Does anybody know the disciplinary situation for this game? Who's available who's not? Hopefully Nesta makes his return.

I would go with this lineup:

Abbiati
Zambrotta Nesta Bonera JAntonini
Gattuso Seedorf Ambrosini
Ronaldinho
Shevchenko Inzaghi

Hopefully Seedorf recovers from injury. I would rest Kaka for at least a half for the game on Napoli. Inzaghi is scoring goals again so I'd like to see him get a start. All-italian back 4 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Also Gattuso seems to be having some problems...

So if, hypothetically, Gattuso, Seedorf and Flamini were unavailable, does that mean we will finally see Cardacio get a start? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

He would just as well play Paolo as another 'defensive midfielder' in the midfield 3 before that happens, and he won't field Cardacio either, we can forget about it happening anytime soon unless it's a useless friendly

I actually expect there to be a decent amount of turnover for this game.

We know Janku's out on yellow card accumulation. Rino had an icepack on his knee when Galliani visited the dressing room after today's game so he may be out too. I also expect Il Capitano to be rested and possibly one of the Brazilians AMs.

Siena are a good side but they're in 12th place right now and I suspect team selection for this game will be made with an eye toward the Sunday game, which is against Napoli.

My line-up would be:
Abbiati
Zambrotta-Nesta-Bonera-Antonini
Emerson-Seedorf-Ambrosini
Kaka'
Pato-Boriello

Flamini and Gattuso are out and. Maybe we'd see Cardaccio towards the end of this game.

One thing about Siena, they're not like Atalanta or Cagliari. They will commit people forward which will leave spaces for Kaka' and Pato to exploit. As much as I'd like Kaka to sit out, I wouldn't want our Kaka (on-form) to be benched just yet.

Here is Dr. Manara's report on the various injuries:
(translation and typos from acmilan.com's english page)

QUOTE
MILANELLO - This is the summary on the conditions of the injured players, made today through Milan Channel by the club's doctor, Massimo Manara, at the end of the morning session:

MATHIEU FLAMINI: "The player present himself with a muscle problem to his left thigh. We believe it's a knock, but he will still have to rest for two or three days."

RINO GATTUSO: "He had another small trauma to his right knee, which has been giving him troubl this year. In any case, the athlete should be available of the team already from tomorrow."

RONALDINHO: "He had a bruise to his right kneecap. Today he underwent some tests, in the afternoon he will do a radiography. I think that even he will need a couple of days rest."

PHILIPPE SENDEROS AND KAKHA KALADZE: "They're resuming the work with the team, therefore I think that they will have a 'typical' week to be ready for Sunday."

ALESSANDRO NESTA: "He rested for a couple of days because he felt some pain again and underwent some specific therapies. I think that from Wednesday he can resume the work with the team."

CLARENCE SEEDORF: "Even today he underwent some therapy for this problem to his right hip. He will undergo a radiography today. I think that he will be available already from tomorrow, but we shall see how he presents himself tomorrow before training."

ANDREA PIRLO: "He took a resonance test due to the muscle lesion from September. The times are more or less the predicted ones."

Note: Senderos and Kaladze did specific traning with the ball today. They didn't follow the full practice with the team.

Personally I would like to see Kaka rested for this one, we have a tough one against Napoli on Sunday and Kaka being 100% for that one imo is more important. So I would go for something like this

Zambro--Bonera--Maldini--Antonini
Ambro--Seedorf--Puma
Pato
Sheva--Boriello

It will be sort of a 4-3-3/4-3-1-2 type setup. Pato and Sheva can both drop deep and play in that whole, I've seen Sheva do it countless times for Ukraine and I'm pretty sure Pato won't have any problem playing in that position. And Sheva and Pato can also drift wide and play off of Boriello. I think this will be more then enough for Siena and will allow us to rest some players for Sunday.

Rino and Dinho shouldn't play so close to recovering from injuries, no matter how minor they were, no use making any further damage when we have so many options for the attack and midfield

Puma's a definite starter for me. He's really like R80, coming back onto the zone of awesomeness.

