Welcome to Milan.

Hopefully no trouble comes along with him

And there's a whole box of them for whoever can keep Cassano taking his happy pills.

He looks tamed. There was never a question about his talent, the major question was about his attitude.

He scored two times already, with both Allegri and the senior players applauding his efforts in training. I hope that he is certainly tamed, as this is certainly his last chance to prove himself at the highest level.

And welcome FantAntonio

Posted by: ForzaMaldini Dec 31 2010, 03:49 PM

Such a big fan of the guy biggrin.gif Welcome!

Some quotes of FanAntonio:

QUOTE
“What is truly important is being happy now. I know I haven’t given 100 per cent physically or mentally to this game. At best, I gave 50 per cent. Maybe a tiny bit more in the good years. But so what? Thanks to my talent, I live like a king, I play football and I have a great time. If I had wanted to give 100 per cent, I would have stayed at Real Madrid, sacrificed lots of things, done my very best and I probably would have succeeded. Instead, I’m here at Sampdoria and I love it.”

This one I like:
QUOTE
It’s hard to tell if he will. He already has a plan for life after football. “I plan to get fat,” he writes. “I mean really, really fat. Even now, when I don’t play for a month, I’ll put on a dozen pounds. I plan on eating. A lot. I plan on eating everything.”

QUOTE
He ends his book by comparing his talent to a Ferrari. To get the best out of such a car, you need to be on the open road, pushing the engine to its limit, roaring along at 150mph. “I’d be driving my Ferrari through the centre of town in third gear, window down, arm out, smiling happily,” he writes.

I believe in FantAntonio potential in Milan. I thought like this, what a player has done in clubs before he comes to Milan, is irrelevant, because when he enters Milanello, he enters a new world.
Grande Milan has a way of merging players into a team.

Also, who is betting on that we will win Champions this season? It is now that Grande Milan often starts raising the level.

mad.gif angry.gif realmad.gif Yeah, and also because the idiots at FIFA decided that the new rule change (that takes effect this season, and the one I posted about in the other thread) only affects players who played in the 3rd qualifying round of UEFA championships. For some stupid reason it is not for players who played for teams who played in the 4th round (like Sampdoria).

So yeah, he is not eligible after all. sleep.gif Pathetic really, who is the schmuck that decides such things!

“Lots of teams wanted me, but as soon as I knew Milan wanted to sign me, I said to myself: 'Let's go there'.

“Rino Gattuso told me that everything is perfect here. You have everything to do well. If I don't manage to succeed here, I should be locked up in a madhouse.

“I am a second striker, but I am at the service of the Coach. I am open to playing in any role in attack. All I want is to win.

Antonio Cassano: Only Barcelona's Lionel Messi Is Better Than Milan's Alexandre Pato

Pato almost like Messi, Cassano says...

Milan attacker Antonio Cassano believes that only Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is better than Alexandre Pato.

Speaking to Il Corriere dello Sport ahead of Monday's game against Napoli, Cassano said, "Pato is the strongest of all, I told him this.

"Only one player is greater than him, Messi. Both would compliment each other and it would be exceptional to see them in the same team."

Former Blaugrana hitman Zlatan Ibrahimovic will go head-to-head with Edinson Cavani, Serie A's top scorer thus far on 20 goals compared to Ibra's 13.

"Ibrahimovic - Cavani, the strongest? Let's not joke. What question is this? Cavani is a good player, but Ibrahimovic is from another category," added Cassano.

"As for Napoli, Walter Mazzarri believes they can win the Scudetto, but maybe he doesn't know Milan are stronger."

But even I would say that maybe Cassano isn't quite as good as Messi. Although he is outrageously talented.

Cassano is straight up nuts but I'm impressed with the amount of maturity he has shown so far with Milan both on and off the pitch. He has slotted into the role that has been asked of him being a killer creative sub with the ability to start when needed. Also he seems to have a refreshing and humorous perspective about his past problems. Who knows maybe having a kid was the kick in the *** he needed. Either way I hope he keeps his head on straight for the rest of this scudetto run.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Mar 3 2011, 05:46 AM

Yeah I have to agree there. I think for the first time he's got a good mix of people around him. All champions, but both people who are immensely talented as well as those who've worked hard for their success.

The fact that this is HIS last chance also helps. If he can't make it here, he might as well give up and go back to Bari.

it's a bit puzzling for me to see the way he runs on the pitch. I mean he hasn't even come on yet and he looks like he is having a hard time jogging on with his head stiffly held high as if lifting something heavy, pretty much wobbling his body weight from one foot to the other and breathing heavily after making just a couple half-hearted runs. How can Milan trainers not have this taken care of by now? I don't understand.

