I agree with ForzaMaldini, except for that I hate Van Bommel. Thing what bothers me is that we now have a lot DM's earning a lot together, but mostly it's really a shame for Strasser. Maybe we should loan him out now. Now we have signed Van Bommel it makes less sense to renew Ambrosini's contract, though I rather want to keep Ambrosini and see Gattuso leave but his contract is not ending. Even though we have very good DM's, Van Bommel is better than all of them which partly has to do with him being a good passer for a DM.
Van Bommel, Ambrosini, Gattuso, Flamini and Strasser. That are 5 DM's, and all are good enough to start games for us. Strasser needs to play to develop, and the other 4 earn like they should be starters. 3 are very old, and Strasser is the young one and really looking like a future starting DM for us. He should get minutes, if not here, then I guess somewhere else for now.

If this goes trough we have: Ambro, Rino, Pirlo, Boa, Flamini, Strasser, Merkel, Emanuelson, vBommel and Seedorf on midfield. This will cost the development of Strasser and Merkel for us. That's the bad news. The good news is that we have a solution for our current midfield problem. Against Cesena we had NO midfielders on the bench and a central defender had to play on midfield.

But, you did subconciously reminded me: can we all here reach an agreement and keep MvB reserved for the one and only, true MvB, namely Marco van Basten, and call the other guy Marc, Bommel, vB or however (IMG: style_emoticons/default/king.gif) ?

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Jan 25 2011, 12:21 AM) Hm, I don't know what to make of this. Personally, I'd have given faith to Strasser. He's shown he has reached that maturity needed to play at important levels. Signing van Bommel means slamming the door in his face. Besides, the guy is 33 years old. Now we have a midfield overpopulated by ancient people: Gattuso (33), Ambrosini (33), van Bommel (33), Seedorf (34). That looks ugly. Agreed. It saddens me thinking about Strasser might rarely be playing from now on. With Ambrosini and Strasser, but also Flamini and Gattuso, there is no need to sign Van Bommel.

Strasser can be loaned out. He's been lately very good and it would be a pitty to loose him. But I see what Allegri wants with van Bommel. Gattuso and Ambrosini this season partly played awful because Allegri demands from them to deliver in the offensive part as well, more then they ever had to do. Van Bommel on the other hand is more closer to make that happen. For instance, in Bayerns recent victory over Kaiserslautern he made a brilliant pass forward and delivered more or less a constant quality to the attack and defense. This is why this buy IMO is a tactical asset for Allegris vision of Milan.
Aside from that, I still believe van Bommel would be the one contribute in matches against hard opposition, rather then the green boys - Merkel and Strasser. Remember Kaka - he instantly promoted himself into a star, gaining Ancelottis faith not only against the likes of Siena, Ascoli or Perugia, but also against strong opposition. Same did Pato, to a lesser degree. Merkel and Strasser were yet tested against a inferior and much weaker opponent. We should not be fooled to make a rash and imprudent judgment.
As for Ambrosini and Gattuso, I have my own logic, which I assume won't be very popular. I see them as team captains, and while both could be well past their prime, I believe it is instrumental to start one of the two always (when avaible) and against any opposition. They still can make a difference, and they still make their job on a high level.

Odd comparison you're doing there. Merkel and Strasser are lights away from Kaka' and Pato in terms of talent. Both Ambro and Rino have lots to give this team. We all saw what Ambro can do last season. And this season Rino has been immense. Remember we are keeping all our contract renewals for later this season. I'm sure Rino and Ambro have reached that stage where they're no longer playing for the money. If they renew it will be for maybe a million per season, or else they'll quit to play in the Middle East or something for some more money. I don't want Van Bommel. I'd rather we spent 18 million and got Nuri Sahin. He's a Turk so he's probably a bit odd, but at least he's young and gifted. Van Bommel is a cynical player. A genetic freak from the Dutch school. Seedorf is from Surinam and he's more of a Dutch footballer than Bommel. @acid: I swear you call Van Bommel by the holy initials again and I will personally shitkick you to the Allianz Arena. QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Jan 25 2011, 10:57 AM) Both Ambro and Rino have lots to give this team. We all saw what Ambro can do last season. And this season Rino has been immense. Yeah, but will they last till the end of season? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Ambro barely lasted 75 minutes in our last match. Both Rino and Ambro when fresh at the start of the year have lots to offer, but injuries, dip in form and most of all fatigue kicks in towards the business end of the season. It is for times like these that B&G are looking to reinforce. I personally love the January transfer market, smooth shopping, baby! QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Jan 25 2011, 10:57 AM) I'd rather we spent 18 million and got Nuri Sahin. There is a marked difference between 18 million and the 0.5-1 million we are paying for Senior Bommel. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Point being that this is a very short term solution, a safety patch for the next six months, or at most one-and-a-half years. Agreed on Nuri Sahin, though. It's about time Milan looked towards the top crop of Asia and Africa. Young, talented players from there don't cost an arm and a leg. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I said MVB for the big ego dude that is incoming. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Van Basten will always be the original MvB. The way the initials are meant to be written. But you and Fillipo are right, let's leave these for the original legend. PS. Allianz Arena, mmm. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) Nothing like it!
