Milan are set to make a move for Ajax sensation Ryan Babel when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports.

The 19-year-old forward, who has Surinam origins, is rated highly by former Milan star Marco Van Basten (pictured), who included him in the Netherlands’ squad for the World Cup in Germany.

“Babel has the potential to become the new Thierry Henry,” said the Dutch Coach recently.

Babel is a natural born winger, who could play next to Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi and could also be fielded by Coach Carlo Ancelotti as a second striker.

Milan transfer guru Ariedo Braida has long since eyed the youngster and the club seems set to make an offer to Ajax in the attempt to bring Babel to Italy during the January transfer window, although his move may be postponed until the end of the season.

Ajax would be looking to net at least £5m for the player due to his importance to their Eredivisie hopes.

If Babel did make the switch to the peninsula he certainly wouldn’t be the first Ajax star to make the move.

The likes of Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Patrick Kluivert, Dennis Bergkamp and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have all previously traded life in Holland for a move to Italy.

He's too young... still from what I've seen, no Milan quality.

I think so too...he's no Huntelaar. We should go for him! (Huntelaar that is)

Huntelaar... another Gilardino/Inzaghi (inbox-striker)?! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

We need someone that can play with the inbox striker.

5M ??? Now that means that if Silvio wants him, he just won't go on vacation for a single weekend !! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

But you guys say he's no good !!?? Ironic isn't it that the article talks about a new Henry ... Arsenal already got two of that kind, the second one being Theo Walcott !! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I think Babel would be a good catch. On the other hand, who wouldn't in these circumstances, Milan have score one goal in 4 matches! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)
He's young and from what I've seen lately he's really good as well. But he can't be just 19, can he? Wasn't he a part of the Euro 2004-squad? If so, he had to be nly 17 when he played the Euro. That sounds a little too good to be true...

At this point we are going to be linked to everybody.

I read another one in tribal football that stated we are bidding for Ronaldo again.

Babel is another name like Sobis or anybody we'll be associated with.

1- If we need an immediate solution to our striker situation
-We need a super star who can come immediately

2- If we want a more long term solution
-Get Babel and youth

Right now he has 6 goals in 9 games(through all competitions)

We should get him. We need to start looking to the future. We only have 3 strikers(really 2) and alot of money. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain in our poor offense.

Babel's not bad. He's more of a left forward than an out and out striker though. Kinda like Robben and Henry I think. Plays on the outside wing and cuts in.
I'd posted that link from soccernet on the Wesley Sneijder thread, you guys should really chek it out for all things dutch.

You know what I think, though?
The problem is not the strikers. Sure, they've missed some chances but we all know that Pippo, Gila and Oliveira deep down are good finishers. The problem here, as I see it, is the midfield. Take the last few games as an example. Against Lille, Gila missed an open chance and Kaká was close when he rounded the keeper. Plus the goal who Seedorf scored, but that was not really an great chance, just a tremendous shot from a difficult angle. That's 2½ really good chances in one whole game, against a side like Lille. The Siena game wasn't that bad, only that Manninger was a freakin' human wall. But it was the same against Sampdoria on Saturday. Two or maybe three decent chances in a game is simply not good enough. The midfield has to create more chances both for themselves and the attackers. Especially Seedorf and Kaká have been looking very pale the last couple of games.
I would welcome Sneijder this winter, but if he would come, it better be as a regular because Milan already have a lot of good back-ups in Gourcuff, Ambro and Brocchi.

Babel ? I dont know .. It's not typical for Milan to bring in starlets .. Kaka-Gourcuff are one-offs .. In the history of Milan; rarely has a club brought in youngsters, they opt for experience above all ..

eg: Oliveira instead of Sobis; key element is experience (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

ps .. I'm sure the papers are selling a lot with all this transfer talks being linked with Milan. I mean had we won the last 4 matchs, I doubt we'd even be reading such links (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