Posted by: Dracoris Apr 3 2011, 05:04 AM

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Apr 3 2011, 09:15 AM

I don't think so. Cassano has still a lot to offer and his problems are a bit different.

Posted by: acid911 Apr 3 2011, 09:45 AM

Yeah, but a fine job he is doing not to eradicate them. sad.gif It's practically April, and the guy has not improved more than 20% as far as his physical condition is concerned, IMO. Still the chubby old player, still the chubby old performances, dragging himself through the pitch. Oh, well.

The talent is there, undoubtedly. But the talent was there in case of R80 as well. It's what they do with it.

LOL agreed. tongue.gif The ending, huh? Time will tell. Going by his past behavior and shenanigans, I don't have high hopes, but maybe it will come out good in the end. There is a lot of work to be done to get there, though, starting by getting in peak physical condition. Only then can Cassano translate his talent into performance.

Posted by: Milan Are Brilliant Apr 3 2011, 01:35 PM

Well I'm sure the Milan trainers will gruel him throughout the summer and hopefully he will come back fitter. He just looks a bit too weighty and lost the match fitness.

As Max said his fitness is terrible, I don't know if that's his style. Well, I do because he was never like that when he was younger. He's still actually only 28, so the weight should come off pretty easily. Hopefully the trainers will earn their money over the summer with him, because if they do we have some player again.

Though I don't think he's as fat as Ronaldinho! It's more a case of terrible, terrible fitness, which is pretty crazy for a professional athlete.

Posted by: X-Offender Apr 4 2011, 02:40 AM

Acid, you're always so quick and careless in your judgments.

Cassano came from two months of inactivity, and so far he's played very few games as starter. In order to get fit, you must play with continuity. This is especially true for Cassano's case. In order to see the best of him, we should wait for next season, when he gets some proper training with the rest of the squad in the pre-season period.

Posted by: acid911 Apr 4 2011, 04:24 AM

I have my reasons. wink.gif The man has never done justice to his talents, and it's not like at 28 he is gonna be a a born-again champion. There is nothing in Milan that may tempt him to do otherwise, and become a totally explosive player (a difference maker, in the mold of, say, Totti). Yeah, he may win the league this year and maybe the CL next season, but that's what you get at a top club if everything is going according to plan - the other players will share the bulk of the burden. In our case, Silva, Nesta, Abate, Ibra and Pato are the guys pulling the most weight and the rest of the team follows.

While I agree with you that full fitness takes time (game time and otherwise), still he is open to prove me wrong! My point is that if Cassano still has the heart to do what he has possibly never done (sustainably, at least), then by the end of this season or at the start of the next he will become a valuable member of the team. unsure.gif If not, then he could very well take the ugly route and slack off his responsibilities. That will not mean he becomes a bad player - same goes for Robinho. Guys like these have more than enough talent. It's what they do with it will be what gets written in the story of their careers.

Posted by: Milan Are Brilliant Apr 4 2011, 09:03 AM

I actually believe this is the first time in years I've seen Robinho happy, obviously he hasn't been with us long and he was like it when he was first at Madrid. I had my doubts about him and I still think he's a tad overhyped but I do love having him in the Milan side, especially when I compare recent players in our strikeforce with players like Gilardino, Huntelaar, Oliveira etc..

No, Robinho isn't a 30 goal man, was he ever? Bar his time in Brazil, I'm still unsure why everyone berates his finishing so much on here. He doesn't really need to do that, as long as he is working hard, pulling defenders out of position and playing his part in goals I'm fine with that, we already have Zlatan & Pato to tuck them away.

As for Cassano as I said a few posts back we should really give him a chance, and that includes giving him the ability to have a full summer to work on his fitness and lose those extra pounds. If he comes back in the same condition then we are all rightly allowed to be somewhat annoyed. Though for a 28/29 year old guy under Milan's fitness instructors it should be a relative easy thing to achieve, it's all down to his motivation.

Posted by: acid911 Apr 4 2011, 05:24 PM

QUOTE (Milan Are Brilliant @ Apr 4 2011, 01:03 PM) *

That, friends and neighbors, is the key. smile.gif Well said Ash, agree with your post. At the end of the day it all comes down to motivation and desire of individual players, particularly when we are talking about guys who have a bit of a history in these matters. Frankly the ages 20-30 are the absolute peak of football players, if you can't make it in these years then there is little hope.

But all said and done, they have not done too badly here in their time in Milan. And besides, most players kick into high gear in their second year. I may only like 80% of what I am see, but there have been players who have done far worse than these two. Let's just hope they can keep it together for the remaining 7 games and bag the Scudetto.

The tricky thing is that we have Pato and Ibra, two sure starters. Otherwise, if fit, Cassano could become a regular starter for Milan in no time.

