Back to business, hoping to see an improvement over what we saw in mid-week.

Hopefully we'll have a team left by then because it sounds like they're falling off like flies

If we're gonna keep playing with 4-2-3-1 then I'd like to see Honda a bit more retracted in midfield.

On paper it looks good, I'm hoping we don't see the disjointedness between the defence + midfield from the other 4 because that's what ultimately killed us

As Jack said, to avoid this, we need De Jong and Montolivo to be both top. Much depends on them.

But seriously, if my prediction is right and Seedorf took the path of van Gaal, we shouldn't expect him to change his tactics any soon. In fact, right till the end.

I think the midfield pivot is too underrated in the 4-2-3-1. And instead emphasis is placed too much on the defensive contribution of wingers.

The best example in current world football to me is the Khedira/Alonso combo. You need a runner-tackler and a distributor.

The closest we came to that is the Pirlo-Rino combo.

The wingers don't have to be defensive. Just not stupid. In a 4-2-3-1 (and IMO in any football team) the most crucial component is the fullback. If we had genuine wingers they kind of force the opposition to be honest. We have 3 players who everyone knows is going to make a run for the centre. But at the same time if we had the benefit of a Maldini and Cafu at either end, then it wouldn't matter coz if the opposition tried to crowd the centre in anticipation of the 3 AMs, our fullbacks would rip them open a new assh0le. But they couldn't counter down the wings (even if 3 AMs are not defensive the sheer quantity of players makes an attack down the center impossible), coz it was f@CKIN Maldini and Cafu and all of world football is their b!tch.

Meanwhile everyone today also knows our double pivot can just be bypassed because DeJong is not a terrier and Montolivo is no Xabi Alonso. He is more of a Carrick. And our fullbacks are well... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cry.gif)

Tbh, while the 4-2-3-1 works for me on FIFA, I always suspected whether it would in real life, and I'm worried it doesn't. To commiserate I now play with Milan on a 4-1-4-1. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Carrick has less technique but more balls. So I couldn't disagree with you completely. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
