work ethic and team work have been top notch in every game he's played imo.

(Most) probabile line-ups:

MILAN (4-3-1-2): 32 Abbiati, 20 Abate, 13 Nesta, 33 Thiago Silva, 19 Zambrotta, 8 Gattuso, 4 Van Bommel, 10 Seedorf, 27 Boateng, 70 Robinho, 7 Pato.

INTER (4-2-3-1): 1 Julio Cesar, 13 Maicon, 15 Ranocchia, 26 Chivu, 4 Zanetti, 19 Cambiasso, 8 Thiago Motta, 27 Pandev, 10 Sneijder, 9 Eto'o, 7 Pazzini.

I would have liked Urby in this one instead of Gattuso, but I know Allegri will never grow old of this midfeild.

Or,you can play Boateng in midfeild as a box to box, with Dorf as a playmaker, and MVB as the defensive midfeild, with Cassano playing behind the strikers or Robinho. But,the setup of Gattuso and Seedorf in a 3-man midfeild will see us get dominated in the midfeild area.

But,Our defense look really solid!I just wish Allegri for once could fix the midfeild.

Gattuso helps avoiding getting dominated in midfield. He plays a very good season, defensively he is a rock, and that's needed in the tough games, against Inter.

Pato, Robinho and Seedorf have been brilliant. The only negative so far is Zanetti skipped past Rino and Abate like they weren't there on Inter's only real attack.

I think we will do ok, this is the first summer in I don't know how long that we've bought players in who will improve us, not just Zlatan but Amelia and I think Boateng could surprise one or 2 as well.

CL - we will get out of the group stage, then it's really down to who we play in the knockouts.
Serie A - a strong contention for the title this year, Inter won't be the same under Benitez.

Think I will change my name to Bluesummers laugh.gif

Don't know why ppl keep harping on this. He's been a brilliant support striker in this game and most season long. His opportunities haven't been quite as good as Pato's and Ceasar's performance has been outstanding. That said though some of his attacking decisions have been a tad off

hes had 2 1 on 1s with the keeper and managed to miss both, one of which the goalie was down and out... hes a decent forward but at the end of the day even if he could dribble past 11 players if he cant score then all that work is for nothing.

It depends on what your 'average' score is. I usually count '6' as average, so 6.5 for Abbiati sounds about right. He did make a great save, but did nothing else all game really.

If you asked me this time last year I would never have thought I'd become a huge Abate fan. He has really developed into a very good all around player and if he keeps working hard and learning he has the potential to lock down the RB spot for years to come.