Pato is not a sure starter. He has been benched before to play Robinho instead. Next season won't be easy for Pato to bench Robinho either. So Cassano as three forwards in front of him actually. But even then, Cassano won't be a regular starter, but he had and will get regular playing time. That should be enough?

Posted by: han2503 Jun 1 2011, 10:02 AM

I think Prandelli is talking out of his @ss. What other top class strikers do Italy have at this point? Gilardino? Matri? Di Natale?

Cassano is the only really tp class attacker Italy have at this point, these are not te days when we have Totti, DP, Pippo, etc all in their prime. Di Natale never did pull it off for the Azzurri imo, while Cassano does. He's a sure pick imo if Italy want to go anywhere. Me thinks Prandelli is trying to get Antonio to go to Florence by telling him that if he doesn't play regularly, he won't get called up.

Anyways, playing time is not much an issue imo. Ibra will get his fare share of suspensions, Pato will get injured, Pippo is not considered a starter either. It's between him and Robinho, and if Robs keeps shooting blanks again next season then Cassano will jump ahead of him in the pecking order

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Jun 1 2011, 10:05 AM

I don't think Cassano will have any problem being a starter once his fitness picks up. We are really going to be playing a lot of games this season, and I think Allegri is smart with his rotation.

4 goals and 8 assists in 2 months is no joke.

The big thing here is the Cassano must get fit! Lose all that excess weight etc.

Let's not get funny, Pato is a sure starter. He's our best striker, and Allegri knows that well.

It all depends on his will to play Euro 2012 as a protagonist. Han may be right though, perhaps Prandelli's declarations were just a stunt to push him to Florence. I wouldn't mind if he leaves, as long as we cash-in €15 million.

You know it baby!! tongue.gif

But seriously here! Italy is probably at this point is at it's poorest state in terms of talent. Casting Cassano aside would be ridiculous. He along with Pirlo and that nut case Balotelli are the only really raw talented players on that team. And looking at the current crop of strikers compared to the riches of the past, one has to be an idiot to leave Cassano behind no matter how much he's played. I'm sure Cassano knows this. He got left behind in the past even when he had good seasons, just because of his tag as a bad seed in the dressing room.

Who are the strikers called up for the Azzurri atm? Whoever they are Cassano is the best one no matter which way you look at it.

But yes, G.Rossi, Cassano, Mario. Then it's downhill from there. Gila, Matri, Quagliarella, Di Natale, etc. None are good enough for an international team of Italy's calibre imo

Posted by: han2503 Jun 1 2011, 02:45 PM

Just went to get the list from the NT thread

QUOTE
Attackers: Balotelli (Manchester City), Cassano (Milan), Gilardino (Fiorentina), Giovinco (Parma), Matri (Juventus), Pazzini (Inter), Rossi (Villarreal)

Balo: Great talent, unreliable due to his crazy streak and seems to be inured a lot lately as well
Cassano: Great, always pulled it out for Italy when it mattered imo
Gilardino: Mediocre
Giovinco: Good, but I don't concider him a striker and we'll see how he turns out for Italy
Matri: Mediocre
Pazzini: Choker but decent
Rossi: Great

That's only 3 really top class players in there, for a NT of Italy's stature in world football, that's really bad, and to drop Cassano would be just madness imo

Posted by: X-Offender Jun 1 2011, 02:48 PM

I think Italy has a bunch of interesting players, and Prandelli is doing a good job. Of course, the names of big caliber are almost absent, but as Germany teaches, sometimes you don't need big names to become successful.

Posted by: kurtsimonw Jun 1 2011, 04:03 PM

I think it's harsh to call Matri mediocre. Some players can't cope with the pressure of a big club, yet he's carried Juve single-handedly for the last 5 months. Without him they'd have finished bottom half.

That set of players is fine. Not many countries have a tonne of top class forwards anymore, 3 is alot. England only have 2.

Cassano was the captain of Italy for the game against Spain.

Cassano- "I want to thank Gigi, the Coach and my teammates for that wonderful gesture of handing me the armband. I went for the warm-up and came back to the locker room to see the armband on my seat. I said they’d made a mistake, but it turns out they’d talked it over beforehand to give me this amazing gift. Aside from being a great captain and a player, Gigi is a great man. We're next to each other on intl duty always, so he's a saint!"

Gigi Buffon explains why it was “natural” to give Antonio Cassano the captain’s armband against Spain.
The Bari native revealed he was surprised when coming back from the warm-up at his hometown stadium, the San Nicola, to find the armband on his locker.

“In all honesty, these are natural gestures and it came to mind yesterday. It seemed fairly normal considering it was a friendly and he’d care about this,” smiled the goalkeeper after Italy’s 2-1 victory.

