(from his tribute page on acmilan.com) (IMG: http://i34.tinypic.com/zjz8yf.jpg) Marco Van Basten, born in 1964, was probably one of the strongest and most complete strikers in the history of football. The Dutchman could run 100 meters in less than 11 seconds, could dribble, run, had technique, was acrobatic and precise and had a great vision of the game. In his repertory of goals there were any number of solutions and his class was cristallized when he 'danced' with the ball like a ballerina (which is how he got his nickname, 'the Swan of Utrecht'). At Milan from 87/88, he won the first scudetto of the Berlusconi era. In Sacchi's Milan he became an unstoppable force. Playing 147 games in Serie A (90 goals) and 54 games in Cups (34 goals). He won 4 scudetti, 3 Champions Cups (CL) and 2 Intercontinental Cups. In testimony of his power, he also won the Pallon d'Or three times. Because of trouble with his ankle, after three operations Marco Van Basten retired from football in 1995. -- MVB deserves a thread too!

Damn...if Milan Lab had come a little earlier, he'd be still playing.

Happy birthday, MvB! Hopefully someday you come here and make us play a brand of football that you and your teammates were famous for... QUOTE (Tennie @ Oct 31 2008, 06:12 AM) My favorite Van Basten goal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm1Ui5n_3oY...feature=relatedOne of the most spectacular goals I've ever seen. It's like everyone's favorite Van Basten goal (IMG: style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It still looks amazing after two decades. this is not the case with many of those years' goals. goals that one can imagine wouldn't have been scored if today's defenses/GKs were there... P.S.: I honestly think this comes very close to MvB's goal. I mean dribbling past two defenders and lobbing the ball like that when Gigi is in goal...

It's not bad, zd, but even Shevchenko at his best for Milan was (IMO) no real comparison to Van Basten. Yes, I know myself to be biased, but no Milan striker has come close to MVB's brilliance as far as I'm concerned.

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Well, I was born in '86 so I don't remember anything about Van Basten (I have no idea how Jack does as he's only one year older than me (IMG: style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ). I've seen only his clips, etc. so I'm not going to argue about it. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

When I once said the same thing you did...R7 dragged me by the ear to a shop which had archived Serie A games footage on videotapes. I've never known doubt since.
Seriously. I mean with MvB the game was so simple, all you had to do was pass the ball to him and he'd score. Do you remember Carlo's interview when he says the same thing and says Kaka reminds him a little of that when he is in top form?
And THAT team had a beast of a mid-field with Frank, Ruud, the Don and even Carlo. No need to talk about the defence. Man...I think that's the greatest team that ever was!! It was the original galatico team, and more importantly it was a team, not 11 superstars.

In light of my latest calculations, he's well over 80 years of age, give or take 5. I was born in 1985. I've got proof via PMs he's sent me that mention him recalling things decades ago. Meaning when he says '85' it means he's 85, not born in that year. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Kapeesh?
