Rossoneri turn to Bendtner Wednesday 2 July, 2008 Milan cannot afford Emmanuel Adebayor, but they are instead holding negotiations for youngster Nicklas Bendtner.
Today general manager Adriano Galliani confirmed they simply could not pay the £35m requested for Adebayor and pulled out of talks for the Togo international.
However, the two clubs are still in communication over the possible transfer of a striker to San Siro this summer.
It is reported that 20-year-old Bendtner is eager to leave the Gunners so that he can play more first team football.
Milan would give him the opportunity to gain experience in Serie A and rejuvenate the squad, which already has young forwards Alexandre Pato, Marco Borriello and Alberto Paloschi.
Bendtner's agent Nicola Juric is expected in Italy over the next few days, but the Rossoneri face competition from Roma for the Dane.
The Corriere dello Sport maintains that the deal with the Giallorossi is already done, but Bendtner's father denied the report.
"It is not something we have heard a sound about. Not at all."
Milan are turning towards Bendtner as a cheaper option, although they remain interested in a £15m swoop for Ronaldinho.
“We are awaiting concrete offers,†said Barcelona director Txiki Begiristain. “I understand that, as there aren't many clubs who can afford such an expense.â€