“For me it’s an honour to wear the armband, but this squad has many captains. If we can give this honour to someone else on a special occasion, then I’m happy.

“It was such a natural issue that there’s no need to even comment on it. There’s mutual respect and affection between us all. If we had played in Brescia, then Andrea Pirlo would’ve had the armband.”

However, Buffon admitted there was also something more to giving Cassano a sense of responsibility.

“Behind that gesture there was also the meaning of what he can do for this team. Maybe even Antonio doesn’t know how much he matters to us in the locker room and on the field.

“He must know it’s up to him to be strong, do the work and be ready for Euro 2012.”

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has told Antonio Cassano what he has to do to make sure of his place at Euro 2012.

There were suggestions that the attacker could consider a summer move seeing as he isn’t guaranteed first team football at Milan.

However, the Azzurri tactician has told him that he doesn’t necessarily need to play in every game to win his call.

“It’s not important whether he is guaranteed a first team shirt or not,” the former Fiorentina boss stated.

“What is key is that he maintains a good physical condition. If that happens then I wouldn’t be surprised if he is always playing by the end of the season.”

Cassano has some real tough competition for a place at Milanello given the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato and Robinho amongst others.

‘Cassano at Milan until 2014’

QUOTE
The agent of Antonio Cassano doesn’t expect to be dealing with his client’s future over the next seven days. “He’ll stay at Milan.”

The Italian international has been linked with a Rossoneri exit for most of the summer, but Beppe Bozzo believes he will remain at Milanello.

“Milan are a great club and before you leave you’d have to think about it a thousand times,” the representative noted.

“I imagine that Antonio’s future will be with Milan until 2014 and, although there are no certainties, I hope that he honours his contract.”

Cassano was rumoured to be considering his options given that he isn’t guaranteed a first team shirt at the club ahead of Euro 2012.

Cassano "needs further tests"

There is some confusion over Antonio Cassano’s condition, as Milan confirm he “is not well yet and needs further tests,” while his agent is more reassuring.
It’s still not clear what happened when the 29-year-old was taken ill as the team arrived at Malpensa Airport from Rome after Saturday’s 3-2 win.

There are reports he had a fainting spell in which he struggled to speak or move effectively, so was kept in hospital overnight and will be in the Policlinico in Milan for at least another night.

“Cassano is still not well and we need to perform further tests,” confirmed Milan chief medic Rudi Tavana.

However, Cassano’s agent was more reassuring, even if he released further details of what exactly happened.

“Antonio has recovered all his normal functions,” Beppe Bozzo told Sky Sport Italia.

“Now he can speak normally and no longer has problems, not with his sight nor his balance.”

Clearly Cassano will not travel with the rest of the Milan squad for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to BATE Borisov.

This is the second strange injury to strike the Rossoneri, as Gennaro Gattuso could require surgery and an early retirement after suffering from Sixth Nerve Palsy, a condition that turns one eye outwards and causes double vision.

Cassano illness update from Milan

Milan have reassured anxious fans that Antonio Cassano is on the road to recovery after being struck by a mystery illness.

Cassano has been hospitalised after he started to feel unwell on the flight home to Milan after Saturday’s 3-2 win at former club Roma.

The Italian international is understood to have encountered speech problems on the plane, as well as difficulty in moving.

The 29-year-old has and will continue to undergo tests in a Milan clinic, but the Rossoneri are confident that the player is doing well.

“I spoke to Cassano five minutes ago and he was in a good mood,” Vice-President Adriano Galliani told Sky Sport Italia. “He seems calm.

“Cassano is strong and will certainly recover. The whole squad is supporting him.”

Galliani, though, refused to go into too much detail regarding what has actually happened to the former Sampdoria player.

“Every patient has a right to privacy and this is the case for Antonio too,” Galliani continued in the interview.

“There are doctors there and they are looking after him. I can’t give a diagnosis.

“I don’t know how long it will take for him to return. I’m not a medic, that is not my profession. He’s being looked after.”

Gattuso? What about him? His problem isn't that serious and his career is almost over, regardless of the illness.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Nov 3 2011, 05:51 AM

I don't get that part...so we don't wish him well coz he's no longer a player??

Posted by: acid911 Nov 3 2011, 06:15 AM

I don't know man, X-Off's post wasn't that bad, really. I mean, he plays horribly and looks horrible (because of the thing he had to cover his eyes with). Sure I wouldn't have said it, but then again I'm a different type. tongue.gif It did not came across as a comment with malice, and definitely not as harsh/hard a word you hear on other fan forums.

