Milan are closing in on Internacional Porto Alegre striker Rafael Sobis, widespread reports in Italy are suggesting.

The Rossoneri have yet to replace Andriy Shevchenko and have targeted the 21-year-old who recently scored twice against Sao Paulo to net his club the Copa Libertadores.

Sobis, who has been selected by Brazil boss Carlos Dunga for ties against Argentina and Wales, is a former Under-20 international and is considered one of Brazil’s best talents.

Sobis prefers to play as a second striker but could be flanked by Kaka in a 4-3-2-1 formation which Rossoneri Coach Carlo Ancelotti seems keen on using this season.

Sobis was paired with an Inter transfer in November 2005, but the Nerazzurri could not reach an agreement with his Brazilian club.

The player’s agent also contacted Milan in January yet the outfit decided to wait rather than part with the £10.7m transfer fee requested.

Now, after losing the race to sign Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to city rivals Inter, the Rossoneri intend to make a bid for the South American who is currently valued at £7m.

Although Internacional President Fernando Carvalho has denied that anything has been agreed, the forward seems on his way out.

"We have not yet sold the player, but there has been contact,” he is quoted as saying on Friday morning.

Milan are also planning further summer transfers, but much will depend on the result of their Champions League third qualifying round match against Red Star Belgrade, which they currently lead 1-0.

If the Rossoneri qualify for the Champions League group stage then they will most probably move to sign Fernando Torres of Atletico Madrid or Udinese’s Vincenzo Iaquinta.

At least I hope Milan sign him. Even if I've never seen him play, I heard good words about him.
He is close.....I mean very close!
As it is said in the article Milan also would try to sign Torres, after Sobis. They just need CHL qualification!!!!!!
Question: Is Sobis better then Tevez?

It's difficult to say who's best. None have European experience.

Sobis is 1 year younger. Both have experience on their NT.

If I have to choose I'll go for Sobis. Simply because he's European (that Ucranian link), younger, and cheaper.

I hope we get both. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Oh so whoever he is, he holds an EU passport? Is Ukraine in EU now, I think it is?? Becuase if he doesnt have EU passport then its EITHER him or Tevez, not both , becuase of the only one player from a non-EU country rule. i am pretty sure Tevez has no other EU nationality.

I'd prefer Tevez simply becuase I do have a clue who he is, and has performed well on the big stage, well, once anyway, and I'd never even heard of Sobis until today.

Yes. Ukraine is in EU. He got ukrainian passport. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

PS: Do we need 2 topics to discuss about the same player on the same section of the forum... ? Maybe a new one, if it's official. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Tevez is a less gamble from two of them IMO. And you can't compare their NT experience. Tevez has proven himself more until now. He is 3 time SA best player after all.
I too hope we can bring them both

Sobis could well turn out to be as good as Kaka, both were relative unknowns and we all know how Kaka turned out! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/devilsmiley.gif)

Sobis is not unknown at all here in South America, Copa Libertadores is like the Champions League there in Europe, so i think that both of them are prepared for a "bigger stage", did Kaká failed?? did Ronaldinho failed?? did Batistuta failed?? did Maradona failed??

This is the only part from that article that I don't like

If they want to go for another big name striker after Sobis, they should go after Torres or TEVEZ and not Iaquinta, I hope that none of these Iaquinta rumors are true and that our management haven't even thought about him not even if the thought was a quick flash, that idiot should not be allowed to play in the Milan shirt

But I was talking about Europe...

I honestly feel that from what I've read and heard that Sobis is the player we should have gone after anyway. He seems to fit our plan perfectly+we have quite a few Brazilians in our squad so hopefully he'll be able to settle in very quickly.

Actually Kaka was very well known before he came to Milan .. R Madrid wanted him along with a long list of clubs; but thanks to Leonardo we had an edge.

At Sao Paulo, Kaka shined and I remember clearly the media frenzy surrounding his transfer.

Sobis .. The first I ever heared of him was recently, the first live game was Cupa Libertadoris (spelling) .. From what the papers, & most of u, say he has potential. To me he was good, but we have better options on the table.
