Hi all,

We have noticed a number of signatures are becoming enormous and for people on slower connections it's selfish having to load up a load of images when all they want to do is read some text.

So as for now signatures which are inexplicably big will be removed with no prior warning, if replaced a temporary/permanent ban maybe enforced.

New sig rules will come into place on the release of V2, this will help people know what can be in the sig and what can't, what size etc.

There is no need to fill up half a page with a sig, just keep to common sense.

Well I like Henry and he is a superb player in a general point of view. and Arsenal is also equally my favorite team. so is it a problem for me to have henry in my sig??
also i want to convey thru the sig that he deserves the Euro playa of tha year.

No!, we don't care what you have in your sig (within reason), it's just the size that's all from looking at it for the moment your signature is fine

No, yours is probably fine. Besides, once the sig is cached, it's loaded instantly (even on dial-up).

Is there a ban on sig changes at the moment or something? Tried to change mine a few times to something similar, or even smaller, than my current one, bt it always says it's too big..

Talk about it. We've got avatars as large as 3.81 MB (yeah, you, Kurt, and Mishe too, LOL) and there's a pesky little limit on signatures. When I was on dial-up it took me ~19 minutes to download 3.81 MB, hehe. That's that, but then you can't even put five very small images as signatures (as in signature bars). I've been through the same boat, you're now in Kurt - it always said it's too big.

His sig/avatar say some 'heavy' things. Literally speaking, of course. Anyway, I want these limits to be extended or removed altogether (obviously unless someone puts up a 1000px signature), because well I've got some really special signatures that are waiting in the wing, some awesome GIF animations, and more. And being the head of the HR department here in the forums, I have to speak my mind.

Plus, once the image is downloaded once and cached, it loads instantly every time after that.

Why can't I attach a signature that's no more than 300px wide without getting a "too big/wide" warning, while there are ginormous signatures across the board here (Dracoris' immediately comes to mind)? It's pissing me off.

I thought from memory it was something to do with the filesize of the signature, i.e. it's too large a filesize.

Though, I did have some issues when I recently updated mine, and that's a size of 375px x 150px therefore the limitations of signatures may have been adjusted through the admin control panel recently. The people who have them at the moment I imagine haven't updated them for a while.

Hmm - just had a look at this. The limits are currently 150:500:200 (SIZE(kb):WIDTH(px):HEIGHT(px)). If anyone has a sig that falls outside of either of these values, then it's probably because they had it before these came into effect (not sure when this was - quite a while ago though!).

Djeez. EVERYONE can make that conclusion within a second, but isn't a bit unfair, stupid, not consistent, etc. if some still can keep those big sigs while others can't? Either one of the two needs to adapt to the others.

Not nearly as weird, Mike. Something similar happened to me an year or so back, and various images of various sizes and dimensions did not go through. All were withing the acceptable limits. I dashed it all, and went ahead with my current signature (the day Maldini retired), which surprisingly was accepted.

Luckily, for a guy who changed signatures almost once a week, I've decided to stick with this one for all eternity. But anyway, it would be good if you can spare a few minutes and look into things, maybe there is some sneaky setting in the Admin panel that's causing the trouble!?

I'm almost certain there's a problem, but if I can't replicate it, it's difficult to fix. If someone could link me to a sig that they've tried to use (and got an error), that would be great.

True. Well my story is of the 'Age of Maldini', when he was playing an year or so back. Even if I had that particular signature image it probably will be on my other computer, not this laptop. But I am sure Miz or abanovac can help you with this and send over that particular file that's having trouble getting accepted.

Frankly though there shouldn't be a signature limit (unless you know some member comes in and pastes a signature as large as a dinosaur). I still recall a few animated avatars here (Kurt and Mishie I am talking to you ), those were well over a MB or two in size. You know those converted from goal videos, etc. Once they load, they stay in the cache. Same should be the case with signatures. Another instance I recall was putting in 6 userbars, and it did not accept those at all (while at other forums there was no problem). We talked about this while that chat applet thing was going on here. I guess a limit should be there, just to be on the safe side, but it must have ample and accommodating room in terms of size and number of images, etc.

Anyway, do take a look into it once someone sends you a particular image so you can pinpoint the problem. Running a place like this takes a lot of dedication, so take your time, mate!

How 'bout my sig as an example? I tried to put the actual images into the signature entry space, but I got some weird message that looked like it had several different issues.

Oh, and m1ke? What if we had an option to have only an image in the sig, but that it could be entered with the same type of thing ESPN.com uses? Like a text bar with a "Browse" button next to it that automatically opened the Photos file in the user's computer. Maybe that would work.

Just a thought!

The problem is none of us bar Mike truly know, I've had success in getting signatures on other people's before where they have failed so if you have an image that you wanted to use I'd be more than happy to try and get it on for you.