Obviously, it's a bad thing to wish ill on anyone, even on players one doesn't like (it's a sports after all, knock knock). But you know there comes a time when players are way downhill from what they were at their peak. Like it or not, that's just how the game is now-a-days. sad.gif Anyone that turns over 30 starts the journey into the west, some slower, some quicker, basically it depends on how fast a star burns. As midfielders and attackers go, they really should know when to call it quits, and hand over the reigns to the younger players, just like they themselves got their chance many a moons back.

It's only when a player holds the club back the problem arises. And I mean, intentionally or otherwise, or senators are holding us back from becoming what we can. Majorly because of the management, the coach not trusting younger players, and the bigwigs not buying new players for the sole reason that they think they have a good enough squad. sleep.gif That's where the frusturation creeps in. Because if you hate a whole bunch of players that much, you really are following the wrong club then.

I don't think Boateng is nearly as good as players we had before him in that position, but you can see the difference he made. Tell me you want to play Amrbo or Gattuso in his stead still. wink.gif When did Seedorf last put in a match turning performance that took the contest by it's neck, shook it and turned it around? The best they can do is give their all and well, not fudge things up. And that can (and has been) be scary.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Nov 3 2011, 06:22 AM

Well Ambro was great under Leonardo as the DM. Gattuso was good last season. Our only option on the right of midfield and he did a great job covering up for Abate. And I don't really need to talk abotu Seedorf? Match turning performance? Last season he put in a scudetto winning performance over a series of games.

And am I the only one who things Rino simply means, he does not want his career to end like this? Due to a freak injury, but rather end in graceful retirement on the football pitch?! unsure.gif

Let's not go there. unsure.gif I was a big, big fan of the guy. And then 2007 ended.

And am I the only one who things Rino simply means, he does not want his career to end like this? Due to a freak injury, but rather end in graceful retirement on the football pitch?!

Surely not, and best of luck to Gattuso, not just for the thought, but coming back to the pitch and exiting like he entered it all those years back. smile.gif Even though I still think the time of grace had come and gone, I mean, last year was as good a chance to say goodbye after winning the Scudetto. I know, I know he had a year left on his contract.

Maybe the senators thought that they still had another shot at the title, and they still do. But surely they have to make a decision (as hard as it is) sooner rather than later. I mean, what's stopping them playing till 50 then, most of our champions definitely do have the heart for it.

Even substitute apperances aren't the solution, you just have to say goodbye someday, right? huh.gif What hurts me is the transfer strategy (and grooming the youth) of the club. Why do they have to leave it till the very end. Seedorf, Gattuso, Nesta, everyone should have taken certain players under their wings and given them to the club as their replacement. You know the Australian Cricket team and how they do things around there. When a captain leaves, there is another one to take his place. When an opening batsman leaves, there are two younger ones.

If you do things in patches (the seniors in our main core group are all 35), things get rough. Anyway, I don't think meaning harm for anyone does wonders for a person wishing it. And besides, anyone wearing club colors deserves respect, let alone players who have earned it over a course of a decade. Cassano, Gattuso, get well soon. And fast.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Nov 3 2011, 12:04 PM

You know, I really stay puzzled with some comments or thoughts. For instance, how can one be a fan of Seedorf till 2007 and then stop? I really don't think it's possible.

The negative comments about Gattuso at this point are just childish and malicious. I get that people become irritated when Allegri plays Gattuso on and on while he doesn't exactly shine, or when he makes mistakes...but now, at this moment? Really unnecessary. Let's try behave like gentleman for once.

Not stopped, it's just his performance graph has really dipped after our CL win. sad.gif That was when a lot of our first XI felt that they've conqured it all, and then it started showing when we couldn't qualify for the competition the next season and finished fourth after that, and then further journey into oblivion.

I mean, the footballing genius Seedorf has acquired all these years hasn't gone anywhere, it's still there. But it's plain evident he can't keep it up, not when it matters the most. As a number 10 (figuratively speaking, of course, I know he doesn't get to see the pitch that often now-a-days), he is the pivotal point of the attack.

Anyway, I have always believed a player leaving the game at his absolute peak, on his own terms is legendary. Those who stay longer, should still have a plan in place to set sail, a lot of our seniors haven't discussed it in public (Paolo used to). If they can, they'd probably stay on for another 3-4 years on the same contract. Ah, vanity!

Heck, even Facebook gives you an option to unlike people. tongue.gif laugh.gif I kid. I kid. But really half-way through the 30s is a delaying the inevitable long enough for most footballers - unless they are super special ones. We can (and should) have a couple of senior players in the dressing room, just to balance things out. However, the reigns ought to be trasnferred to the next lot to keep up the club's winning ways.

