Disgusting game

Players all not there

Pioli with terrible decisions all round.

We've been skating on neutral for a while now. Haven't put in a good performance since the Napoli game if we're being honest. This is finally a deserved result

Pioli needs to really look at his tactics because the way we're shaping up is the problem. Today the players were switched off. But the general kamikaze play has been with us for a while now. I don't like how the midfield is everywhere but in actual midfield, I don't like how Theo is so tucked in all the time, I don't understand how Messias keeps starting games, I don't understand why Pobega keeps starting games. Vranckx and Adli have barely gotten a sniff while Pobega keeps starting games is criminal.

Our unbeaten away record for nearly a year is thrown away like this. Shameful

Even players who were can usually rely on with our eye closed like Theo let us down today

Pioli's changes are still baffling to me. Because I know for a fact that this team can claw anything back, we've seen it enough times now. But the changes handicapped us more than anything else.

Why was Kalulu taken off and Gabbia left on? We needed the speed at CB to push up more.
Why was Messias left on? He scored the goal but f@cked up more plays to more than make up for that
Why was Pobega left on? The midfield was our biggest issue and he was the main reason, and when Benna came on he took off Tonali FFS!
Why did we put in Giroud so late?
Why was CDK brought on for a hot Brahim who could have had 2 assists if it wasn't for Leao's f@ck ups
And lastly, why take off Leao????

He's the only player capable of taking the game to the opposition. Rebic for all his harrying is not going to beat 2 or 3 players to score. Leao missed 2 golden chances, but Messias basically ghosted all of the first half but was allowed to stay on. Just do not understand any of it

Pioli really p!ssed me off tonight and it's not usually something I say, because I usually don't question him so much but today he f@cked himself and this team over

We better not screw it up against Salzburg on Wednesday and I hope some of the idiotic decisions today were in view or that game and will actually pay off.

Aside from Pioli's tactics and terrible line-up, what's worrying is that we simply don't know how to link up our passes. We have zero combinations in our game. All our goals result either from pressing the opponent into losing the ball, counter attacks, or some individual performances. But the link-up play is non-existent. If I just think how Napoli play football, in comparison we look like a Serie B team. And I'm being totally realistic.

Also, whenever we're under pressure we completely fumble. We have no Plan B. We simply regress to shambolic performances like tonight, with zero grit, zero ideas and zero motivation.

I think we play best when under pressure actually

Look when we produce actual good performances. Against the big sides. Napoli are playing on another level right now. I said they don't worry me as much as Inter but if they return after the World Cup with this kind of momentum I think they'll take the whole thing

Our problem is not that we cannot link up. We make great quick linkups once we break on teams, that's our style, the midfield we have on there does not allow us to control games, especially when Bennacer is not on the pitch, this becomes impossible. Look at the 2 one-on-ones Leao had. Excellent pressing, excellent, quick plays to get through the opposing defence.

What you cannot do is waste 2 sitters like that against a cagey side like Torino and then put in some shambolic defending on the other side and expect to get the win.

For me, our main issue is the personnel rather than the system. We've lost high quality starting players to injury and it's taking its toll. When was the last time we played well? The Napoli game. When we had all the starters available. Calabria and Maignan are such huge misses I cannot even begin to state how much we miss both. Calabria for all the hate he gets is such a driving force from the back. Same goes for Maignan. So many of the goals we've conceded, in the league especially, since Tata took over have been savable. Tata is just too slow off his feet. And aerially he's a major liability that is making everyone nervous.

This for me is our main issue and we faced the same thing last season round about this time as well when we had those shambolic performances against Sassuolo and Fiorentina. individual players who should not even be part of our team having to start because not only do we lose starters, sometimes we lose their backups as well. And Pioli has not been making things easy on himself because his decisions are crippling us even more at times.

The system for me when it's working well is not the issue, we've shown we can change shape and be dominant. But Pioli is obviously tinkering about with it. All the midfield issues I keep pointing out, for me are partly the reason for why we suddenly cannot defend, after we closed out last season with just 3 goals conceded in I don't know how many games. We suddenly cannot defend. This is because the midfield is all over the place. Theo is not helping out Leao either, he's already isolated out there, and suddenly we're playing Theo in midfield just to have Tonali gallivanting next to the strikers and Pobega everywhere but covering the defense. Just makes no sense.

I'm just rambling at this point! So p!ssed off at Pioli today!!

This shambolic Juve are just 4 points behind us.

Serie A is so sh!t. The gap between the top 8 teams and the rest of the league is just insane. A result like this is a killer.

Only saving grace is that we've played all the top sides bar the Rome clubs. While most of the others haven't played each other yet

I think you misinterpreted my meaning of 'pressure'. I meant teams who completely suffocate you with their pressing, like Torino tonight, Verona, or the first Chelsea leg. We become lost and don't know how to respond. The Napoli game was different. The played more of a waiting game without their usual intensity.

I also disagree with your interpretation of how well we link up. It's always vertically when there are lots of spaces, but under normal circumstances most of the time we are clueless. We simply don't have the same ability that Inter and Napoli have. They can create goals with fluid passing and play build-up. Instead we create goals with pressing and quick transitions. But in a game like tonight, save the first 15 minutes, the way Torino played completely annulled our way of play and made every attack look sterile.

Another huge flaw is the precision of our players. Aside from Bennacer and maybe Tonali, everyone else makes the dumbest of passes or shots at least 3-4 times per game. For example, the stuff from Leao and Rebic tonight was pure horror, in true Halloween spirit.

Let's see if we got the balls to do this.

At least the sh!tty performance of compromise against Torini paid off tonight.

No matter what Pioli said after that game, it was obvious that all of his decisions on Sunday were conditioned by the CL game

Btw, this is what I meant when I said we do well under pressure, no matter how the opponents play. Toro and Verona aren't really pressing teams, neither are Chelsea, we just allowed them to suffocate us because we played badly. When we raise our level we're a top top side, against Chelsea I don't take much note of that game since we were missing 5 starters and 3 direct subs. But in those other games were were just all over the place ourselves which allowed the opposition to look good.

Yes our system is a high press and counter system. But in Serie A it is the reason why we're so successful

What we are seeing in certain games now is the bad decisions taken during the summer to not replace Romagnoli and Kessie. Last season if we wanted to rest one of the mids, we rotated between 3 equally good players, now the massive drop from Tonali/Benna to Pobega is like handicap for us. Especially when Bennacer is the one not on the pitch, because he's the brain in that midfield. Same thing with the defence, Kjaer will need time to get back to 100% and Gabbia is just not at the same level as the others, so the massive drops will be felt.

Salzburg btw are also a very high pressing team which could have resulted in what you're saying but when we're on our game we bulldoze through it

Teams tha play a low block worry me far more

No Portugese teams pls. They're a banana skin. We all saw how we played against them last season...

Bennacer was massive last night. He completely dominated that midfield with such ease. He has the dexterity of a playmaker and the grit of a Gattuso. What a player!

Giroud also with a massive performance. Two goals and two assists. His assist for Krunic was especially spectacular.

Tottenham would be the perfect opponent. Benfica and Porto the next best thing. Madrid, Bayern and City the worst outcome. Although I think we could take on Madrid if we played with the intensity of last night.

I hear you... I just narrowed it down to 2 cuz I figured the odds were already tough as it was hoping for 2 of the entire lot possible.

I'll be honest though, I won't mind getting some revenge over Porto for last year.

Bennacer really is a fantastic player when he's on his game. One of my favourites! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/king.gif)