Pato and Sheva to start for me. I don't know if Borri should be played all 90 minutes all 3 matches, since he's also had an injury. I think Kaka will start this one. And maybe later Seedorf shall push up into the treqqie role, while someone else fills in at the centre. THough I think this match won't be an easy one. Kaka already said, that we're trying out new things in matches, to lose some of that predictability, and it's quite likely that a lot of such moves might not work out. In which case the match won't be put to bed so easily.

Well in the simplest of ways it is basically 3 strikers, but you have to look at the work rate those front 3 put in and imo Pato, Boriello, Sheva will track back a lot more the Kaka, Dinho, Boriello. I know Kaka and Dinho are essentially midfielders but both aren't known for tracking back and doing the dirty work. I've seen Pato really going in for the ball in midfield this season and winning it something I've only seen Kaka and Dinho do in the Inter game only.

I think these things should be looked at from all the perspectives rather then just saying oh it's 3 strikers it's too attacking bla bla bla, Kaka and Dinho will give more balanced since they are midfielders. But unfortunately as you pointed out Carlo will only look at it from it's 2D view (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Yeah good call amancik. I think Siena will throw bodies forward, and kaka and pato are the two paciest players and best for counters. While Dinho and Inzaghi are on form, both are better possession players that see a lot of the ball, although Inzaghi is good at beating the trap.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/panicsmiley2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/panicsmiley2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/panicsmiley2.gif) WE HAVE NO CENTERBACKS!

Ahem.

Here's Carletto's pregame press conference (expanded highlights version. my translation).

THE GAME WITH SIENA
We can play better and we'll demonstrate that tomorrow. Tomorrow we'll evaulate the condition of Gattuso, Seedorf and Ronaldinho. Maldini? We'll see if he recuperates. Tiredness? The team's fine. What do I expect from Siena? An offensive game with a lot of action from the wingbacks and the trequartista, it'll be an open game.

SHEVCHENKO'S CONDITION
Sheva's working very well and is finding his condition. He's not doing badly, but he's still lacking a bit of reactivity (?reflex?).

THE CHAMPIONSHIP
The championship is open, Napoli and Udinese can stay in the lead for a long time.

GILARDINO'S SUSPENSION
From a personal point of view I don't agree with the suspension, but if that's the rule then it must be respected. I don't think it was a deliberate hand ball.

AN IMPORTANT WEEK
Bergamo could be the start of something big, with a victory against Siena we've got a good opportunity to go first, depending on how Inter, Udinese and Napoli play.

BORRIELLO
Borriello is an important player with characteristics we've never had. If he feels well, he plays, even two games in a row - why not? In any case even 30 minutes can be fundamental for a striker. Marco's grown as a player, he's changed his confidence and his faith in his own abilities.

THE SCUDETTO:
The scudetto is a great objective, a motivation for doing well. I think Milan might win the scudetto. Inter? More or less it seems to be the same strength as last year. Mourinho is a great trainer, my opinion on him hasn't changed.

POSSIBLE NEW ARRIVALS?
From Thursday, Nesta, Kaladze and Senderos should be available, for us they're important players.

RONALDINHO'S LATE NIGHTS
Ronaldinho was out until very late? And that he got home at 4am? He had permission to be out til 5, so he didn't have too much fun. It was Sunday night, he could do what he wanted. (Fishdoll note: huge scandal in the media that Ronaldinho and Adriano were both out until the wee hours - not necessarily together - Sunday. Adriano was apparently not called up because of it even though he wasn't late for training etc).

Which is really not that bad, considering the opposition ...

On a side note, it is great that Bonera has solidified his performance for Milan. He is becoming more consistent a solid presence in the back line.

Milan will play with two strikers for this one, with Kaka' in support

Kaka is a bit tired, but Ronaldinho is injured I think, so as much as I want to have Kaka fresh for Napoli game, we don't really have other options. Hopefully we'll secure the game in the first half and Kaka can come off early in the second half.