Rui Costa's last season with us wasn't bad enough by any means, the maestro still had it in him. But the gentleman that he was still chose to gracefully shake hands and say goodbye. The seniors we have in our team can probably get any backroom job they want, anywhere - they were collectively the best of Europe for a few good years, after all.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Nov 3 2011, 12:49 PM

Well, then we just disagree. I think it's a privilege to see the players you like play as long as possible. When they are finally gone, I'd wish one more season of them or a few more matches, even if it means they make me angry from time to time. And IMO we're overreacting with Seedorf - he has deteriorated, but by all means, he gives more then he takes, he still is more useful then harmful.

Nowadays, you really cannot say there are many players who hang their boots at their peak. Not many.

As for Costa, he was a great player, but he's sometimes glorified more then he deserves. He deteriorated: at Fiorentina he scored and played a vital role, while at Milan Kaka clearly benched him and he simply lost his touch for the finish, I remember him wasting chances and struggling to hit the target. Then, he didn't exactly retire but go to Benfica where he now occupies a very tempting post. I wouldn't call it all gentlemenship, his departure that is.

One more thing: I'm sure Seedorf would leave Milan the moment we'd find someone like Kaka. Boban left because he knew Rui was on his way, Rui left because Kaka made a big impact and benched him - always mind that line. Now, is there really someone to replace Seedorf? If Eriksen comes, I'm positive Seedorf will either leave or accept a small bench role.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Nov 3 2011, 12:53 PM

Funny you should say Eriksen now. I was all for Hazard till I saw how Zanetti had him in his pocket in the highlights reel. sad.gif

Belive me, when I say that I too would like to see the players play as long as possible. sad.gif I should know, seeing as my "Favorite Five" retired within the same generation. But it's just not possible. Just one of those stupid universal laws. Ultimately I think an year or two here and there doesn't matter. It's going to end someday, everything does.

I wanted Maldini to play another year, I wanted Ronaldo to play another four. But they were sane enough, in the end.

As for Cassano, the only thing he’s distraught about is not being able to kick a ball. He watched the BATE game from his hospital room, and used the visit of youth team Coach Stefano Eranio to express his annoyance at how many chances were missed. With this open letter Antonio Cassano would like to thank everyone for the wonderful support he has received over the last few days.

QUOTE
Dear friends, I just wanted to express my gratitude, on behalf of myself and my family, for the well wishes that have poured in over the last few days. Whatever sadness or difficulty I felt was soon replaced by the show of affection from people all over the world. The President, Silvio Berlusconi, Adriano Galliani, Massimiliano Allegri, the doctors Tavana and Mazzoni, all the staff, my team mates and everyone involved at Milan have constantly been close to me. Thanks to them and the doctors who have taken care of me I was able to face this strange 'injury' with courage.

I would like to send out a hug to all those who have shown their support and made me feel important by coming to the Policlinico of Milan or through the numerous messages sent to me. I would like to dedicate a huge thank you to all the people at Real Madrid, particularly the President Florentino Perez and the coach Josè Mourinho.

Now I will rest as much as possible at home and will be glued to the television when Milan are playing, or when Italy are playing. Also I will be following the developments in Genoa, a city that remains in my heart and that I know will soon recover from problems of recent days. I will do the same and I promise that I will be back on the pitch as soon as possible.

Big hug to everyone, and thanks!

Antonio Cassano

I have to say, he has become one of my favorite players for us. I have always rated him, but to see how much positive energy he emits on the field/bench/clubhouse he is truly infectious! I'm not sure that my ideal top 2 don't include him and Ibra. They have a great chemistry, and while not a clinical finisher, he offers SO MUCH MORE then robinho. Prof. Bresolin on Cassano.

"I believe that Cassano can make the EURO but the April talk is too soon".

QUOTE
Cesare Prandelli looks ahead to Euro 2012 with an Antonio Di Natale-Mario Balotelli partnership and “Antonio Cassano could come as our 24th man.”

The Coach has to revamp his squad for the tournament, as first choice strikers Giuseppe Rossi and Cassano race against time to recover from knee and heart surgery respectively.

“I have told both that I’m ready to wait for them until the last minute of the last day,” Prandelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“I will go to Spain to check up on Pepito’s progress. I spoke for a long time with Antonio and we exchanged more than a few promises.

“We haven’t even ruled out that he could come as our 24th man, seeing as he made such a decisive contribution to our qualification.”

In the meantime, the tactician has to find players who can start at Euro 2012 and he is considering a new ‘odd couple’ to be tested in a friendly against USA.

“Di Natale and Balotelli complete each other. As for Francesco Totti, I’ll keep him in mind. I’d like to praise Daniele De Rossi for his decision to stay in Italy and at Roma.”

