QUOTE (Nova @ Apr 13 2008, 01:29 AM)
If we fail to reach 4th spot I prefer that Milan doesnt even play Uefa Cup . Whats the point winning a cup in a final played against CL rejects ? And who says we're gonna win it  ? Like we needed penalties to beat Roda JC the last time ? NO thanks !!
Just concentrate 100% on the scudetto next season and ONLY the scudetto.

And we can start by getting rid of useless players (favalli , gila , ...) and get some class player worthy of the Milan shirt.

They do that and Im a happy man.

Wow...I think this the kidna arrogance that maneuvered us in this "bad" situation in the first place...

I would not exactly term it arrogance, Palm. Arrogance is playing Kalac when your No 1 is ready and available. It is not playing Gorcuff when all your creative players are out injured (Seedorf, Kaka and Pirlo). Arrogance is blocking the transfer of Ribbery, when we could have used his style. It is asking for a shadow player like Emerson. Arrogance is Galliani coming out and giving every one of his interviews. Or Berlusconi busy with his election shtick instead of concentrating on Milan. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

You and Nova, both are right on a number of counts, though. We've made a bucketload of mistakes in the last 2-3 years, and something needs to be done to get things back on track. Unfortunately, it's not happening. And wasn't it the UEFA SuperCup and World Club Cup which made us rest key players and lose important points the whole season? UEFA Cup won't be much different, though not playing it sounds charming (so we don't have any excuse not to concentrate on the league), but still it won't be a classy thing to do. Again...how can we be THAT arrogant to say "ahh...the UEFA Cup...hmmm....no thanks, we're better than this". We should stop to close our eyes and scream "No...we're the best, we're the best....". Nova is right when he says that the UEFA Cup is a place for CL wannabes. And that's exactly what we are atm.
Plus, you're saying the UEFA Super Cup and the CWC were our problems and next season it might be the UEFA Cup. The point is. There will be no Super Cup or CWC for us next season (which wouldn't have been a prob in the first place if we would have bought players).
Should we only play the league and the Coppa? Did we become that narrow minded and arrogant to say that we don't need european competition (and let it be in UEFA Cup)? I hope we're not. The CL is something we took for granted in the last couple of years...but it's not. It's a competition you deserve after a lot og hard work in the league. We didn't work hard this year...

That was exactly my point. A no for the UEFA Cup would be the last thing I'd expect from a classy club as Milan. If fate has it we play the competition, then we all should accept it and support our team. Even though I'd prefer Rome 2009. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

And you're right in saying that much of this could have been avoided with at least 2 good signings every transfer window. Which, of course, didn't happen.

Well if you twist my words La palma , ok ...

The main reason I would prefer Milan not to play the Uefa Cup , is so that we can fully concentrate on the serie A.

But since you read what you wanna read ... Plus how you quote only me when Kurt & porty kinda agreed with me too. Classy boy , classy . (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Ha, thanks buddy. Can't wait for the next couple of months to be over - we're in for some discussions here at MilanFan during the transfer window. Being the neutral guy that I am, should be quite fun unlike last summer. Why are we still talking about Milan rejecting UEFA cup? I've said it...it's like talking why Ancelotti shouldn't substitute the suspended Ambrosini..

QUOTE (mishale @ Apr 13 2008, 05:52 AM)
2. Nobody has the right to tell 'retire' to Maldini. He's one of the greatest players and symbols in Milan history and he'll retire when he'd feel that he can't do it anymore. Maldini thinking first of all about the team (even at his 1000 match he prefered to play as a sub in order not to make too much fuss about it as the team was before the first game against Arsenal and he didn't want to unsettle them. That is a litle example of his great personality). Paolo at 40, wasn't supposed to be a constant starter and a saviour of the team but someone who gives extra and brings hsi enormous experience. The fact that he has no proper replacement at all in the squad is our management fault (we should have two world class CB plus Paolo and not one WC(Nesta)+ Paolo +bunch of mediocre defenders). But even so he's still a great player as he showed at Arsenal game or for those who are saying that he's like this for over two yers might remember his great CL performances last year instead of waiting for some mistakes in order to say how they were right in the first place. Respect for legends like Paolo that did so much for the club is one of the things that separates Milan from other teams and a very important part (Madrid would throw him away a long time ago and you can take Hierro as an example).

I'm not entirely sure about rejecting UEFA Cup, however, I agree 100% that our main objective next season is to win Serie A.

I mean we can use new or existent young players, e.g. Paloschi, Grimi, Gourcuff and Darmian maybe let them play in UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia. i. Most senior players will focus on Serie A.

QUOTE (Tennie)
It may come as a surprise to some, but I agree with Porty's comment. Milan has become too arrogant for its own good. This season will hopefully kick some humility into the team.

True. It's like global warming; we knew it was coming but chose to finally get all concerned about it only when it actually happened.

Winning the CL last year only stalled the rebuilding process for a year (you know the age-old mantra in sports about not breaking up a championship team). Now that we're actually at risk of missing the CL next year, B&G will spend huge on big-name, out-of-form quick fixes (i.e. Dinho, Sheva) instead of getting to the heart of the problem. If that's to be believed, that bugs me more than our sluggishness during this stretch of the season.