Not sure who is gonna play in the middle for us, but this is as far as I know:

Abbiati
Zambrotta Bonera Favalli Antonini
Emerson ...??... Ambrosini
Kaka
Borriello Inzaghi

But I think the better thing to do would be to start Pato and Inzaghi and sub Inzaghi for Borriello in the second half.

I think it will be Pato-Boriello and then change Inzaghi>>>Boriello

Abbiati
Zambrotta Bonera Favalli Antonini
Gattuso Seedorf Ambrosini
Kaka
Pato Inzaghi

Like to see Pato get a start, although I don't mind if Sheva starts instead.

Considering Carlo's speech I think we'll see either
------------Abbiati
----Zambrotta Bonera Maldini Antonini
------Gattuso Seedorf Ambrosini
---------------Kaka
-----------Pato Borriello

Or

------------Abbiati
----Zambrotta Bonera Maldini Antonini
------Gattuso Seedorf Ambrosini
---------------Kaka
----------Borriello-Sheva

I'm really waiting for Senderos and the remaining of our defenders to be fit...Maybe if Senderos doesn't play till January, we'll sign him permanently..

Emerson ...??... Ambrosini
Kaka
Borriello Inzaghi

It's sad we can't even dare to think of Cardacio and Darmian being considered by Carlo for a starting spot... so sad. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

Why are they in this team, seriously??

Here's the projected lineup from both Mediaset and Gazzetta (they agree):
Milan (4-3-1-2): Abbiati; Antonini, Bonera, Maldini, Zambrotta; Gattuso, Seedorf, Ambrosini; Kakà; Pato, Inzaghi

Would really like to see a Pato-Sheva upfront. They played well against Zurich in the home match of the UEFA cup and I think if given time they could really form a good partnership.

Pippo should e used as an emergency backup plan imo. Put him on with 20 minutes to go if we still need a goal and let him steal it at the death, that's a classic Pippo appearance.

Not everyone can play with Pippo. I believe there's no striker better than Sheva to be a partner of Pippo.

Personally would have preferred Sheva to either Pippo or Kaka, Kaka to get the rest, or for Pippo because I want to see Sheva and Pato playing next to eachother again to see what they can do

Thanks for the update, forgot what you wrote exactly in the post so must have assumed they were going to show it live

btw, Favalli in the middle scares the cr@p out of me, really wish that Carlo would trust Darmian there, because imo, he has a lot more to offer then Favalli ever would

As if they haven't already? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Rivaldo may not like me for saying this, but in my opinion, Carlo's an awesome tactician, but not so good a man manager. In fact, so terrible in selecting squads, it's almost his worst quality.

I don't see it as a lack in tactical or man management qualities, we're talking about common sense that even a 4 year old is able to get, but Carlo apperantly does not.

Why play Antonini on the left when he has a weaker right foot then Rivaldo had in his day? Zambro I can understand going out to the left in case of emergencies, but why would he delibarately make them switch sides when he knows one of them is really weak with his right foot. Sometimes I just cannot understand this man

It comes down to man management too a bit, he selects squads just to try and keep people happy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) And makes stupid decisions when it comes to starting line ups more often than not. Not just today with Zamborghini and Antonini, but so many times before.

Puma with another great challenge there

I get it. It's because of all the news of David Beckham and his arrival in Milan. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Maybe Emerson thinking now's the time to cement his place? Now or never kind of thingy? Who likes competition, anyway! It's got to be this.

Gosh. Are we seeing something approaching his Leverkusen form?

I think that pushing it a bit too far Tennie (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

btw, Antonini just hit the post with a header from a Seedorf corner

Seedorf really is whipping in those corners with purpose today, I'm used to him wasting them, it's a nice change

20 quiet minutes from us, thus far. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Nothing resembling a concrete or convincing attack/play, though some good passes strung together as I write this. Come on, lads!

Boriello or Sheva need to come on for Pippo in the second half we need something different up there, Pippo is about to break his own offside record