Prandelli also confirmed he has no intention of staying on the Italy bench past the 2014 World Cup.

“I have another two years left on my contract, but I do feel that desire to get back to working at a club. Abroad? Yes, that is an option I’d take into consideration.”

Just one more hurdle for Cassano

Antonio Cassano is a step closer to playing football again after getting the all clear from the Italian Federation of Sporting Doctors.

A panel of 10 medical experts examined his case today after the Milan man had minor heart surgery last autumn.

The attacker hasn’t played since last October when he fell ill on the flight home from Milan’s 3-2 win over Roma.

After undergoing a series of tests, Cassano was forced to undergo an operation in order to resolve the issue.

Today’s news means that the Italian international, who has resumed full training, now just needs clearance from the Istituto di Medicina Sportiva dell'Acqua Acetosa to resume his career.

Cassano is hungry to prove his fitness and form in time for Italy’s Euro 2012 bid.

Cassano: 'Words wouldn't come out'
By Football Italia staff

Antonio Cassano gave a rare interview and shed tears on his dramatic year, missing out on the Scudetto and waving goodbye to so many Milan teammates.

FantAntonio’s career and even life were in the balance in late October when he suffered an ischemic stroke on the way back from a 3-2 win away to Roma, but has returned to the playing field five months after undergoing heart surgery.

“I like to help others and so I don’t really enjoy talking about myself,” confessed Cassano on Milan Channel.

“I felt good after the Roma game and was happy to be on the pitch, even if I’d only come off the bench. On the plane I caused absolute chaos and felt great.

“All of a sudden after stepping off the bus that transports you from the plane to the terminal, I felt really dizzy and couldn’t see out of my left eye. The doctor said he’d take me to hospital, but I didn’t want to and we argued about it for half an hour.

“When we finally decided, on the journey to the hospital I started having problems speaking. I could think clearly, but the words weren’t coming out. At that moment I thought about my son, to see him one more time...” said Cassano when fighting back tears.

“I was so pleased to receive so much affection from everyone, both in the football world and outside of it. They had understood I am crazy, but still honest and authentic.

“My son and my wife were the fundamental elements for me and I always asked the doctors to tell me the absolute truth. I am glad the medics were always very clear with me.

“I am not a believer in God, but before I used to take His name in vain a lot. Now, after the heart problem, I can’t seem to do it anymore, not even in thought. Maybe it’s destiny I came back to the field just before Easter.

“I feel good with everyone here, from the youngest kid to the most important star. I think Alexandre Pato is potentially the second best player in the world behind Leo Messi and hope his injuries can be over with so he can get back on top.

“When I had been at Milan for 10 days it felt like Paradise, but now it’s even better, as they treat you like a King. Those who leave Milan tend to immediately regret it.”

Those could include Gennaro Gattuso, Pippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Nesta, who have all confirmed they will not be renewing their contracts this summer.

“It’s very sad for me, as these lads are abandoning us and will regret it straight away. It’s true there are times in which everyone has to make choices, as Nesta explained yesterday. I believe that he could’ve still done well here by cutting down on the number of games, but it was his decision and a big loss to us. I’d like to talk him into changing his mind.

“As for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, when we’ve got the ball, it’s like we won’t let others into our playpen. We have two strange heads on our shoulders, but we get along and love to play together. Ibra does well to fire up Milan. He can do what he wants, as long as he scores!”

The Rossoneri missed out on the Scudetto and Cassano congratulated Juventus for their victory, but added there were reasons behind the defeat.

“We had a million injuries and without those probably would’ve been six or seven points clear. We are the strongest team in Italy, clearly in front of the rest. We haven’t been as consistent as Juve this season, but we start next term aiming to win everything.

“I only know how to talk about football, as I have no alternatives! I follow every League and that causes some rows with my wife, because I’d never stop watching football.”

He'd like to talk Nesta into changing his mind... how can anyone not love this crazy son of a b1tch? king.gif

We are already losing one idiot who was a far better player and infinitely more useful. If he doesn't see thiese times as a challenge and want to prove his worth then out with the junk part II sleep.gif

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Jul 13 2012, 02:27 PM

Yes, the rumours of Boateng and Cassano wanting to leave if true are very disappointing.

They were going nowhere fast, turning into true wastes of talent when they were purchased. Our club took the gamble on them, and now suddenly they're better than the club?! Pfft...please! rolleyes.gif

Posted by: kurtsimonw Jul 13 2012, 02:32 PM

Not better. Just have more ambition.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Jul 13 2012, 02:48 PM

More ambition??

Coz being in second division Portsmouth and frozen out of (now) relegated Sampdoria were their respective positions when they were purchased by Milan.

Yes they came out well, but then I think they owed us that much don't you think?

