Of course Cantona is an arrogant pr!ck. He's French.

But he was also one hell of a good footballer.

He was/is the ONLY United player that I really liked !! He is the best player to ever set foot in the EPL, no one likes him cuz he was on top of the world (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I was at a game, once, I was a kid .. the crowd were screaming : "Oh ah Catona .. say Ohh ah Cantona .." and that chant stayed with me in my head for sometime, cuz the football he played was absolutely spectacular (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif)

You forgot Beckham! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I don't think he was the best, which is why we chanted "Who needs Cantona when we've got Paul McGrath!" (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

(IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/puke.gif) Beckham was only ever the 4th best midfielder at MU when he was playing there. He's good - and I've been happily surprised by his recent form - but Giggs, Scholes, and Keane were (and, in the cases of Giggs and Scholes, ARE) still better.

R7 said Cantona was the only player he really liked, I didn't mean to put accross that he was good, just that he should like him. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

But I agree that Beckham was definetly not as effective as Scholes or Giggs going forward and Keane was the better defensive player of the 4.

Just because he is a big celebrity and talks funny doesn't mean he is not a great player.

The majority of people hate him because he's English.

I quite like it that the EPL is hated so much, along with the NT. It's all just jealousy. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Winning ISN'T everything.

We've got some of the best players in the World. Regularly reaching the last 8 of tournements, some teams would kill for that. Who's CONSISTANTLY better than us?

Germany? (Euro 2000, 20004)
Italy? (Euro 2004)
France? (World Cup 2002)
Holland? (World CUp 2002)
Portugal? (World Cup 2002)
Argentina? (World Cup 2002)

Brazil are about the only team who consistantly do better than us, as for the others, they fail as much, if not worse than us. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Consistantly? England NT is consistantly good in failing almost every time.

You forgot about euro 2000 where they failed and WC 1994 in which England didn't played at all. These teams you mentioned maybe fail once in a while to reach final stages of some competition, but unlike England, they compensate they fans by winning tournaments. To compare England NT with teams like Germany, Italy, Argentina and France is a joke.

Enland Euro record:

1960 - Did not enter
1964 - Did not qualify
1968 - Third place
1972 - Did not qualify - Quarter-finals
1976 - Did not qualify
1980 - Round 1
1984 - Did not qualify
1988 - Round 1
1992 - Round 1
1996 - Semi-Finals
2000 - Round 1
2004 - Quarter-Finals

If you want to go back in time then whatever.

Argentina's World Cup record in the last 5 or so tournements has been awful (Maradonna IS Argentina).

When a team can beat us in 90 minutes instead of fluking their way through penalties, fair enough, until then it's down to luck.

A team changes every 8 years or so, so comparing this England team to the ones that have failed is stupid. The teams I mentioned in my last post have all failed in the recent competition, in the last 2 or 3. Maybe not this World Cup, but neither did we. In Euro 2004 the Germans failed, again, as did the majority of teams at the World Cup in Korea.

You seem to consider France a great team? Yes the've made 2 World Cup Finals recently, great for them. What happened in 2002, what about 94 and 90? In fact. in 62, 66, 70, 74 and 78 they failed to make it past the first stage or didn't qualify.

Same in the Euro's. They may have won one recently, but in 64, 88, 72, 76, 80 and 88 they failed to qualify to go with their not getting past the first round in 92.
When you're going to say a team regularly 'fails' put France at the front in line. England have 'failed' 2 or 3 times in the last tewnty years. France have failed a hell of alot more.

I wasn't going back that much but again if you want to look to the entire history: England failed in every Euro until 1996, missed 1974,1978,1994 World Cups also and made it to the Semi finals only TWO TIMES in the history. Take all the euros and world cups ever and you have 3 Semi finals and only 1 win, forty years ago.

Again, every team fails sometimes but some teams actually win competitions also. France won won two euros in 1984 and in 2000, Was in two wc recently and also did great there in the 80th. France = 5 wc semi finals > England = 2. Argentina made it to the 4 wc finals (two without Diego) and won it twice plus won Coppa America something like 13-14 times (more than Brazil).

Euro 2000 happened recently, WC 2002 they lost without a panalties. And the fact that they can't take penalties doesn't make it less of a failure.

Well, at least the English NT are consistant in loosing big games...
Remember the Euro Semi Final 1996 (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ?
The only Tournament England ever won was the WC in 1966. Other teams were much more succesfull, in the past and now.
Germany, for example (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) , made it to the WC Final in 2003 (OK, I still don't know how that happened) and to the semi finals in the WC last year. Our last Euros were....well crap, that's correct. But if I see our team playing now I'm certain we're favourites for the next title.