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Jul 13 2012, 02:53 PM

Especially Cassano who, unrelated to Silva and Ibra leaving, openly flirted with Sampdoria. Now, Cassano was and will be one of my soft spots, yet I can't say he's behaving appropriate.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Jul 13 2012, 03:22 PM

Yes. But none of the players have come out and said anything, so I will not chastise them. It is mostly media mucking things up.

At least the tweets from KPB makes it sound like he's happy.

Posted by: X-Offender Jul 13 2012, 05:02 PM

I don't think there's anything true about Boateng. As for Robinho and Cassano, I think they want to leave, but for different reasons. Now, whilst I can see Robinho being shipped to Santos happening, I don't think we'll let go of Cassano that easily. He has two years left from his contract to respect, he's in really good shape, and Sampdoria don't have the means necessary to sign him. I'm pretty confident he'll stay.

Hate to be the one defending management (especially now) but C@$$ano is the last person to have the right to be thinking this way. A $h!t Milan is infinitely better than a Sampdoria bench. Period. Plus when talent leaves the genuinely world class players relish the challenge. iBra didn't mourn Ronaldinho's loss, Kaka didn't toss the toys out of the pram when $heva left. He has no excuse

Posted by: X-Offender Jul 13 2012, 06:31 PM

I just think he wants to go back to Sampdoria for sentimental purposes. Ibra's sale doesn't have anything to do with it.

Well as with all things I tend to blame $#!tlegri for undervaluing Ron....but the point is/was that the loss in quality of Milan - (Ron+ Ladri scum) didn't deter iBra.

To me THAT was a real champion - trying to win no matter the obstacle(s)

It's obvious to me that Cassano will see out the remaining 2 years on his contract and then walk for free to Samp. he won't be able to contribute to us past 32 anyway. right now he has to stay even if he prefers to go back to a lazier place.

I don't know if he will go to Samp, but he sure could lose his motivation even if he ended up staying... He is that type of player. Does whatever the f@ck he wants at any given moment. A Cassano with a deflated motivation is a minus for a any team.

I didn't. innocent.gif I just consider him a very talented player, but a very naughty human. How he faltered and wasted himself at other big clubs, Roma, Madrid and more, it's somewhat depressing, if anything. So much raw talent, but so much raw wastage to go with it. Makes you respect the less talented but hardworking players.

And now instead of settling in a big club like Milan he's planning a way out. Way to go!

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Jul 18 2012, 09:12 PM

Naughty is one thing. I can handle naughty; but he's not just that. He's being disrespectful and ungracious. It hasn't been very long and he was a free agent who wasn't exactly on anyone's priority list. Milan made him come back, believed him even during his recuperation period.

I agree. I remember Allegri saying, "I hope to give a fully fit Cassano to Prandelli!". The whole club did a lot for him, and now he's like, "I dunno. Maybe I'll go away."

I do not pay much attention to what Cassano says. I think he is a very good player and I actually find him a likeable person (if you ignore the occasional “Cassanata”). However, I fear he is a bit lacking in what people these days call EQ, so he just says what he feels at the moment without considering the implications. As a result, he provides lots of material for journalists.

Yes, this is what I thought during the Euros.

I personally think Pato is more a #9 than a #7 but why should he change the number he's had for 4 years? (apart from superstitious reasons like the bad luck with injuries)

Oh, well, whatever his shirt number's gonna be, it will be vacated soon so why do I care. that kind of thing is history at Milan now.

Apparently there was a long and intense discussion between Allegri and Cassano at the end of the training session today in the US, the contents of which are unknown, but it's very possible that Allegri told him now that Silva and Ibra are gone it's up to him to become an important leader of this team.

Cassano: Nothing better than Inter
By Football Italia staff

Antonio Cassano says he’s realised a dream after completing a move to Inter – the team of his heart.

The Italian has today been confirmed as a Nerazzurri player after a swap deal with Giampaolo Pazzini was agreed with Milan.

“After an eternity, I have arrived at the club which I support,” Cassano, who was a known Beneamata supporter as a boy, told Inter Channel.

“It’s important for me. It doesn’t get better than joining the club which you are a fan of. I have re-found my smile.”

Cassano has moved to the other side of San Siro after he asked Milan to sell him after just 18 months at the Meazza.

“The most important thing for me now is to get into the best shape, starting with the game at Pescara,” he noted.

The former Bari, Roma, Real Madrid and Sampdoria player also confirmed which jersey he’ll have on his back this term.

“I’ll wear the No 99 shirt,” he added. “I told the club that the number means a lot to me.”

Cassano had the same squad number at Sampdoria and Milan.

Lol... I almost feel sorry for him. ZERO DIGNITY.
